interesting to hear the engine speed up as the traction earth fault is triggered by the flashover, cutting off the power system and causing the engine to momentarily speed up.
As Formidable said, The power increases to the point of the motor flashing over or taking to much power all the electrical action stops but the powerunit carries on for a split second after without load then shuts down.
did not know hornby made all the trains untill the class 66 i wish they would start making them again as the real trains are borring and plastic and got no sole
@@MarkSimpson50 indeed they are nothing beats the sound of a class 50 when these old girls are in good condition and operational health though I don't know much about them I guess they were prone to traction motor flashover and main generator flashover if too much power was applied to quickly
A guest driver was driving not one of our trusted ones they pushed 26 too hard under heavy load and on a tight corner when she only had 4 traction motors thanks to that and a multitude of other things it caused a flashover
The Traction motor failed or as you can see flashed over, note the flash under the loco.
I saw her again today at the same place on the KWVR, and thankfully, she did not suffer one this time
Great capture of this unfortunate failure. I was just a bit further up the hill, and all I saw was some smoke, not the sparks!

Also had prolems with 50015 when it kept loseing power at the 2010 gala top machines
Bang goes a traction motor!
luckily General Veers didn't spot it he's always targeting the main generator!
Because when it happens, it 'unloads' the engine.
Lucky it didnt take the main generator with it.
Wow! Once in a lifetime shot there! Glad the old girl got sorted.
Great video, I was lucky enough to see her trip up to Oxenhope before the incident/failure..

Excellent video.
What was that sudden rev up for?
Must have been a hell of a draw on that to load up an engine like that how it did! Impressive footage, well caught.
Traction motors ?
Oh bugger still sounded sweet though
I saw 50049 do that once.
I would guess there must be some sort of warranty claim on the way with that bad motor!

Wauw that engine sounds awesome.
Thanks they are an awsome machine when working properly.

Wicked vid great thrash
cant a locomotive still run with one traction motor cut out?
you can get a wheelslip fault with motors failing. meaning only notch 1 on the accelerator. notch 1 is quite weak
Yes the problem was that 26 already had 2 out at the time luckily there was a spare and it was back the day after
Is that what happened to 40145?
why did she fail?

A flash from 50 026's battery packs
This had nothing to do with the batteries
They should've got out and pushed lol.
😆 yeah my dad is the owner of 26 and he was sat in the coach behind the loco luckily the guard was nearby and knew him and allowed him out
Ttte character be like:
Noo,no pls oh ffs
Enjoyed the video, apart from the idiots hanging out of the windows, forgot what it was like in the day,
