  • It would be impossible for a tattoo artist to remember every single tattoo they've ever done. Of course, every tattooed person remembers their tattoos-it's kind of hard not to when they're permanently on your skin-but when you do thousands in your career it takes a lot for a piece to stay with you. We asked our panel of artists which tattoos they've been unable to forget. We hear some heartwarming stories about people tattooing their moms and helping people through grief, as well as some pretty ridiculous scenarios artists have been in. Get your tissues ready for this episode, you're going to need them.
Welcome to Season 16 of Tattoo Artists React!
I bet you thought you were going to have to wait months and months for our next season, didn’t you? Nah, brah, we’re pumping out seasons of Tattoo Artists React faster than “Law & Order” creates spinoffs. This time around we’re going to be asking our artists about the hardest spots on the body to tattoo, which styles they wish would come back into style and more. We’re also going to be showing them some of the craziest mugshots on Earth, hear their craziest client stories and so much more.

I come from an upper middle class family (father a cop and mom a nurse) and we share a love of live music. We were together at a music festival when I was 14 and it was several months after a very serious suicide attempt I had. We discovered this new band called Haim in 2012, we had only heard of their single called ‘Forever’ at the time. They played a song called ‘Falling’ and it repeated the phrase “never look back and never give up”. They knew that I had felt reborn after intense therapy and coming clean with my internal pain and that I never wanted to go back to the person I was before my most serious attempt to end my life. I remember standing with them in the middle of the festival while Phantogram was playing and telling them that I needed to get the lyrics ‘never look back and never give up’ on my body as a constant reminder.
My parents supported it, but made me wait a year on it to make sure that I still wanted it on my body permanently.
Turns out I did, and I paid for it myself and my parents both watched as I got it tattooed on my rib cage. It was such a special time for me.
Then later because I was a nerd-type, someone in my AP class in highschool said that I seemed “too nice” to have a tattoo and I was like huh??? They were my friend-ish and I just said that people who are nice can have a tattoo? Idk if he meant that I come from a nice family and shouldn’t have a tattoo yet or if he was ignorant and thought only mean people had tattoos at the time.

I personally have a black rooster head tattoo. Got it done back in September 2019. Shortly after my grandmother on my mother's side passed away. I couldn't stop crying after the tattoo was done. Hugged the tattoo artist and all that. My grandmother died the same day I tried to kill myself and I was stuck in a mental hospital so I couldn't go to see her funeral. That broke my heart. I got it on my top inner left arm since it's closest to my heart. Eventually I got half a sleeve. On the same arm representing the 3 women I love most. My grandmother, my mother, and dog. I got a humming bird and hibiscus flower for my grandmother which she had a bunch of in her front yard just like chickens and roosters. My mom loves orchids and my dog loves squirrels. My dog kept me out of doing dumbshit in my depression. My mother wasn't the most loving but she came around one i became independent and my grandmother has always loved me unconditionally ❤. I might cry once I'm done with this halfsleeve. Just did the 1st session less than a week ago. In 2 more weeks I'm doing the last session. It's beautiful

When my dog passed away in my arms in 2018 it was so traumatic. I got a photo of his paw print and had it tattooed with the date he passed on my arm. It was very important because adopting my dogs really saved my life.

Had a tattoo of my daughter done on my right forearm...it was the first portrait that my artist had ever done ...but after he had finished and I walked out of the shop, sat down and looked at it, I got body rushes for the next hour...I thought it was the most awesome tattoo EVER! He told me at my next appointment (got my wife's portrait done below my daughter) that he was so pumped after doing the first, he had to go walking for the rest of the afternoon to walk of the adrenaline rush...I'm very proud of his work on me!!

My most memorable is easily my hand one.
Simple bubbleish font. It says "Kaine The Warrior"
My son had a extremely rare brain tumor that we where battling for a long time. There came a point where the end of the road came overnight. I called local shops hoping someone could get me in. 20mins from the call I was sitting in a chair getting it done. That night he did pass.. I'd hold his hand in the hardest times and getting his nickname the nurses gave him on my hand means he always holds mine. One of the first things I see everyday.

My most memorable tattoo experience was when I saw my mother in the hospital after she got taken out of the ICU, and one of the first things she said to me was "The wolf brought me back!" It's memorable because I was getting a wolf symbol tattooed on my wrist the next day, I'm so glad that I proceeded with the tattoo as she will always be with me.

@@jaheimhankins2502 it is debated between samoans atm if a non samoan should get our ink. I think a lot of us are a little iffy about it because it tells our lineage and our history. We have a saying that says tattoo your mouth before you tattoo your skin which simply means understand and learn the history and understand the culture of the markings you put on your skin.
Personally i'm glad our art is appreciated outside the islands but i dont want to see it become a fad or fashion statement. Tatau itself is fine... there are just certain patterns that are reserved for chief titles but it seems the girl who got tatau got it for the right reasons....she wanted to expand her art and learn the history behind tatau and that for me is aight

Daaaamn, that Lalo story bout tattooing in Caribbean and having that "Im doing it" moment resonates. When Im tattooing famous musicians or at a club and the singer of Sevendust yells my name across the room and gives me devil horn hand sign and the whole room looks back at me, jaws dropped, or having a conversation with members of my favorite bands period! let alone them saying how much they love MY work and see them seriously trip out looking at my work and show each other excitedly. Tattooing my Mom was dope. But my dream GOAL is exactly what he said, oberlooking turquoise waters under a palm roof 1000%

Channeling ancestors lol girl, sounds like you had PTSD 😂 One of my friends said something like that once and I was like babe, you didn’t have a spiritual experience because you felt like you were looking at yourself from above your body, you were dissociating…

I love these videos, but every time that one artist, Ghinkos I think, speaks, I just have to jump ahead. They take forever to speak, never get to a point, and are kind of vaguely present.

Yo they're called locks don't call them dreads, they were call dread locks because Europeans thought they looked bad therefore added the word "dread". Also why she gotta move it out of her face? She looks fine whether it's there or not it's literally not for you to judge dude

    • @t.j.hanley6111

Because it's annoying to me when people think they're too cool to move hair out of their faces. You know that shit's annoying but you're too badass to move it.

... furthermore ... I'll call them whatever I want. Marley called them dreads so don't pull some political bullshit here, bud.

@@sil7062 Why can't you use proper grammar if you're trying to use proper punctuation?
