Mpetshi’s serve is like death coming to knock on your door. It’s a literal killer.
The service motion is quick, it’s coming 130+ majority of the time, and he can move for a big guy. Tough match up for anybody.
His service is amazing, unfortunately the rest of his game is very far from that level
I could only remember a handful very solid returns from Rune in two tight sets. That is scary as Holger is a pretty savage returner, and so few Winners from Rune too. The new real bad boy of tennis ? That serve is pretty savage!
@@yomismo74 what are you talking about
@@JavierGonzalez-w1o i'm talking about the rest of his game. His forehand IS good but he needs to improve his backhand and his movement.
His serve IS great which should be enough to make him a threat in this type of courts.
This is a very good victory for him but Rune IS far from his best right now
Gotta love these young gen matchups. These guys have heart and fight for every point putting so much intensity into every shot.
Bruh Shelton vs. GMP!!!
That’s a barn burner.
I think Shelton will win, as he has a score to settle with GMP.
Knock knock @@Birdylockso
How sweet at net from Shelton and Fils, hope we get to see that rivalry many times in the years ahead
Perricard has made at least 2 aces in every game, and serves at least 200 km/h, it's just crazy!!
serve bot, boring to watch
Perricard and Shelton are currently the two best servers in tennis on fast indoor courts.
@@Mark-th4sz well at least one of them is entertaining to watch (def not perricard) 😭
@@Teeeeooo dont rage
@@TeeeeoooHe wins that all that matters 🤷🏿♂️
I think Shelton might be the only guy to stand toe to toe with Perricards serve, should be a bomb of a final
After seeing the final , Shelton was just a babe version of Perricards ..Perri's serve was just another level fast and the accuracy was superb!
C'est bien, il continue de progresser Perricard. Quelle année impressionnante!
Absolutely - its going to be impressive to watch him develop further.
Ben Shelton is turning into quite a player. And his much improved backhand means he now has big weapons on both flanks, a phenomenal serve and incredible athleticism. Next stop, Top 10.
Shelton's temper has been his weakness, he is now controlling himself.
As long as his dad is coach no chance against top 5 😂
@@GyemTshering-v4g He is getting there, it is not about skill, he has it. It is about mental.
@@GyemTshering-v4g bro they are probably the one father son duo that work together very well. Coached him to a D1 championship title for Florida, I think they know more about there relationship than you.
quite a player but still not a quiet player 🔇
2:00 the fact that they respected and appreciated each other's shots by those smiles increases the respect I have for them🎉
Les progrès de Perricard sont constants depuis un an, c'est assez rare. Les perfs au plus haut niveau deviennent régulières. Impressionnant.
You guys have actually got it pretty wrong (imo)
Yes Pericard has an awesome 1st serve but in this match against Rune he actually also won lots of return points on the Rune serve.
It’s not boring tennis watching Pericard play.
I find it exciting.
Love the one handed backhand too!
Yeah though because of the fact that there's always gonna be dummies/haters you can already see a lot of "boring serve bot" comments. My advice is to ignore them already. You'll only give them more fuel to hate if you pick at their ego. Giovanni is already (and still progressing in his first ATP year) entertaining with the fact that he moves well for a guy this tall, he goes to the net and hits winners left and right. Haters really are blind. Or are 12 and shouldn't be bothering adults online.
@@jonas8993 Good call Jonas.
ya just NPCs who only want to watch mindless baseline ball bashing complain about "serve bots".
Rune handshake 😂
Can’t blame him though, that must have hurt. He played well all week, but when you play against such a monster serve, lose the first set tiebreak with a double fault and then the opponent gets a break right in the next game by a lucky net cord touch, it really sucks.
nothing wrong with it actually
Nothing wrong with it. Still respectful
@@patrikmarflak6559You pissed? 😂
@@patrikmarflak6559 yeah though I watched the match and he played worse. He had a few occasion, he just didn't dominate like he "should have" during exchanges. Like double fault to give the set, and broke himself in the second
Shelton reached the highest amount of "come on" and "let's go" ever said in a tennis match today
Perricard, might be the greatest server in the making. That last serve, 232km he hit it like nothing.
Mpetshi Perricard Wow💪.
Rune isn't usually that good at breaking serve against most players, so coming up against someone like Perricard was always going to be a tough one.
Rune is one of the best returners of the game. It is a.o. what made him win Paris 2022
@@fwvw7056he couldn’t return this match
@@fwvw7056look at this year's stats. Rune is 47th or 48th among top 50 players in terms of breaking serve percentage. He is in company with Perricard and Griekspoor. His return game was pretty solid, but now it's just shit
@@АндрейШелест-т8в yes it has gone down this year clearly
Great highlights! As someone who didn't know the results, you did a really good job (particularly in the first match), with the highlights. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Phenomenal from all, but particularly Perricard. Monster of a serve and a steel personality on the court, makes for a bright future. In fact, as the older generation departs, the younger and new generations in the men's seem like it will be highly competitive. Stacked with amazing players and match-ups. Looking forward to the current and future battles!
Why are we just getting Mpetshi's highlights today? Please show us how he reached the semi-finals.
Agree
He doesn't get the coverage he rightfully deserves.
They also posted highlights of his QF match
Agree
He served bombs, that’s how :)
Allez Mpetshi!!!
Such great semifinals here. Ben has really improved with the wins he has hand lately.
Arthur is gonna be a real problem next year
Gio..it feels like he came out oc nowhere and is now this top 50 sleeper cell. Exciting!"
It's just really great to see Holger, deep in a tournament and playing REALLY well
Congratulations Perricard, awesome serving,👏❤
Wow, two huge servers up against each other in the final, that’ll be amazing to watch!!!
Big serve, One-handed, calm mental ->> If this man makes it to the top 10, I'll be his fan
The matchup in the final highlights how important a good serve is.
Ben and Fils are treat to watch
Why only 20% time in highlights for rune vs perricard??
probably cause most of the match were aces.
cuz perricard is prob the most boring player to watch. Serve is all he got
Because Perricard’s game is about serving aces or winning the point in 4-5 shots, so there’s not much rallies
I think that match only finished recently so they may edit it to add more later.
@@Teeeeooo exactly, i mean, props to him, he’s a monster serving, but a very boring player to watch
As much as I love Rune , that Mpetshi Played phenomenally ❤
Prettiest serve out there! Going to be nice to see the matchup with these two power servers! I'm going with Ben for the revenge win but I would like to see Gio win his first 500 as well!
I'm picking Ben as well, but Mpetshi has such a flowing style that is hard to dislike.
Bravo Shelton keep it up 🚀
Mpetshi’s has best & dangerous serve on tour.
Que partido. Que torneo el de Basilea. 👍🏻
Giovanni woke up and chose violence, damn!
It seems impossible to touch GMP's massive serve on these hallowed Basel indoor courts. Just ridiculous. How do you return that thing? And then if you somehow get the return in, he sends another rocket through his forehand or backhand, which is basically trying to return another serve in one point. He's winning the title at this rate.
Yeah, his baseline shots are like serves. His returns are weak though, he just seems to block the serve into the court. However, when he get the chance to hit the shot then he makes sure it does not come back to him, if it does, it should be an error from his opponent. This is insane power.
I hope he develops an all round rather than rely just of the serve. He seems ok at the net. He has won some titles already so he has a taste for success.
Excuse me ,haha shapo was handling a lot of his serves, amazingly so,just saying, give credit where do,it was much more enertaining to watch, and shapo took the first set
A lot of these players have faced big servers before; Petchy is nothing new but he does have the prettiest serve out there imo!
@@valr852 Not really, he didn't break serve in a game once. Sure he broke serve in a tiebreak to just squeeze it out, but that was all. And he barely even won it. He couldn't do it enough a second time round in the final set tiebreak. He wasn't close at all to breaking serve to consolidate his own serve during the games. What Shapo did do well though, was serving well to keep up with GMP's serve till the end.
@@BrotherTree1the guy said handling serve, not break serve. He was referring to your quote "impossible to touch GMP's serve".
IMHO what the players should do is step further near the baseline to be able to touch the ball (from the serves) earlier, right after the ball bounce.
This is usually done by Federer when facing serve bots.
I noticed as Rune waited further away from the baseline, he wasn't able to touch the balls especially when served out wide etc
That double fault in first set caused Rune to lose.
hes weak mentally
@@ZyroSugar This time it had nothing to do with being weak! It was all about the serve. When the ball was in play (rarely) Rune won. But he met a monster server....Boring
Would have lost anyway probably even if he made the serve.
Nonsense that is just one point. The set was close. Perricard was just a little better. Rune maybe a bit to defensive today. But the whole season his results are not what they used to be. Right now he can´t fill up the gap with Sinner and Alcaraz.
@@marnix6801 I hope he will play against Sinner in paris. He should win over bublik and arnaldi.
I BELIEVE IN TWO YEARS SINNER AND ALCARAZ WILL FACE GOOD CHALENGES WITH THIS FOUR PLAYERS.
Oh New one handed backhand player🎉🎉🎉
When will they level the playing field for left-handed players by changing the starting side of the serve? The advantage that lefties have in tennis is tremendous!
Lynette Federer in Shelton's box?! Nice to see her following tennis even after Roger's retirement
These matchups were played at lightning paces
Pericard hit hard.. can tell he been practicin' in back yard, cause last 3 match he stretch bankrolls far.. he a star who don't play for par, another hole in one winner on that tar 🌄🌌
Perricard hit 235km/h on a second serve! Insane, never seen such a shot in my entire life!
Within a couple years, it's gonna be a top 5 of Sinner, Alcaraz, Shelton, Fils, GMP for the next decade. These guys are all freaks. May be tough for Sinner and Alcaraz to monopolize Grand Slams with those 3 power hitters all capable of getting hot in any given game. GMP is just a cheat code. Incredibly difficult to break and moves stupidly well for a giant. (Though Shelton's serve is just as big and the dude is the most athletic guy on tour -- annoying as hell, but the talent is off the charts).
tbf shelton is only annoying on court, he seems super friendly off the court (even on the court he has many friendly interactions on court with players as well)
If you serve like that then when are we going to play proper tennis, like rallies?
Perricard: We'll play that when its your serve.
hahah :))))))
Shelly is on his game!👍 Stats show that cap on backwards now loses 75% of Semis or Finals. Thank you Mr. Sinner!
LOL Cold hand shake from Rune at the end! He was humbled by a much stronger player but he just can't accept it yet. Well done Mpetshi Perricard!
It was a normal handshake. I don't know what you think was wrong with it.
Rooting for MPeshi tomorrow!
Perricard is a massive player, if he manages to improve his backhand's consistency, he will easily be a top 20 player for a very long time.
... and to be fair to Perricard: I was at least doubtful that he can beat Shelton - lefty, great serve etc. But kudos to Perricard. He delivered - not only serve but return and with quite a bit of clarity. Good to see this guy climbing -
Ben you're finally the MEN 🙏💪👍👏🏻👏🏻🎾
GP is an amazing player!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Good *warrior guys* !
Giovanni MP has that 90's 'big-boy' game like Sampras, Edberg and Becker. Flat backhand, serve and volley, massive serve. It's ATP's fault for letting this slam-dunk, smash-and-grab type of game die out by slowing down the courts, when we as spectators should be allowed to watch all styles. Personally I think it's great.
Men’s handshakes are the best
Pity for Rune, was playing great this week, but no answer today on those serve bombs. Not a coincidence that Shelton and Perricard are both in the final. As for Shelton, each time I try to like this player, but the incessant screaming is just too much. I think it would take a compilation of Federers entire career to get the amount of screams like that by him as Shelton produces in one match. In hindsight the hanging up the phone gesture Djokovic made last year was glorious, in response. Maybe I am too European to appreciate it, but I'd rather have Sinner doing his business. Good match by Shelton though, favourite for tomorrow.
Maybe, but if I were playing that tiebreak I’d be pumped to the gills. Guess it’s all perspective and preference
And the same way Carlos and Jannik hanging up on Novak is equally as glorious! 🤗
@@sashingopaul3111 it wasn't just the tie break, he screamed like that after a point going up 15-0....and does it every match many times.
@@fwvw7056 you're literally watching *highlights* aka the best part of the match where they are showing the best points which so happens to be where he is literally saving set points omg
Can someone please explain why both Basel and Vienna are broadcast so dark throughout the tournament it's absolutely ridiculous and so off putting, part of the experience is seeing the spectators reaction, after all if it wasn't fro the fans it wouldn't be the same.😮
I was there and Perricards serving was totally out of this world
Perricard....He's still unknown for general fans, but as far as I analyze his play, he has a talent
Perricard and fils holding the torch for the next gen French tennis players.
ugo humbert?
maybe if fils stopped screaming for no reason and focused on his volley there he would’ve won the set lol
Was feeling a bit down today, untill I saw Rune being decimated. Always makes my day
says a lot about you
How Can you not show perricard's ace at 235km/h AT 4/4 in the tiens break??? This IS the most astonishing moment of the match, maybe even of the tournament!!!!
TIE break sorry
Perricard is a servebot🔥🔥🔥
Unfortunately the disappointment with Holger Rune continues
It has for 2 years now
What's disappointing about this result? You people make no sense...
He just lost to a beast server
@@malekat8539It's disappointing given the hype around him. Rune himself once claimed that the next big 3 would be Alcaraz, Sinner, and himself. Losing this match isn't shameful, but he was expected to be a top 3 player competing for grand slam titles, not just making semis of 500 tournaments
@@malekat8539I don’t get it either. First off, he’s 21 and he’s already won some important stuff, so give him time, he has his whole life ahead of him. Second off, when did the semifinals of a tournament become “disappointing”? Why is it that unless you’re winning grand slams and other tournaments left and right, you’re somehow not important in tennis? I just think this sentiment is wrong in so many ways. There are more ways than just the one to have a fulfilling career in tennis.
the giant Perricard is a beast ! ✌️💪
1:42 is that Federers mom!?!?
We know Isner/Raonic/Karlovic/Opelka types can be very tricky. Rune was not at his best by any means by credit to Pericard for keeping showing server kings can still make upsets
With his playing style, Perricard should be able to win Wimbledon someday
Mpetshi is going to be shaking up the tour as his game get more refined.
Some of GMP’s serves were faster than mine in slow motion. He and Shelton might get cricks in their necks from watching aces go by them in the final later today.
Love you Shelton country boy
GMP's serving is too deadly, and with how poor Rune's return stats are, Rune was always going to struggle. It's similar to when he played both Fritz and Nakashima.
Big servers trouble Rune a lot, and he needs to seriously improve his return games if he wants to return to the top 10, especially with the caliber of player he *can* be when he's on form. Hopefully, his coach fixes thay of Rune.
Either than that, hopefully Rune can take this deep run into Paris Masters and continue his performance here, but he has his work cut out for him there.
Ben, if you can control your focus like this at all time, you will only get better and better!!! Congrats on your win for now! Keep going!
I thought Rune would be part of the new top 3, along with Alcaraz and Sinner.
Now, it doesn’t seem so.
What do you think?
Nope he won’t ever be top 3. Maybe shelton in a few years or cobolli
Machac or Draper will be the 3rd player. Rune may take a while to go one level up with his game.
@@pkoppula Draper yes machac nah
Draper, Shelton, Mensik, Fils , GVP, Mahach, Cobolli will make up the top ten. Holger is too unstable but he’s obviously got the game. I question his mental state
Fils shanks a ball
Shelton: *COME ON*
Fils amps up the screaming to distract Ben....Even!
Well, if you get an important hold somewhere, anywhere, no matter how small, you’d be happy too. This is the semis after all, a chance at the title is at stake!
@@Tennisisreallyfun Yeah I know I probably would do the same thing but not a lot of players do so I was just saying

Shelton Sr. For President
Rune looks very passive and slow is he still injured ??
Rune still holds to his childish mindset of being a sore loser there was no reason at all for giving Perricard that cold handshake!
@@jorgebarbosa8014 he was just disappointed. Sometimes he gives good handshakes
Mpetshi is not, himself, into hugging, kissing people, and touching bellies ..what the hell, with that trends..anyway... nothing wrong with just a simple but respectful handshake at the net
Some people are such pussies about handshakes. It was a perfectly polite handshake. Absolutely nothing more is required.
That was an okay handshake tbh.

Tequila shot every time Shelton yell come on
Anyone noticed Federer's parents sitting next to Ben's dad
Mpetshi reminds me of Jo Wilfried Tsonga
MPerricard has people raise eyebrows for sure. It is in the nature of spectators and media to hype up an up and coming player very quickly. Everybody likes to talk about the next big player and the next big superlative in any department.
They bring them down equally fast as the next big news if they can.
So I tend to be a bit more careful on predicting or in fact insisting that he is going to be the next top ten sure thing ...
Perricard seems to punch at the topspin backhand ....but it lands in👍
Rune should have won themat title but alas
Basel tournament has to improve the lightnings ...
Perricard is a baby Karlovic - a very tall player with a monster serve and a weak backhand.
#arthurfils ganará un Grande para 🇨🇵 de nuevo.
🎰
Rune as usual doesn't know what the sportmanship is...
i can never get tired of shelton’s HUGE come ons
If Perricard stays consistent with his serve in the final, he has a pretty good shot against Shelton. Otherwise, Shelton should honestly decimate him as he has a strong serve and Perricard is lukewarm on the return, and also Ben's backhand is solid while Perricard always tries to reposition himself to use the forehand due to his very unreliable & precarious backhand that currently is good only for keeping the ball in play.
The problem is that, Perricard serve is considerably better, and neither of them has good ROS. You can rewatch their Queens clash earlier this year to see that dynamic.
RIP Tennis balls 😢
Rune Perricard was technically better than the final shelton perricard match. Perricard is a revelation. Amazing serve beautiful single handed backhand bullet like forehand and no moaning no groaning. Good tennis.🎉
