This is really a collectible. Because it actually represents something, has a story, has a coolness/nerdy factor undoubtedly attached to it. This is the kind of watch worth collecting.
I think my favourite part is the fact the stars in the background are the actual constellation, rather than just a bunch of random glowing dots. Have you seen the new case back? It's got the Apollo eagle :)
The displacement of the stars would have been nicer with a high beat movement ( at least 28800 vph ). Totally unrealistic but imagine the effect with a Seiko Spring Drive in it !
Could be kitsch, but no, it treads that fine line between mad, and classy. Yeah it looks fab. The lovely blue, and the strap. Damn, I really quite want one.
Can't do it Jody! The Speedmaster is next on the list! We love car racing (F1), astronomy, we visit NASA every chance we get, we've watched way too many shows celebrating the 50th of the moon landing... Let's stop pretending we can replace or live without this iconic watch! We simply can't!
Glad you covered this. I usually pass on xerics style cues, this one got me though, I wish I had some money to buy one. The size would be a major concern though. In this instance I would actually go for the quartz, the sweep of the planets would be missed but it's thinner and I think the back plate is really unique.

I've just bought the red dwarf edition of this watch. And I think the glow in the dark features are as amazing as any other watch I've seen on this planet 😅 the design is out of this world too.

It's kinda neat! I share the observation about the movement. All the same, it's in that "fun/novelty" watch category for me, and I think everyone should have something like that to wear when ordinary timekeeping isn't really required... a party watch, a watch for club nights or for informal social engagements.

Just a truly spectacular and unique time piece, but yes, over the top and ridiculous. But that’s the only reason for which to buy it. Because it’s a true novelty piece. I love it and the price makes it worth it. 👍
I've two Xerics (Xeriscope & Atlasphere) and another (Halograph 2 Bronze) on the way. They serve a part of the market that like unique visual presentation. I stayed away from this one because I find the two planets for hour and minutes rather more difficult to quickly check the time. One of the most attractive things about the trappist is that it is a pretty reasonable price.
I'm just waiting for a smaller version and I'm gonna get one. They said they've been considering it. I hope they do. There's class and elegance in smaller-small watches.
It's very clever. It's interesting and seemingly well-built. It is also something that could have come out of a kiddies lucky bag. Very, very occasionally I want something just a bit quirky on my wrist but this looks like a flying saucer - miniaturised. Way too big and "out there" for me but doubtless a talking point, if only briefly. Thanks for the review.
I’d buy the ladies version if they made one. Just too damn big for my 6-1/2” wrist. As cool and beautiful as it is, I’ll have to pass due to the size. And NASA would NEVER approve that watch for a mission, lunar or otherwise. 😒
dragonswordstriker I can pull off some larger watches but for me the critical dimension is lug to lug, not necessarily diameter. I can easily and comfortably wear a Seiko Samurai. But that’s about my upper limit. But with the 54mm lug to lug on this one, and 18mm thickness, that’s just well beyond my comfort zone. I actually think women are better equipped to be able to pull off an oversized watch because women’s fashion accessories include bracelets that come in a vast array of shapes and sizes so you ladies have a bit more latitude than some of us gents.

@@augustinf hey man, I've looked again at your comments and I feel I have to defend myself here, I'm just a working man, I can't afford to buy high end watches, so I tend to buy vostock, vintage timex and seiko because as a minimum wage working guy that's all I can afford, high end omegas and rolexs are beyond my price range but I still enjoy collecting pieces I can afford and enjoy, if my lottery numbers ever come up then hell yeah, I'm getting a navitimer, a seadweller and a patek, but hell that's unlikely to happen 🙄😂

Nice to see a company doing unusual designs and pulling it off very well in my opinion, if I had spare funds available at the moment I’d love to add one to my collection, my Dad would have loved it.
One thing I want to clarify is the water resistance, Xeric on the kickstarter comments said that this watch can get slightly wet if you get caught out in the rain or if you are washing your hands, but they do not recommend submerging the watch or doing any water sports with it.
I backed it (the quartz version since Ill probably never really wear it, I just like it) but it didnt give any options for which version I wanted? Will they go over that on August 9th when they officially put the orders in?

I'm a lady with a 5.65 inch wrist and I'm nabbing one haha. Sadly had to get used to wearing saucers on my wrist over the years to enjoy cool designs.

opted in for the Meteorite Blue Supernova. It doesn't look like it has the stars in the background, it looks more subtle and i love it!

My Trappist 1 ISS auto was delayed by 6 months. Just arrived today and it's gone up $113 in value. This is a keeper watch for me though
