to all of you saying you're too scared to go to your local skate shop, as someone who has worked at a skate shop for 3 years, i have delt with people just getting into it as well as people skating forever. you're local skate shop will be able to sort you out for what you need and won't judge you! everyone i work with and myself love our job and all the customers we meet daily. we were also just like you at one point, nervous about getting your first board, but its something to be excited about! visiting a skate shop is so much fun
+Paige Mill I'm scared to go because I'm a girl, idk if there's gonna be the people who judge me because I wanna skate 😂even though I've already gotten a longboard from there, I guess it's more of being scared to go to a skate park.
Hey im really getting into skateboarding ,im from singapore. 17 . But i have flat feet is it fine to skate?I had some low quality skateboards which i use to cruise around but they are fake so i can only ride on it, should i get a real skateboard? idk what to get any tips or brand for begineer? thanks!
I am scared to ask my mom to buy me a skateboard because she doesn't want me to be a "tomboy" ,she wants me to be a girly girl. My sisters are always laughing at me and calling me a "boy".But, my dad totally approves of me buying one ☺
I just ordered my board online at Skatewarehouse, you can build a complete and check out the prices. The most expensive part is really the deck. Go down and look at the skate warehouse decks which are $19 & look for mini logo trucks which are $14. Your build should be around $60.
+Andrew Guerrero what board did you get? i'm looking at a 8.0' flip team complete for $79.99 and i'm curious to know if that is a good brand? it's on skatewarehouse btw
+Ryan Demboski I bought a birdhouse board with mini logo trucks, blind wheels and pig bearings. the complete was $99. I wouldn't recommend completes. if you're willing to spend $70 might as well customize it and choose your own parts so you know it's what you want. better performance
For anyone who watched the skater trainer ad before this video just FYI you can accomplish the exact same thing by tightening your bearings so your wheels don't spin
You do. It’s called a complete or this is a custom. You build this one but it’s more expensive but complete is already built but cheaper because it’s already built and I you can’t choose what wheels, bearings bushing deck etc you get. You can get lucky and get a complete for like $90 and it has the specs you want like small wheels, big deck etc
Kms I only have my dads old school board from the 80's and the last time the wheels were changed was in like the 90s. I am flying a plane with no rudder and a paper exterior.
+Reptillian Yeah, but look at Jay Adams. Kid rode barefoot and shirtless. There's a pic of him hanging ten on the nose of his board down hill. Yeah, he was a surfer first as many a skater were back then, but he's the father of modern skateboarding.
I recently just bought my first legitimate board, and if anyone is skeptical about going in and telling the staff that you're inexperienced, don't be! I went in barely knowing how to cruise and the guy working there was super friendly and gave me tons of tips and tricks to know about skating. I'm so glad that I got the guts to go, because now I have the perfect skateboard for my needs ((:
I was 12 when this video came out. I’m 20 now. This video was my guide for my first board. I’ve been skating ever since. Skateboarding has become my life and biggest hobbie ever since. Thanks so much for inspiring me.
Aidan Selvidge I think your over reacting There made from quality wood what do u mean its made for 3 dollars? It takes time, Effort , Money and quality products! if your going to be a skater youve got to realise the fact that its not going to be cheap lol
my son is turning 11 soon and asked me for a skateboard for his bday, i never skated and never was into it, this video helped me cause i had the urge to go for a target or walmart skateboard, since i tought they were good for someone who doesnt know how to skate at all. already bought all the parts myself at a skate shop and at my son bday we will both put it together, think it will be fun ;)
I recently bought my first deck. It's a 7.5 and I'm over 6ft tall. It's really just whatever works. I've gotten used to how thin the board is and I can ride it quite comfortably now, but if you were to buy an 8.25 board I'm sure you'd get used to it just as fast
I'm no Tony Hawk. I don't try to go flying or anything. Just cruise around when the suns going down or maybe in the morning when it's quiet. Good times.
Ask around if one of your friends has an old board lying around and if they can make a good price for you. If you know anyone that skates for 2 years plus, they`ll have one. If not go to craigslist or whatever kind of website sells used stuff in your area. Then you skate that board until the first part breaks and start replacing the broken parts with better parts, that`ll cost you the same amount of money, but spread over time and you already know your preferences when you get new parts. You can get great boards for cheap that way.
I just bought my board online (I got into it recently cause of braille and these guys) and I ended up paying $90 almost on the nose for an Almost Daewon board with clear mob grip, bones reds, mini logo wheels and royal bare trucks. The shop I used was skate warehouse and they offer a $30 discount for a full build online. I also had to search for a few hours to find that the mini logo wheels and the royals trucks were the cheapest possible choice and I actually really like them. Then I was able to get the board I liked (love the revive designs but man had to go with the deal) and a good set of gear otherwise. I even made a few changes so that I was above $75 for the build (I had them put it together because I was nervous about messing up the clear grip) which meant $5 2-day shipping. I could have gone with a cheaper deck and had it super cheap. I honestly highly recommend them for a first board, then maybe shop at local shops so they can stay in business when you need new or better gear.
Surely if you are wanting to try out skateboarding for the first time, its better to buy a cheap board thats 20$ first incase you decide that its not for you and not spend 160$ ? I am going to try out skateboarding and I got my first board of amazon for £20 since im in the UK and if it breaks and i get half decent at it then I might buy a slightly more expensive board with decent trucks/wheels etc, probably off the internet as skate shops dont really exist in my area
Poisonmon I started out with a rly nice penny board online because it was discounted so I spent 40 bucks on it and I LUV IT SO MUCH I skate it at least 2 a week and for Christmas I'm going to get a real skateboard and I can't wait
Kaitlyn Jones thats fair enough my £20 skateboard has its glaws like having wheels that dont roll properly but a skate tool fixed that sort of (had to borrow one since mine hasnt arrived yet) I have also cleaned the bearings and its improved the roll but yet to test it out.I am tempted to buy a decent set of bearings like Bones Reds and some decent wheels ( will cost me like £30 all in) since I have a hunch thatll make it better. It has decent trucks even if they are super loose(tightened them but are still loose somehow and they are metal ones) If I enjoy skating or get better at it I am goibg to grab a Revive board cause they are solid but they are £50 from SkateHut.co.uk :'( which is a lot of money to me! might have to ask santa haha
You won't be able to even try anything with a lot of the cheap boards you can buy at places like wal-mart. Most of them can't even ride that well. You'll save a good amount of money also going with a local shop deck since they are usually cheaper anyway. Plus they are usually built really well since they are made for the local team riders and what not.
i only bought a cheap skateboard( not a wallmart board, its from a proper company) to try out skateboarding and also since i am in the uk skate shops dont exist so i cant just pop into my "local shop" I am also currently not in a joh so I cant actually afford to spend a ,ot of money on a skateboard, the board i got rides fine now that i loosened the wheels with a skatetool. If I enjoy it ( if the uk weather actually permits) I will invest in better wheels and bezrings to improve my board since they are re atively cheap and if i start doing it a lot and get good at it then i will jaybe invest in a revive board or something but not right now. also seeing as I suffer from mild chronic pain, i xan only skate for short leriods of time so my £20 boardwill do fine for me.
i am getting my kids a $20 department store board each, since they are lighter i assume that it will last a while, and if they puss out and decide they don't like skateboarding then i only lost $20, i do plan to put some decent bearings in them however.
same at skatewarehouse, the reason is because you get it instantly at the shop, no waiting, so there is a markup. It is always cheaper on the internet.
Please do a vid laying out the details for best skateboard setups regarding different types of skating... Best board setup for BEGINNERS, best setup for VERT, best for FLAT GROUND, STREET, ALL AROUND... THANK YOU!!!!!
I haven’t watched a San Tabor in a while and I’m getting back into these vids and skateboarding so when I heard him say “Enter Sam Tabor” that was like a nostalgic slap 😂
Hi, just wanted to add that this video helped immensely. I have a four year old son who is a bit of a whippet on the scooter so rather than chase him, I used this as an opportunity to purchase a deck, wheels, bearings, trucks and socks! It’s been 24 years since I had a skateboard and it took me around 20mins to get used to it. No tricks at this stage but it was great to be able to bomb around with my son at the park. With an age of 38, that’s surely not too old to re-start?
Hey Andy I know this is a very old video , but I am a beginner and I just bought my first new board and it is a revive tiedye deck and am grip , and I love it. Your company makes great boards and you seem like really awesome people. I just wanted to say that your awesome. Love your videos!
As a beginner I bought a $40 Walmart board that I used for 2 months before upgrading...and still have it. It served me well for learning balance and a couple of basic moves. Buy what you can afford.
The nearest skate shop in my Country is a 4 1/2 hour drive, I've started with a shitty ass Smyths board to get the absolute basics down and maybe I can order something online when I earn some money in the future.
A big thing for beginners I feel, is knowing the nose from the tail. The tail is the smaller end. It's common to think the bigger end provides more pop. Although, professional skateboarder Ryan decenzo rides his board backwards.
Nose and tail matter? I thought boards are symetrical! Someone explain please? $162 is a very big commitment if you don't even know if you like it... :(
Eternal Darkus Yeah. I actually found one. One wheel isn't rolling the rest is decent. I get new bearings and then it will work just fine. (It has no griptape butI just glued sandpaper on top :) )
+Finlay Hunter You're probably better off ordering online anywa, bud. Much more to choose from and obviously right at your fingertips! Unlike your nearest shop.
in Canton Michigan there are not that many, and none of them sell penny boards. has anyone ever thought that maby someone can't ride a skateboard because they are terrified of the uncontrollable Ness of them
Skate Lifestyle I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think it's because the rocks and rough shards sticking out of the asphalt or ground would sink into the soft wheel, and creating more friction and stick to the wheel, making it slower. Hard wheels will glide over them more easily without getting shanked by the rocks
i have a question if someone will answer. so i haven't skated in a few years like 6 years and i always used the walmart boards but really never did any tricks and tricks aren't really my favorite thing do. ok so my question is should i use a longboard instead of a shortboard for just riding? I've heard that longboards are better for just cruising. I've tried a longboard once before but it wasn't mine, anyways i hope someone can answer my question thanks.
Longboards are definitely best to ride around place-to-place and for fun, but you'll look stupid if you take it to the skatepark and try to do tricks on it.
Hey, guys I am Trying to get into skating and I was wondering If this was a good setup Deck: good wood hey kitty 8.0 Trucks Krux tall k4 black 8.0 Wheels spitfire hypno swirl 52 white wheels Bearings shake junt low rider abec 3 iron horse hardware jessup griptape and a unit skate tool looking to skate street and park thanks dudes
I think its easier to get in to the skating if you have friends or people you know that have a board, try it out a bit and decide whether you want to drop the money on the board. Best advice I can give
The video's instructions weren't understandable enough for me... So I ended up being arrested for going into a skateshop naked... Thx Andrew... This misdemeanor is on you
No you don't need socks to skate... Honestly you don't even need a board to skate. Use your imagination

Bruh I just looked at a board said "I like that one" and I said "now built it for me" and I left with my first new board
Bro, I just bought a Walmart 29$ board, wdym?😔
Lol is it still work
Hey Andy I know this is a very old video , but I am a beginner and I just bought my first new board and it is a revive tiedye deck and am grip , and I love it. Your company makes great boards and you seem like really awesome people. I just wanted to say that your awesome. Love your videos!
3:52 i have that same element skateboard in the background
I own a car which is faster than a skateboard so get REKTD
Josh deveaux can’t tre flip that car though can you mate
"put your skateboard together, have fun!" dang bro I watched this so I didn't have to get help from a skater ;P hahahahaa
thank you for making this video so I can finally start skateboarding
What kind of brand makes the best skating socks?
+rihasanat rofolo Stance, vans, and volcom imo
The thieves sock brand. Comfy and pretty awesome designs. I have one pair that has a dog surfing.

Oof
My board is smol bc my feet are smol and I'm smol 😂😂
haha so smaol such a bean lil potato
As a beginner I bought a $40 Walmart board that I used for 2 months before upgrading...and still have it. It served me well for learning balance and a couple of basic moves. Buy what you can afford.
The nearest skate shop in my Country is a 4 1/2 hour drive, I've started with a shitty ass Smyths board to get the absolute basics down and maybe I can order something online when I earn some money in the future.
Purplepoppyanimator ya it cheaper online
Me watches while having a weathered Walmart board with no grip tape and a splitting deck
+ShakerGER You could start out with a walmart board, and once you start getting serious then you can go get a legit one.
Eternal Darkus Nah everyone I ever saw talking bout it said that this is the worst way to start...
ShakerGER ...I meant see if you like it and then get an actual board...
Eternal Darkus Yeah. I actually found one. One wheel isn't rolling the rest is decent. I get new bearings and then it will work just fine. (It has no griptape butI just glued sandpaper on top :) )

Is a 100$ skateboard good?
joelle deeb yes

My first "skate board" was a penny board. I loved it. I recently got a new one. I don't do tricks but the penny board is great fun.
I just spent $200 on my first skateboard today...
😬

I just realised andy looks just like Ryder with a beard
this video helped me out so much when i bought my first skateboard, i love it, it's an anti-hero
I'm 11 and 5'0 and I think I'm gunna get an 7.75
i’m 13 and 5’8” and i skate 7.75

Bunny ear epic fail!
well i live in really boaring place in england and there are no skate shops here cuz its surrey GUUUHH
Move to Barcelona
+Finlay Hunter You're probably better off ordering online anywa, bud. Much more to choose from and obviously right at your fingertips! Unlike your nearest shop.
I'm in England too it's rubbish I cant find a good place for skateboards
in Canton Michigan there are not that many, and none of them sell penny boards. has anyone ever thought that maby someone can't ride a skateboard because they are terrified of the uncontrollable Ness of them
I live in Australia never heard of a skateshop
I don't know anything about skateboarding but I found this video very fun and enjoyable
This video wasn't clear enough. I bought my board at Toys R Us.
Does ToysRus sell good enough boards? Or at a OKAY price?
Propenn they are cheap, but if your gonna do ANY tricks it'll snap...
3:29 y’all see that
About to skate again after a while and I'm going to get a revive board because I love your videos and am proud to support
my actual name is orion
pyrosi nnohcult omg slowpoke is my fav pokemon
That sucks
that's cool.

Cool
I ride Bones wheels is that good
EdwinSpencer its personal preference. Skate what you like and what works best for you.
I love watching your videos. I snowboard and skateboarding helps so much
If streets are usually rough, then why would u use a hard wheel
you wouldn't, you would use a softer wheel. Ricta Clouds 92a are perfect for rough street and still hard enough to do street skating at least for me
Skate Lifestyle I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think it's because the rocks and rough shards sticking out of the asphalt or ground would sink into the soft wheel, and creating more friction and stick to the wheel, making it slower. Hard wheels will glide over them more easily without getting shanked by the rocks
My soft wheels are full of thorns, but I prefer them bc the streets near me are super cracked. I'd fall so much more with hard wheels I think
I ride Clouds 78a for urban skating, and STF's when i'm at the park.
i have a question if someone will answer. so i haven't skated in a few years like 6 years and i always used the walmart boards but really never did any tricks and tricks aren't really my favorite thing do. ok so my question is should i use a longboard instead of a shortboard for just riding? I've heard that longboards are better for just cruising. I've tried a longboard once before but it wasn't mine, anyways i hope someone can answer my question thanks.
yeah get a long board if crusing is what you like... they are nice i had one :D
+Victor Ponce thank you!:) now all i gotta do i make sure i remember how to skate good 😂😂😂
yup
joey casella I would buy a longboard or a penny board. My personal preference is a penny board because I like small boards
Longboards are definitely best to ride around place-to-place and for fun, but you'll look stupid if you take it to the skatepark and try to do tricks on it.
I got a skateboard for Christmas and your the one that taught me some tricks.thankyou.

goodwood boards are actually really good to skate. easy to maneuver not too heavy and the maple is pretty strong too.

+Epiczeldagamer12435 www.theshredquarters.com/ your welcome
+Epiczeldagamer12435 there should be zumiez nearby at least
Ever heard about Internett
Try used sporting goods stores.
+Epiczeldagamer12435 amazon
I think its easier to get in to the skating if you have friends or people you know that have a board, try it out a bit and decide whether you want to drop the money on the board. Best advice I can give
The video's instructions weren't understandable enough for me... So I ended up being arrested for going into a skateshop naked... Thx Andrew... This misdemeanor is on you
162$?no wonder that skating is dying out jesus christ..
Jens Krause you can get a good skateboard for 100 bucks
To sweet
ikr ?! you can buy a bike for that money
yeah EVERY dumbass kid has the newest iphones for $1000, which does EXACTLY the same thing as Last Years model......
I was gonna get one for 60 bucks, is that too cheap.
