I can appreciate this movie now that I’m older, but watching it as an 8 year old was the scariest thing ever. Especially being like “why is she standing on the chair with the rope?”

Oh my god exactly, I was 7 when I watched this. I barely processed anything while watching it and almost traumatized me. Just finding this movie again and realizing the guy was Asperger, as I am, brings a new perspective to me.

same it was so traumatic and depressing, I came into my dads room crying. I swear it was under comedy on Netflix, I watched it in primary school. I feel like the style of animation is misleading in a way, targeted towards kids, idk/

Clank. The story is so beautiful about such an unlikely friendship. BTW, they didn't meet until after Mary was older, if that's a concern. I like how clueless they both were but they. helped each other get over significant obstacles in their lives.. LOVE this film.

I had watched this when it was released through my uncle, who was (and is, if I based off of my observations) a very articulate and sentimental man. He was brave and creative. He loved weird movies with deeper meanings that as I a nine-year old child, I could never comprehend. But as I grew older, I realized it was related to what life is really about. Mary and Max was inexplicably odd back then, but sailing through the sea of life with a boat of loneliness like the both of them...it is more meaningful to me now. I was open for ideas and heroines with greater abilities than their own size, and believing that I can create an impact if not on everyone, but on at least one person. But my uncle doesn't talk to me anymore because of some family issues, but this movie reminded me of how he played the greatest role of shaping my creativity and outlook about life.

I want more films with the message of we should strive to treat people more equally irrespective of age. If you were to play back a tape of any person's life, we've all been or will be all ages. Which is outside of our control. We should be less divided by the misalignment of our timelines. It's already a miracle for any two people that get along well to be alive at the same time. We could have been born at any point in human history.
