  • If your acrylic paintings are looking too rough when you try to blend, try this tool to keep everything smooth! This tool will help keep your acrylic paints wet longer so that you have time to blend like you would in oil paints! I'm showing you this tool in action to blend clouds in wet over dry vs drybrushing and again in a more advanced raccoon painting!

I have recently learned the fine mist water technique when painting northern lights, but I’m happy you’ve helped me to appreciate that it can be used in so many other acrylic applications. I started painting in my 60’s and turned 70 yesterday. Videos like yours are giving me more and more confidence to press forward. I’m enjoying it so much more now that I’m seeing some advancements with each painting. Never too old to learn more and more!!!

I use an antique perfume atomizer using Only distilled water. Don't want minerals from drinking water or tap water messing up the tip. This works great as the water comes out like fog, no droplets at all. I use a 1 ounce misting bottle if I want a heavier spray or if it I need to wet my watercolor paint pans.
The mist bottle does not have an adjustable nozzle as I have forgotten to adjust other ones back to a mist and... oh sh...oot. lol
As always, thank you for posting. Love your work!

I prefer oils……BUT, you also need ( for your health’s sake) good ventilation. Winter time makes it more difficult because you can’t crank open windows. Acrylics-winter, oils-summer.

I use pure lavender for layer one. Walnut oil for other layers.. Turpenoid natural for brush cleaning and a tiny bit for paint thinner.
Non- poisonous . Might need slight ventilation . The lavender very strong odor but NOT. Toxic to breathe or on skin.

Actually acrylics need some ventilation too, there's offgassingbthats harder to smell but can still affect us

    • @TTundragrizzly
      @TTundragrizzly 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@danielleo6855 mostly to those that have allergies.
Some acrylic paints have heavy metals so getting on skin can be hazardous.
But some acrylic brands have removed all heavy metals from their products.
With a little research, someone using acrylics over oil is far less likely to be toxic enough to cause any damage.
But if you think about it… almost anything in life now can cause some sort of harm…
All cleaning sprays, some deodorants, etc.
The point is, it’s nearly impossible to completely avoid it…
So artists might as well enjoy acrylics indoors and not stress about it…

I am so impressed with this work. Thank you for showing it is possible to get acrylic to look like oil. I have some old acrylic that I wasn't sure I wanted to use and had preferred to get oil but you helped me change mind.

There are some really really good ideas here, thank you! I enjoy acrylics but you do need to use water to control the texture, and getting the amount right is tricky. This misting idea is excellent.

Oh going to try this! Have gone from acrylics to oil (because of the smoooothness) but now I have a lot of acrylics just laying around. Thank you!!

Wow I love this video, in all of my years painting I have never known this tip. I have always tried blending with wet paints in general, that is a great idea. First time I have seen one of your videos and I love the humor and editing style!

So interesting, never heard about this. Easily the most interesting video over the last year :) I do more acrylics on miniatures than canvas and now wonder if this technique could be transferred to that hobby. Never seen any of the best painters use it but looks like it should be possible. Just need a fine mist spray and I guess some small make up brushes for the smoothing.
