Not sure if this helps anyone, but I'm not as savvy as this young man, but wanted to use my smart phone with the 2005 stereo. I bought a transmitter on Amazon for about $25 US. It works through the radio frequencies and it plugs into the cigarette lighter outlet. It's not perfect but it works for me to get phone calls through the speakers and I can listen to my podcasts and music from my phone just fine. The sound isn't super high quality (if that's a thing for you) but for an inexpensive way to do this, here you go.
UPDATE: After a day trip to from London to Brighton and back, the Bluetooth stopped working. After going back to check on it again, I found that the connector which goes into the factory stereo was slightly out of place. I put it back with some blu tack around so that it doesn’t move around. My advice is to put some blu tack around the connector so that it doesn’t move around.
I have a 2009 V50 have attempted to add bluetooth 4 times. Each one resulted in the bluetooth stop working within a few days. We can't find out what the issue is. This comment may work for me.
I hope it helps What I did was keep everything plugged in, removed the stereo and wiggled it until it worked. When I found the angle it worked at, I just stuck a load of blu tack around so that it wouldn’t move about. Hot glue might work but the surround of the connector is made of plastic so I wouldn’t recommend unless the blu tack doesn’t work Hope this helps
Hi mate, does it work on my volvo, because my car doesn’t have the aux mode. Im worried if i plug the bluetooth module i will not be able to turn it on bc of the aux. And i dont really think the aux is at some other place than the hand stand…
Hi mate. Unfortunately, yes, that would make this solution not achievable because your car radio has different connections on the back. What you could do instead is get an android screen, which can add bluetooth, aux and give your car a more modern look. Here is the link for the screen: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314566818009
@c2fixit I just checked it and there is no aux unfortunately, and to put a head unit instead there is the old sat nav on the way which will make the job complicated there 😔
@nerazourilasquadra4216 for the head unit, the screen install doesn’t make the job any more difficult, it’s the same Only issue is that the original radio will no longer work, but you can use the radio on the screen with a radio antenna
Better to get the screen then which goes on the top Here is a link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314566818009?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vkcosyhktgw&sssrc=2051273&ssuid=vkcosyhktgw&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Hi, thanks for your videos. I just acquired a Volvo XC90 58 Plate. I wanted to purchase the Android Head Unit from your link but do I still need to install the Bluetooth as well before the Android Head Unit will work?
From the best of my knowledge, I know that it is called a Volvo XC90 Bluetooth adapter. If you search on eBay, you will find it. I don’t know if they make other versions of it
Great video, works great for music. The only issue I have found is that there does not appear to be a microphone for the phone, do you know if the aux cable can be used for a microphone for the phone? Or is there another option? Thanks for your great work, I would not have known about this device without this video.
Hi Doug. Thanks for all your praise. Unfortunately, I have the same problem. When I am listening to Bluetooth and someone calls, I can answer it but the other person cannot hear me. Unfortunately, I don’t know if the aux cable can be used as a microphone. If you try it, please let me know.
This is how to do it for iPhone: Step 1: Go to settings, then bluetooth, then turn on Bluetooth. Step 2: Connect to the Bluetooth adapter normally by setting the radio to aux and looking on your phone for new connections and tapping the adapter. Step 3: Once connected, press on the circled i next to the name Step 4: Press on name. Step 5: Change the name to whatever you wish. In my phone, I have it saved as Volvo XC90 Bluetooth Hope this helps

You can install the one which is for models without aux in Here is the link: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314566818009?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vkcosyhktgw&sssrc=2051273&ssuid=vkcosyhktgw&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
This is the complete opposite of the YT tutorial of a guy filming his steering wheel and just saying: "Oh yeah, I just installed a bleatooth thing, yeah, so I turned two screws and put it in the radio, so yeah guys that's it, like and subscribe if it helped you" And it's like a minute and 30 seconds long

Just fitted one to my xc90, works a treat, really impressed.
a tip is to remove the negative first and then you can have the key in every position you want:)
Thank you for that tip

That was a very good video, well explained and easy to follow.
Thanks mate
Hopefully you can buy one and do it yourself on your car.

Hi I have vovlvo xc90 2006 diesel will this bluetooth adapter work?
It depends, do you have the aux input
@c2fixit I will check it ,is that because you have to plug the aux cable from the stereo or because with aux it has diffrent connections ?thanks
@nerazourilasquadra4216 it’s because with aux, it has different connections
The connector at the back of the radio needs to be grey

Hi! Great movie. Mine has a cd function. Do you think i can change that one for the Bluetooth option? Thanks

@@c2fixiti im buying the car in two weeks, but i dont see the aux button. But i also do not see that on your movie right?:)
You can ask if it has an aux port in the cup holder

Great video BTW. Really helpful explanation of what you are doing.
Is there something like this for xc90s without an AUX?
Only a head unit screen
Watch one of my other videos
@c2fixit I see, but is that speaker a sub? How will it affect the sound?
Good clear instructions. Aux is short for auxiliary incase ppl think you mean orcs, you don’t want an orc in you car🤣
Hi, thanks for your videos. I just acquired a Volvo XC90 58 Plate. I wanted to purchase the Android Head Unit from your link but do I still need to install the Bluetooth as well before the Android Head Unit will work?
Hi mate
You do not need to install the Bluetooth into your car as the screen will give you the Bluetooth
The adapter is not needed
What you call the cable, is there better version of this adapter cable.Thank you.

quite interesting video, thx for sharing
I ordered this with microphone. Found out that it's still alive when I lock a car. Not sure if it's not going to drain a battery.
You can find them on eBay and AliExpress, however, they do not have the aux cable with them
