    Grazie mille! Your videos are so easy to follow and to date this is the only one I have found that explains time. My husband is Italian but speaks only the dialect from his village as he was very small when his family came to Canada. Now that I have a few months of learning I am helping him with his Italian and of course this in turn helps me learn. I love, love, love Italy. I am so excited to be going back next spring for an art excursion. It is important to be a respectful and welcome guest and not expecting to be served in English. La lingua italiana e bella. ( hope this is correct, it is from a translation site and they don't always get it right). To speak and be understood in the language, makes one feel so much more immersed in the culture. Watching all of your videos and loving your teaching style.

    What is the right way then to say 8:30 in the evening military time in Italian? Sono le sedici e mezza?

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! You can also say “sono le sedici e trenta” if that’s easier. You’ll still be understood all the same 👍

    In Poland we are using 24 h in timing, for example. 14:25, 19:29, and so on

    • @legaleagle46
      @legaleagle46 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Polish way of telling time is also a bit more complicated than the Italian system, if I remember correctly, especially since case plays a factor in Polish, and you don't just say "It's two o'clock." You actually say "It's the second (or the fourteenth) hour," don't you?

      Here your free lesson : "questos videos" ?? l'italiano non e' (I cannot write letters with the accent !) lo spagnolo, il plurale e' un po' piu' complicato : questi video (video e' invariabile). Mi piacciono molto i tuoi video (non gli) e ho appreso (verbo irregolare) molte.... :)

    Tom, una piccola curiosità da aggiungere al tuo bagaglio cuturale: in Piemonte viene usata l'espressione "la mezza" per riferirsi specificamente alle 12.30 :D

    •  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Non credo sia solo in Piemonte. Piuttosto direi a Tom che è meglio dire, se necessario, le nove di mattina (non della) e assolutamente togliere quelle "d" eufoniche come "ed un", bruttissimo : e un. La "d" va messa, secondo le nuove tendenze (nuove da... 50anni!) il meno possibile per facilitare la pronuncia, cioè quando suona bene la metti, altrimenti no. Questo in generale si riduce a mettere la "d" solo quando la parola che segue inizia per la stessa vocale : "ed eccoci qua", "l'ho invitato ad andare via" ma "e anche", "vado a Urbino"... Ciao :)

    Ciao Tom,volevo chiederti perche in questo video usi il verbo "to tell" mentre nel video di come dire mi piace in italiano usi il verbo "to say"
    -How TO TELL time.
    -How TO SAY i like in italian.
    Comunque sei veramente bravo!!!

    • @xValentinaz
      @xValentinaz 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      diciamo che "to tell" si usa per esprimere, raccontare qualcosa ad una persona
      mentre "to say" è semplicemente "dire"

    pommerigio mattina e sera o notte si usa solo su un appuntamento....perche se ti chiedo l'ora e sono le 9 della mattina non mi puoi dire della mattina perche lo vedo pure io ma lo specifichi solo in casi in cui quello che chiede non sa che tempo e del tipo si e appena svegliato in una stanza buia o e in cantina ecc altrimenti lo capisce gia lui che e mattina o sera ecc
    mentre "ed" non e sbagliato ma si usa piu solo "e" tipo 3 e un quarto 5 e dieci
