In Italy, the question whether people express themselves in a language or in a dialect is regulated by the government. In the region where I was born and bred (Friuli-Venezia Giulia) most people used to speak Friulan/Furlàn/Friaulian in the 19th century. Uh, no. Being able to say "hello" in 48 languages hardly makes you a polyglot. You need a sound degree of actual fluency in order to make such a claim, and you need to be capable of conversing about quite a very wide range of subject matter to claim real fluency.
@@scotthullinger4684 You, talk respectfully to our fellow polyglots!
@@MrSharkFIN - Get a damn clue. They are NOT "polyglots."

I feel like your content is ∞× more educative, yet you manage to make it so interresting as well, which is very hard and rare.
And you use 6+ languages in your videos(counting usage of several words or sentences from Middle English, Old English, Anglo-Saxon, Proto-germanic and Proto-indoeuropean per video), so you are hyperpolyglot gigachad.
Hi rob
As a monoglot, studying Spanish, I can 100% confirm that his Shwali was spot on not a mistake in his speech tone or grammar.
As a bilingualist who speaks Arabic (native language) and English, I appreciate your talent. Keep up the good work.
Stop being a beta and learn Spanish to become gigachad
By making this video, he's pretending that he wasn't already pretending to be a polyglot in the first place
I know he speaks French fluently, so he's probably a few years off from being a legit polyglot (like the Russian needs time I think; I don't speak Russian)
@@jamiepianist I speak fluent Russian, it does take a lot of time but I grew up with Russian cartoons so not in my case
@@jamiepianisti'm probably late, but as a russian native speaker - his russian is pretty decent. so if american counts you could consider him as a polyglot.

Damn, what a great piece of comedy is this video! Loved the jokes and the comedy times. The part of the testimonials really got me, I laughed so hard that I choked myself and started speaking perfect chicken language. And the best part is that you described what is perfectly happening in the language community on TH-cam!

Nunca estás "finished" de aprender un idioma. No lo digas, porfa. There's always something new to learn, sweet child. ¿What language are you learning now that you've moved on from el mexicano?
I speak only Russian, but I recently found out that I understand other languages of the Slavic group quite well, so I have started lurning Ukrainian and Polish
same, girl! польский очень прикольный, хотя, на мой взгляд, сложный всё-таки в понимании с нуля, а с украинским (как и с беларуским) нужна просто практика
As someone from Greece, I cannot relate to understanding other language based on my default language, but it seems to me that many Slavic countries have similar vocabulary and grammar so they are just the same kind of a foreign language
@@goatgamer001 There's kinda alot of greek vocabulary in other languages due to the inventions, philosophy and other ancient stuff, so you'll find some pieces of greek language everywhere
@@goatgamer001 adding on to the greek loanwords in many indo-european languages, you already know the russian words кукла and стихия

After the great points about not gatekeeping language learning you once again made, I can't believe I wasn't subscribed to you yet. Anyway, I think I can proof (fake) knowing four languages to apply to the club:

I used to watch a polyglot who was making classes for 8 languages, claimed to be able to speak on 30 and reading on 50. It was empressive but apart of languages he was just a regural guy...
3 languages? I have two native languages, and A1 German. I also understand a LOT of languages partially, and I can read cyrillic, not to mention my decent understanding of a lot of indo-european languages and my understanding of Norwegian and Danish, as I am Swedish. Nevermind that though. That doesn't matter, because even without it, I guess I'm about one bratwurst away from becoming a polyglot.

Oh wow so you're telling me that I speak enough languages pour être reconnu comme membre fondateur du club des hyperpolyglottes ? Das ist wunderschön, ich wusste nicht dass ich gut genug darum spreche. Pues, muchas gracias por proponer. Je sais que les langues que je parle sont communes, insbesonders in Europa, pero perdóname, I'm French, solo he aprendido las lenguas de mis vecinos.
In Italy, the question whether people express themselves in a language or in a dialect is regulated by the government. In the region where I was born and bred (Friuli-Venezia Giulia) most people used to speak Friulan/Furlàn/Friaulian in the 19th century. The government decided that this is a language while Venetian is a dialect like e.g. Neapolitan, Sicilian, but Sardinian is recognised as a language.

Я бы, конечно, хотел бы присоедениться into the club of the hyper polyglots and gigachads, where I could free myself from the monolingual betas, Pero hay un problema que puede detenerme. Mi cuarto idioma es nihongo desu. ぼくの日本語はとてもかっこいいです, потому что у всех молодых русских есть практика этого языка. Мой дед бил японцев в Маньчжурии, и от него я и получил основы этого языка, а сейчас все шпионят за японским творчеством, называемое ранобе, манга и аниме, чтобы предотвратить возврат курил. But I have seen your dismissive attitude toward the Japanese, a strong nation in the archipelago that once defeated the Russian Empire. Because of this, I don't think your club is worthy of me.

Agree I am touristlingal in a few languages. For example I can speak a bit of Thai. At Thai restaurants in the states I can order food and drinks. The Thai staff is so excited someone tries they are very nice and struggle to use the contexts to understand what I am ordering. I can hear a few words that let me know the drink order is being asked about and the level of spiciness. As there is a back and forth with a smiling Thai person I appear fluent. I heard some of the youtube polyclots with the same level of language skills. Although there are some real ones.
i'm still not technically fluent in multiple languages, but i do speak at least 3 conversationally. does that count for something??
Are the natives SHOCKED!!! when you speak to them? Because that's the only metric that counts.

I speak almost 3 languages, English, Portuguese, and Latin. Eu falo português fluentemente e intendo tudo mas eu falo com um sotaque Americano. As for Latin, I studied it in school for 6 years and can mostly understand written and spoken Latin, but have a very hard time speaking. Additionally, I learned Church Latin and not Classical Latin, so my pronunciation is a bit different from most Latin speakers. The reason I say almost 3 languages is because I don't consider my Latin to be good enough for me to be trilingual. I'm currently trying to learn German, but I can only speak a few basic phrases at this point. Before I go around calling myself a polyglot, I will first try to perfect my Latin and then learn German.
