Nice demo. Sounds great - but - If this is meant to be a true “workstation” not just a brill stage keyboard surely its MIDI sequencing offerings should be better. A proper piano roll MIDI editor like the AKAI MPC and FORCE range would do it.
Wow, I would like to offer my kidney for the sound he uses from15:15 (I think its called Azumuth). Any changes this patch will be offered on Soundmondo?
I want to hear factory patches beginning with concern piano, not sounds externally added. To do that implies the instrument is incomplete and must be improved.
I see it just the other way round: The presets give so many possibilities to the user to modify, arrange, rearrange the sound of this instrument in a personal and creative way. You can customize all the sounds according to your own taste and wishes. That's just fanstatic. The possibilities are almost limitless by using the three sound-engines separately or in combination. And Matt Johnson showed a few of his own ideas based on this. There exist so many demos on TH-cam, where you can hear all of the factory patches. Why should Matt Johnson mereley repeat them in his short demo? That would have been a waste of the given time.
This is a synthesizer, it is not just a preset player. It is meant to make your own sounds. There is close to infinity number of possible sounds. Why would it be incomplete when not all possible sounds are factory patches :). Are all those analog synths which have no presets at all or just very few incomplete? When you change a sound on the fly as part of expressing your music is that making a synth incomplete?

@@mustafakurhan ....I like the piano samples from yamaha, but I needed more than great piano sounds and I opt out and went for the Fantom 8.....I see yamaha in my future but for now, I'm concentrating on getting the best out of that Fantom.....there is a learning curve with the Fantom physical modeling technic in trying to find the best sound for these instruments
Roland Fantom's best pianos are modeled, not sampled (sort of like Pianoteq). So, it becomes a matter of taste - do you prefer modeled or sampled pianos? The new Montage DID improve the samples of the pianos and EPs. They added more velocity layers, and made some new samples. The Fantom has the edge for virtual analog and wavetable synthesis, and for electronic music sounds especially.
@@GizzyDillespee I heard very nice piano sounds, specially Steinway piano sounds from Roland Fantom EX. They were very satisfactory. I don't particularly care if it's sampled or modeled. For me it's enough that it's realistic enough, that it's super natural.
Long story short: Yamaha makes the better specialty keyboard but you should just get the software of both instruments and save money. Long story in detail: For everyone complaining Roland does better piano sounds, they still aren't as good as the best sampled vsts. Yes they do a good job, but do keep in mind yamaha has an entire range of digital pianos, they can't make their Synths too good or nobody would buy their digital pianos. I think Roland and yamaha are both the same, yamaha is the king of vintage fm however, so naturally their fm is more capable. I find that more valuable because vsts do wayyy better acoustic instruments than any hardware synth. But also the groove synthesis 3rd wave virtual analog is wayyy better than Rolands fantom. Because I have a korg Kronos I already have a sampler and live set player instrument with better global controls than the Roland so it's also a better midi controller and it actually has polyphonic aftertouch believe it or not from 2012 at 3-4k retail! Yamaha only has it on their new 8 model. What does the Roland actually have that's better than the whole competition? Nothing from what I can see. And their zenology hardware Synths are a scam for the price. Their own Roland cloud sounds better, and you can get the zenology plug-ins too. Roland sucks they don't accel at anything. Yes their piano sounds and keybed with wood feels better, but it doesn't compare to yamahas own digital piano line and plus that's furniture territory so of course it's more expensive. Yamahas fm is better, both of their virtual analog sucks because they don't have analog filters like the 3rd wave hybrid synth, and both can be put into software on a pc as a plugin saving you thousands of dollars, and for sampling and realistic instruments vsts are better. Pair a korg Kronos or yamaha montage (depends which of their specialty sounds you want) with a groove synthesis 3rd wave and the Roland fantom becomes a phantom in specialty. I would just get the yamaha montage m plugin, the Korg Kronos is my favorite master midi controller plus it's sounds to pair with other instruments, use a dedicated midi controller to control the montage plugin, a groove synthesis 3rd wave desktop, meris mercury x and lvx, Empress zoia, chase bliss generation loss mk2, and red panda tensor pedals, an osmose expressive e controller, and a laptop for the yamaha plugin or other vsts, and the Roland is useless. The kronos can be upgraded past its original limits with hardware upgrades and surpass the new korg nautilus and it's vst, I haven't seen someone do that with the yamaha yet. Keep in mind this korg flagship series is based off the oasys from the early 2000s that back then costed $9000 without adjusting for modern day inflation, and boy does it show. That's why even their new grand stage x is just a Kronos with an added vox engine is just a korg oasys minus a bunch of features, korg is milking the oasys still in 2024. And they are the workstation brand. For these reasons the Korg Kronos is worth it over the yamaha montage in hardware form. Plus the Korg has a unique DAC sound if you want to color other instruments with it and the kronos has 2 sets of stereo unblanaced inputs, montage only has 1 set of stereo balanced inputs. Kronos is just a better overall piece of hardware and can do more than the montage. Get a yamaha clp885 or whatever it's called and while it's not portable you have probably the best á digital piano can be, and if you don't like yamaha, you can try a Roland or kawai and see if they are better. Or an on sale $70 noire vst which is 1 to 1 with real piano recordings that I've matched the yamaha CFX grand 1 to 1 with. Yes this is WAY more money than just buying a fantom, but it doesn't accel at literally anything. Only reason to buy a Roland fantom is if you're broke or have a lack of knowledge on what all the best stuff is. Roland was a good company, they now make fake scam analog (other than the good system 8), and all rounder Synths for basic or broke musicians. Just buy their plug-ins and save your money.
I think the only competitor to yamaha "hardware" piano can be kawaii, however it's the metter of your taste. Yamaha hardware is very reliable and robust. Hybrit piano action is amazing. I got 5 years of guarantee on my N1x. What to expect more?
When WW3 hits, the first thing to be knocked out will be the power grid. Might as well chuck away all your electronic instruments then, because all we’ll be able to play are our acoustics...

Roland doesn't make acoustic pianos but their phantom piano samplers are much more powerful and super natural. All my keyboards are Yamaha. I've been using Yamaha since I was a kid but now I resent YAMAHA. It has amazing technology but it's been killing musicians for years. It wants too much money but too few features. We are musicians, not sheep. We are not suckers.
Bey bad music choose
Korg pa5x is 10 times better.
When WW3 hits, the first thing to be knocked out will be the power grid. Might as well chuck away all your electronic instruments then, because all we’ll be able to play are our acoustics...
Keyboard is fantastic for a studio production but probably to heavy for taking to the gig
