I never hate watch these bad shows. I’ve never seen Velma. I’ve never seen rings of power. I’ve never seen madame web. I didn’t watch the all female ghostbusters movie or the boba fett miniseries. But I’ve watched maybe a hundred + hours of TH-cam creators complaining about them. Much more entertaining. Nice video and a like from me.
Rings of power isn't as bad as its reputation. The visuals are gorgeous and there are actual character arcs in it but you need to disassociate from the original lotr movies to enjoy it.
@@tamarleahh.2150I made it to the penultimate episode and the storytelling is garbage, the visuals don't save it because lotr is about the characters not the settings. And Galadriel wasn't true to her character. Plot lines didn't make sense and omg was it boring. I gave up after the volcano. HotD had representation and more cohesive storytelling, and while I haven't forgiven George for not finishing the books or D&D for seasons 7 and 8, I can recommend HotD. I recommend RoP to only my worst enemies, sadly those are the ones pushing this ideology.
@@jenn9027 you say Galadriel wasn't true to her character but my point is exactly to disregard what you are supposed to know about her. The Galadriel of the show is a different Galadriel. The character itself does have an arc: Starting out on a quest to avenge her brother's murder, earning glory but being so obsessed and insecure about her mission that she won't give up and find peace, making tons of mistakes and alienating everyone around her with her selfish obsession and then ultimately paying with the consequence of her rearming the one she swore to destroy. If it weren't for her arrogance and selfishness she would have been able to focus on the real enemy instead of essentially becoming a villain herself. She's asked why she doesn't stop and admits that she doesn't know how. What lies beneath this is her unwillingness to accept the death of her brother and move on with life. It's not the Galadriel of lotr but it is an interesting exploration into character.
@@tamarleahh.2150 lol you want everyone to drop existing lore to accept their shitty telling of a great character. Instead, why not make something original.......oh yeah.
The thing I hate the most is the gaslighting regarding this so-called toxic fanbase. This is a thing KK and others made up. The whole toxic fanbase thing is just a victim ideology invention to keep her (A wealthy millionaire) looking good among her own crowd. No woman was ever unwelcome in star wars until KK declared it and kept using that line (talk about repeating the lie until everyone believes it). The female audience of geek stuff was always small, but they have now all walked away with the men. Hollywood doesn't want to tell stories, they want to tell identity and victimhood, and sadly, I don't see it stopping anytime soon. As a woman, I'm not into it, and I refuse to watch it.
the fact that you waited until the end of your comment to tell us you were a women just makes this mini review so much better it just makes everything you said completely valid and every other non paid actor/reviewer out there was watching this genuinely wanting a good story valid as well but i honesty fear that woke western media will only get worse the days of authentic and genuine passion seen through your art is slowly coming to a close for the west and i want to emphasise on "the WEST" as for me i will not being continuing acolyte i only watched 1 episode to understand it will be a waste of my time but i will be coming to see reviews of this Highly anticipated episode 3 everyone is talking about 😂
Disney spent a ludicrous amount of money to buy multiple franchises so they could capitalize on their massive existing fanbase, then spent a decade intentionally, actively, and OPENLY chasing that existing fanbase away, while barely trying to grow a new one. A confusing business strategy but I'm sure it'll pay off any day now.
Disney thought brand recognition alone was enough and people would blindly clap for whatever discharge they eked out. The thing is, to have an established entertainment brand, HARD WORK was required to ENTERTAIN audiences... thus solidifying it as an entertainment brand. You can't buy a brand and then dismantle everything of substance about it that helped establish it as a popular brand in the first place. The era of deconstructionism and woke needs to be slammed into the rubbish bin of history.
Holy shit, we've finally got there. We're finally at the point where blowing up the Death Star has become "morally grey". We are now full post-modernism.
It's incredible that someone can even inhabit that head space unironically. It makes me worry that Charlie is a bad person if he is unable to make very clear moral distinctions
@@gregowen2022 You act like you think that empire had good hiring practices and everyone got to choose where they were stationed. What about the fact that a lot of soldiers in the empire were conscripted as children from conquered worlds and brainwashed and indoctrinated into the military with the penalty for disobedience being death. Isn't it at least a little grey to have to kill hundreds of thousands of slave soldiers who literally never had a choice. And before the Death Star actually fired, it is unclear as to how many people on it actually knew it was a planet killer and not just a mobile base. It was definitely right to destroy it when he did, the Death Star needed to be stopped, but I have to imagine Luke spared at least some thought and mourning after the war for the fact that he had to indiscriminately kill so many people instead of getting the chance to save those who were pressed into service, after all he is the same kid who tried to save Vader. I mean, you might only see it as black and white, but I don't think Luke did.
To be fair, the discussion of how Death Star also had people who were just doing their jobs like mechanics, isnt really new. Kevin Smith asked that 20+ years ago while he still was fat and didnt lost weight and with that all of his creativity. But nobody should wonder whether its a good act to destroy Death Star when The Empire already killed millions of people in Alderan with it and plans to kill many more who just dare to oppose them.

Sbarro employees: Hey Bob, why do all the lights dim and the station shakes occasionally? And then I hear that the planet that we were just orbiting mysteriously exploded. I don't know, but I was trying to get with that scary goth, death chick who wears the really odd helmet, and she said that she couldn't tell me what she did for the Empire, because they'd kill me.
The fact that they haven't even considered a Revan movie, shows they have no knowledge of what the fandom wants. Although, as they keep murdering characters, I'm kinda glad they leave him alone
I love the old Republic era, my favorite being KOTOR 2, I would love to see Darth Kreia on screen. However, if Disney was in charge of it, Bastilla (who would be a lesbian) would be the true hero and it would end with Palpatine somehow going back in time to be the big bad.
I honestly don't think revan should be made into a movie, because his story is best suited for the video games. A better choice would be darth bane. His story as told through the bane trilogy is very solid for a 3 part film trilogy, and would easily satisfy all fans, even Disney progressives since banes apprentice is a woman named zannah, and she kills him in the 3rd book to continue the rule of 2. It's an easy win.
Oh my God....that is what I've been asking for. And frankly, they don't even have to write a script, KOTOR did it for them....however, Disney would STILL mess it up 10 ways to Sunday
Disney is acting like a Server at a restaurant who spits in the food of customers....in front of said customers and then acts shocked when they get no tips, only complaints.
Disney is acting like a server at a restaurant who wants spitting in customers' food to become a perfectly normal and regular thing. So he keeps doing it and hopes that shaming his customers for having problems with it will eventually get them to shut up and accept it.
It's kind of wild that the Scene has gone from "The Empire is obviously nazis and always evil" to "blowing up the Death Star was a morally gray act actually" in just a year's time.
Actually Lucas said he was thinking about the Viet Cong for the rebels so I think you mean to say "The Empire is obviously America and always evil." But also the morally gray thing has been a funny debate ever since Clerks; It didn't just spring up in the past year.
@@kxbrewskythe Clerks conversation was about the second Death Star, which was still under construction; IIRC Randall grants that the first Death Star (the one destroyed by Anak--Luke) was destroyed in an act of was and manned by enemy combatants. Saying that the destruction of the first Death Star, a superweapon used to kill billions of people in a single strike, is "morally gray" is either evidence that this person is an idiot, or that he/she watched Clerks a few years ago, doesn't totally remember the conversation but is trying to sound smart.
@@wyssmaster That's fair, it has been a while since I've seen it, and I will admit to being at least partially an idiot, but I more so mean that Randal helped to open up conversations about the morality of some things in Star Wars that had previously been taken for granted. I didn't mean that we've all been repeating that exact same conversation for 30 years. Randal does grant the first Death Star, but I'd say he may have been quick to do so. He is essentially saying that since everyone on DS1 was an Imperial that means they are all evil, which is an easy assumption to make, but probably not actually the case. We do know of at least one cantina from the Death Star novel, the Hard Heart, which was run by a Twi'lek after her bar on Coruscant suspiciously burned down, and while she and her people did escape after learning the DS was in fact a planet killer, not just a mobile base, we don't know how many other services were strong armed into taking positions on the ship and didn't have a chance to escape. Ignoring them, we can't even say that all the imps were completely evil. We know for a fact that the Empire conscripted a lot children from conquered planets into the military then indoctrinated and straight up brainwashed them to be good little soldiers and killed anyone they deemed untrainable. I'm not saying that Luke shouldn't have taken the shot, and I don't think anyone is saying that. The Death Star needed to be destroyed, but I do think it's at least a little gray to kill, potentially, hundreds of thousands of slave soldiers who literally never had another choice except for death. I imagine, since he was a good person, after the war Luke probably felt some regret or mourning or some kinda way for having to indiscriminately end so many lives instead being able to save those who were pressed into service. He even tried to save Vader in the end, so I always assumed he didn't think in simple black and white. Also, you don't need to be rude when replying to people, you can just argue the points instead of resorting to name calling. Regardless, I will say I checked out your channel, and I really enjoy your music. Wellspring is beautiful. I hope that the lack of views didn't get you down and that you are still composing.
A Dyson Sphere, maybe? Wasn't everyone going on about how Orange Man Bad was going to start World War 3 by then? Maybe they thought that was a clear enough reference.
It would probably be the Republic building that since they're apparently saying the space nazi's aren't THAT evil. Like destroying a planet full of innocent people on a whim wasn't evil.
Ah yes. The "I don't feel safe" argument. Me as a short, finnish female with neurological illnesses just feel so unsafe when thease ment for entertainment movies and shows don't have character thats JUST LIKE ME. How am I suppose to feel safe watching them.

I think some of the actresses are more so worried that they may end up being the target of massive online bullying and death threats like what happened with Kelly Marie Tran and with more minority women in the cast it's harder to single out any one individual for people to direct their intolerance towards. I'm glad you feel safe though, it would be pretty weird if just watching anything made you, or anyone, feel unsafe.
@kxbewsky Kellie Marie Tran received ZERO threats or violence. Not once did she say she did, and she literally only said ONE thingrrelated to Star Wars in her "goodbye" tweet. There is ZERO evidence that ANY of these people, like Kellie, Jake (kid Ani), or Ahmed (Jar Jar) received any real backlash from the fans, and a whole MESS of evidence that the backlash they received was exclusively from the main stream media. We're there some fans that did? I'd bet there were a few. But only a tiny, insignificant fraction of the fanbase.
@@dragonmaster1360 people act like we all dont receive hate online. What do you do if some rando sends you a dm? You literally ignore it and move on lmfao these people cry "cyber bully" but literally, how? turn off the fucking screen
The fanbase like characters like OG Shaak Ti and Ahsoka so a female focussed show wouldn't have been an issue. It's the male-hating dialogue that alienates fans. I never felt "left out" as a female fan of OG Star Wars. I even really dislike the Jedi because of how emotionally repressive they are which has consistently led to minds weak to Sith corruption. I'd be as equally down for a male led show as much as a female one but I don't need to hear from either how great they are just because of what's between their legs. Tbf The Acolyte makes me want to exclude myself because I don't think any sex is morally superior so their dialogue is ridiculously off-putting.
That's like having a bunch of civilians working on an aircraft carrier for some reason. In port sure, but when the ship is at sea everyone on board is a member of the military.
Seriously. When I was a kid, the only tiny bit of a regret I had was the likelihood that there were some other prisoners in the cell blocks after they rescued Leia. But now that I’m no longer a five-year-old I realize pretty much any of those prisoners would’ve been willing to die so that the death star wouldn’t be able to kill more planets.
I'm not gonna say that Luke shouldn't have taken the shot, it was probably for the best for it to be done at that moment. I do feel like everyone here is forgetting the fact that a shit ton of empire soldiers were forcefully conscripted as children, brainwashed and indoctrinated into the imperial military, with often the only alternative being death, for the purpose of being front line fodder. I know Luke is a good person too, so I imagine he would have taken some time, after the war, to mourn the fact that he had to kill hundreds of thousands of slave soldiers who had no choice their whole lives ever since the empire conquered their planets. And I mean he did try to save Vader later right? That's kinda grey too right, turning the bad guy back to good? I just don't think Luke sees everything so black and white; he probably did think about the cantina workers. Also it's unclear as to how many people on the Death Star knew of its full capabilities before it was actually fired, and once it was used on Alderaan it was destroyed within 24 hours, before it could recharge and be used again. So anyone who abruptly learned that they were on a planet killer and suddenly didn't want to be their anymore probably didn't have time to escape. And before you say "but it was called the Death Star, how could they not know", it really does fit with a naming scheme along side the Star Destroyer, which, we all know, could not, in fact, destroy stars.
@@kxbrewsky Fair and well reasoned points. Most soldiers regret the lives they took. Jedi certainly do as well. The problem is when people try to act like there is somehow equivalency in Luke’s case. Even if there were some people on the death star that arguably didn’t deserve to die, there is simply no way to justify leaving the death star intact. What triggers so many people is when the creators of Star Wars content are so out of touch and so full of themselves that they insist on things that just don’t work. Their morality and view of the world is so twisted, allowing them to justify search rotten things as insulting their own fans or dismissing the value of George Lucas, that we are sick and tired of nearly everything they say. So even if there are tiny kernels of truth, we absolutely don’t want to hear it from these particular people. We need them to shut up and go away.
I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the characters, about to be killed by a Jedi, says something like, “I can’t breathe,” or, “don’t shoot,” as some sort of Easter egg to real world events.
Hahahaha, oh that’s so absurd and insanely on the nose that now I think it’s probably going to happen. They can’t help themselves from doing stuff like that
Now that you've mentioned it, I will be surprised if we don't see a Jedi force-choking someone with dark skin. The acting direction in the script will, undoubtedly, call for them to "Sneer racistly" as they do. Not sure how they'll convey that, but it'll be great TV I'm sure, they're saving Star Wars here guys.
I don't think the original trilogy really did a good job of showing how bad life under the stormtroopers was, aside from blowing up a planet which is more of a vader and palps thing. Not saying that such a direct reference to modern real world events and problems is such a good idea though. Many stories usually feature an oppressed or persecuted species or group so it can't be that hard to deliver a message about oppression in a satisfactory way. 🤔
Remember, "Any contractor working on that Death Star knew the risk involved; if they got killed, it's their own fault. A roofer listens to this [pointing to his heart], not his wallet."
I don't think workers had any choice or saying on accepting nor rejecting working there. Also I think George Lucas never wrote it that way thinking in the innocent workers. Ok, maybe the workers were simply droids, and the only living beings were full imperials.
Palpatine also had everyone who helped build the Death Star killed afterwards so they couldn't spoil the surprise. No wonder the second one was so piecemeal, right?
It couldn't be simpler for me. I'm tired of performative diversity. I'm tired of being told all the details of these peoples' boring, lifeless lives. And for god sake am I tired of this fake "moral ambiguity" being inserted into every single story. I already knew the show wasn't for me, but even if it was, it just sounds like a waste of time, and judging by what they discussed about the upcoming episode on Open Bar last night, it's only getting worse from here. Great video as always, Greg.

It'd be one thing if it was the bald green Shrek looking clueless Jedi master or the snarky female Padawan who didn't know her, but that Carrie Ann Moss Jedi would know her asap. Also this show forgot Jedi can sense other Jedi coming
The thing that all these people seem to miss with the Death Star is that LUKE killed about a million COMBATANTS. By blowing up Alderaan, the empire killed 2 billion civilians. Those two things aren’t even close to comparable
Even in the case of the DS2, its a WMD and the contractors have to know that. Even if they don't, you knew you would be working on a military project. There are risks inherent in that even without an active insurgency/rebellion going on.
The same pathetic kind seems to miss why IDF had to go to Gaza. They are crazy in a very aggressive and dangerous way. It is even more dangerous since a large percentage of our country do not identify them as mentally ill. They have a huge problem identifying evil from good
I’m afraid their target demographic is actually children. They really don’t care about fans getting upset or low ratings, as kids don’t care about movie ratings or what adults say on the internet. And money is obviously not an issue or the goal for Disney because this has been happening for many years now. So what is the goal, then? Maybe it is to influence young generations with a particular worldview.
that's probably very true however how will those kids ever watch something their parents won't take them to see right? that's the problem Disney is going to have in today's culturally divided world. sure they may catch it on tv once it comes out but that just mean they are losing more money to reeducate children on tv. that'll be some thing that they can afford for only so long.
Endured the first two eps. The biggest sin any kind of sci-fi can commit is that it's boring. The only reason we're discussing it (like you said) is because its Star Wars. Star Wars is officially dead. Just waiting for the funeral to take place so I can pay my respects.
Even if that did happen, how much would you bet that she would take the losses like a champ because she's rich, and she'd believe that she's making progress and that the loss of money is just because bad people won't watch it
Clerks made that argument about the Death Star back in 1994 and it still stands: any contractor who worked on that Death Star knew the risks and it’s their fault if they got killed. A good contractor listens to his heart, not his wallet.
The Death Star was inspired by battleships in World War 2. The idea that hitting an enemy battleship is "bad" because "what if there were good guys on it?" Is preposterous
Swear Disney is like that one kid, trying to cram a square shaped block into a triangle slot.. over and over again. While wondering why it won’t work….
It's definitely a misnomer. People are welcome to join any hobby if they want to partake in it. But the truth is not everyone will have an interest in, say, crocheting. Crocheting is not for me and I'm secure in that and don't want to get into it.
@@SamtheBravesFan but that's only a partial analogy. What they're really doing is actually having an interest in crocheting because it's cool, but they don't like to use crochet hooks. So they decide that the proper way to crochet is to use socket wrenches instead, and they change the way crocheting is done so that you can do it with socket wrenches, and then make everybody who already crochets switch over to using socket wrenches. Maybe it still works for some people, but it's no longer crocheting.
I just want to throw out that the scene of the Jedi guy unrobed was more hypocritical than disturbing. As a woman, I don't want to see unnecessary nudes of women, but I don't want to see it of men either - ESPECIALLY since it's somehow not considered wrong when it's a naked guy. Can you imagine nowadays if it was a topless woman on that scene, and men became excited? Male gaze! Oh no! It's misogyny some how. So hypocritical.
There’s so much “two opposite wrongs, make a right” type thinking, instead of moving beyond historical “bad” gender tropes. I noticed a lot of that in Barbie too.
"...maybe to increase their female market share..." Which is ironic because Disney first bought Marvel and Lucasfilm because they were concerned they were too much of a "girl brand" with their focus on Disney Princesses. How times have changed.
I recall their acquisition of male IPs to be aimed at gaining a male audience, due to their other primarily princess based properties. However, they didn't have to do anything special with Star Wars, to have their cake and eat it too... They had Princess Leia and Princess Padme, and probably Princess Cara (there are hints she was related to the Organa family in some way, and she was from Alderan.) This whole concept of shunning their male dominated fan base, in favor of smaller "less represented" groups, is mind boggling from any sensible perspective that assumes they're in business, and only takes on some form of reason when you see it from the lens described in this video above.
It's not just a mistake. He twice said Anakin blew up the Death Star. He has zero knowledge of star wars, thus shouldn't be anywhere near a star wars production.
I laughed out loud thinking of Greg sitting through the drudgery that is Rebel Moon, looking for something interesting to do, Googling wheat harvesting, its refining for food, how much wheat in loaf of bread, etc. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
At this point, the IP would have to be sold to a different company that appreciates it. It's apparent the people running the current one don't and never will. Even a turnaround wouldn't bring me back as long as Disney has it. They dislike the old fans so much, they can get bent.
I don't think it would take that long for me to come back. All it would take is maybe one or two shows and one or two good movies reviewed by people I trust to get me to come back
It would require starting from scratch, with people who have a passion for the property, and about fifteen years to forget the dreck that was 'not for us.' Do we require fifteen years of nothing? No, getting fifteen years of good content would help us to forget.

You should watch the clone wars show together and you will see it really good stuff, the space battles and all the awesome ships and droids and weapons are just so cool. Clone wars is more about the soldiers and war and politics than the other stuff and its filled with action
Aside from its massive weapon, the Death Star also hosted children's daycare centers, retirement homes for elderly Sith, a garden run by lesbians that produced organic vegetables, a bunny farm, and a reasonably priced Starbucks, so yes blowing it up was pure evil! Bad Anakin is bad!

As a woman i HATE that those people think that i would watch a bad written (and shot!) show that just has more female screen time. Like, who cares? Not me! Its far more disrespectful to us, thinking that we just need "representation" to enjoy something and not a good storytelling. I also hate this idea that you can only associate yourself with a character that has your gender, orientation, race etc. Like, no???? Its good having more people that are not white men in cinema, but i can perfectly associate myself and feel seen if a male character has my problems, temperament, emotions. Or just something that i can understand. At this point i don't care who the character is. It becomes just a good character. And you know, I don't even have to understand and associate myself with a character to enjoy it.
Yeah, it's always seemed like a very insulting attitude for Disney and others to assume that the female audience is so shallow that they only care about seeing reflections of themselves instead of being intellectually or emotionally stimulated by what is happening on screen. Tells you a lot about the people making this crap, they really ARE that shallow
Agreed. I didn't need to be a parent or a woman to relate to Sarah Connor. I didn't need to be a Mexican to empathize with Miguel Rivera from _Coco._ And I've always said that Connor Kenway from _Assassin's Creed III_ is literally me, despite myself not being Mohawk or Native American at all. If you need a character to look exactly like you before you could relate to their personality and struggles, guess what? That makes you a narcissist and a sociopath.
This is one reason they'll never understand fiction, fantasy, science fantasy, super hero stories, anything with non-human characters... they lack empathy, and "need" to "see themselves" in the characters...
Two things with the door droid hacking scene. Why recruit an accomplice to alert the droid first, when she could have just stuck the stupid device on it at any time without even talking to it? Second, if such devices exist, then why would a Jedi Temple or a Hutt crime palace use that as their only security system? Top notch story telling.

Yep, exactly. When the show was announced and the only article available was Leslie talking about how her queerness would get into the writing, it was obvious.
Nevermind claiming it was Anakin, he makes this equivalence between Darth Vader (and the Empire, who blew up Alderaan and oppressed a galaxy) and the destruction of a massive battlestation filled with enemy soldiers. I'd hate to hear this guy's thoughts on Hiroshima.
Not Hiroshima. Auschwitz. The crew of the Death Star directly blew up Alderaan. It was a military station, there were no civilians aboard. The people of Hiroshima didn't directly kill anyone -- it was an industrial and manufacturing town. The better comparison is Auschwitz. He is saying the Allied soldiers who liberated Auschwitz are just as bad as the -z who worked there because they killed the -z to do it.
Every time I hear an actor saying the director listened to them I know we are in trouble. Unless the actor is a someone of status with tons of experience, actors don't need to be listened to because they aren't writers.
Everyone has an example of an actor ad-libbing and improving a scene (sticking with Harrison Ford, the swordsman scene in Lost Ark), but a director shouldn't be "malleable." A director's ONLY job is to be the unmoving center point that everyone else revolves around. If they aren't that, then they aren't THE director.
After Ahsoka ruined any possibility of a slingshot around to Heir to the Empire, I'm basically numb and indifferent. The Acolyte so far is just puerile and annoying. It makes me wonder about the demise of competence, and what kind of business Disney thinks it's in. And to paraphrase the Iron Lady, the problem with pandering is that you run out of other people's money to do it with. Pandering and virtue don't pay the bills. But Disney has NO VIABLE PRODUCT at the moment, not big screen anyway. It's a mystery. Much more of a mystery than this dopey show.
Disney has always been at the leading edge of customer service and how to bring in new customers. You would think the business people at Disney would know that it costs 5 times more to aquire a new customer then it takes to retain an exisiting customer. I am so fed up with this "we will bring in new people". That means aquiring two new cusomers, one for each fan lost and a new one to grow the market.
"Wokeness really is a philosophy of envy and revenge". If that is not the absolute best description of the woke, I don't know what is. All of these "woke shows" just FEEL like an expensive "suck it!" aimed right at us each and every time they get a new show to ruin.
I truly believe not even Grace Randolph expected good things. I mean, she's still shilling for it, but I want to believe that deep in her soul she does know it's awful
Can we also take a moment and realise that the guy who "betrayed her" was at the moment at state of mind no better than lobotomized ape? He was just woken up from, God knows how real time long, nightmare worst in the history of his entire bloodline. And it happened while the ship was being torn to pieces. He should get a hug, blanket and something warm to drink, instead of letting him guilt himself over something he had *no control* over.
It's funny how they keep saying there is no good or evil in Star Wars, and yet when you get on Disney plus you will find the acolyte show under a category that says "Good vs Evil"
It is a postmodern 'deconstruction' of the Star Wars universe. "I don't get Star Wars, so if everyone can't enjoy it equally then I will make sure no-one can!"
You know Hollywood has really forked things up when people are more excited about the prospect of seeing a mediocre show go from mediocre to truly bad in the next episode that they could ever be about the show itself.
Exactly, that is the most damning indictment of this show I can think of. I literally only want to see how bad they screw it up, because I have zero faith it gets better from here
Guy on Twitter pointed out this takes place during a time we could have had old school Yoda show up. But, NOPE. We get Leslye Headland’s wife cast as the bald, green lady. Way better than OG Yoda, am I right guys? 🤮 Wall Street Silver made the post.
I really don’t think it’s likely. I’d heard through the grape vine that whenever they use OG characters, they’re supposed to pay royalties to George Lucas. That was the explanation I heard about why they didn’t have any of the OG characters or places in the Disney Land they built for Star Wars or their billion dollar hotel.
If I had one question for George Lucas it would be when he was sure that KK lied to him when she proclaimed that they would treat the material with respect.
I honestly thought that her being a Meknik would be black slang or some shit like that, I wasn't aware that it wasn't until someone else called her that
"Disney and Kennedy know what their fanbase wants and they refuse to give it to them" is spot on. Though, I think that was a George Lucas problem after the original trilogy, as well. The Disney team, at this point, has taken an openly vengeful approach to the franchise's long time fans. There's no other motive--they aren't gaining new fans, they aren't making money, they are making "a point." It's pretty wild.
"No Revan for you!" I think you meant "Thank fuck no Revan, do not come anywhere close, Disney!" except Harvey's assistant already said she wants to do a KOTOR show. So, we're getting a black lesbian obese wheelchair-bound they/thems Revan for sure. You just had to jinx it, didn't you?
The Jedi being "corrupt" in some form is an idea that I think Star Wars really needs to address, given it is embedded into the very core of the narrative, but almost no-one is willing to actually do so honestly. There is a difference between nuance and contrarianism, and most people either die on the hill that the Jedi were always the "good guys" or they'd rather die than admit they were ever good at all. The entire prequel trilogy, which itself is the foundation for the entire star wars series narratively, was trying to convey the idea of a flawed Jedi order. It was showing that the Jedi are basically Spartans from Halo; children taken from an extremely young age, psychologically conditioned to believe and think the way that they 'should', and trained as warriors. The Jedi order very explicitly was restrictive and, while noble in intention, was always supposed to be flawed and morally dubious at times. The Sith mirrored the morally dubious execution, but flipped the noble intentions on their head. The Jedi were essentially driven by stoic ideals, but faced the issue that it's hard to induce stoicism in people which lead to cases like Anakin where Palpatine, through pretending to be a supportive father-like figure, was able to coerce him. In other words they were defined by legitimately virtuous stoic ideals, but always walked the line between stoicism and repression. When you try to impose the idea of virtuous self sacrifice onto others, is it really "self" sacrifice, or is it you sacrificing on their behalf? The original trilogy was about rediscovering the Jedi order and bringing back the righteous peace keepers of ages past, and the prequel trilogy was about investigating the flaws in the allegedly flawless Jedi order which made it fall in the first place. However, the prequels also kinda sucked and the original trilogy didn't, so you got split fanbase of people who either A : forgot the prequels entirely and see the Jedi as pure-good against the pure-evil Sith, or B : leaned too far into the prequels entirely and forgot that the Jedi were still stupposed to be good overall. It would be like if a bridge collapsed due to structural failures, and then half of the population remained convinced that it was still perfectly sturdy and standing and the other half of the population remained convinced it never stood in the first place. Now those two sets of people have to work together to build a new bridge believing both that the old flawed design is perfect and still standing, *_and_* that it was so horrible it never worked in the first place. You're never going to get a good bridge from these people working together because they're *_both_* wrong and neither understand the dynamics at play. George Lucas for his, admittedly significant flaws when it came to understanding some things, was willing to approach topics with nuance. However, now that it's , "nuance" is being conflated with simple contrarianism and that false equivalency is being abused by people to tell the story they want to tell, even if it doesn't actually make any sense.
Well said. The Jedi were never corrupt. They were always "the good guys." Maybe they failed to change with the times, or simply failed to recognize that the times were changing and they were being manipulated, but that doesn't even mean that they were wrong. Just short sighted, and "flawed" does not mean "evil." If there's one thing that George got right about the prequels, it's the larger themes and subtle nuanced concepts at play. Unfortunately, the writing, dialog, character work, and storytelling were so bad that everyone assumed that there was nothing to discuss about them (maybe rightly so). A lot of those themes and nuances just fade into the background.
Yes! This subtle line is so hard to walk for many writers who want to bludgeon their audience one way or another. Another story that does this well is (shocking) Wheel of Time with its White Tower of female magic users. They divide themselves into seven colored groups, but there is an eighth group, a black group that works for The Dark One. No one in the tower will acknowledge that the black group exists and deals harshly with anyone who suggests it. Their belief that it is IMPOSSIBLE for one of them to turn to the dark is exactly what allows so many black sisters to exist. Their rigid rules are exactly what he enemy uses to turn many of them. It’s such a cool idea to explore how being too rigid makes you brittle, but being too flexible might be corrupting in its own way, like you allow too much bad to happen in the name of being flexible. Instead, Headland went with “Jedi corrupt cops”. Sigh, we’re doomed.
@@gregowen2022 OFC there's room for an "Eddard Stark"(inflexible "Lawful Good") view of the Jedi. But corruption? Corruption implies a change of state or fundamental nature, not the disadvantages of a steady state. Star Wars *needs* "Good vs Evil". Corruption of Good _must_ lead inevitably to the Dark Side. The "grey area" is occupied by the likes of Han Solo. And there's room in Star Wars for "grey area to Good/Bad" stories & "no Jedi, no Sith" stories). OFC The Acolyte can't do this. As per your explanation of its true themes, The Acolyte is not a Star Wars story. They wanted "Big" characters, but _not_ the Star Wars versions (Jedi and Sith), because they don't work in a story about moral relativism (plus some incidental repression of their modern enemies /lol). So "old-school" Star Wars fans "forced them" to corrupt Star Wars in order to "do the right thing for humanity" :) The Acolyte will certainly contribute to the good of humanity. But not in the way its creators intend.
I wouldn't go so far as to say they were corrupt. I would say that having built their temple on Coruscant atop an ancient Sith site allowed the emperor to cloud their otherwise strong connection to the force and their ability to sense its will. Since the point of the Jedi was to carry out the will of the force, maintaining balance (no, not equal dark and light... GL said the dark was always imbalance, and bringing balance to the force was destroying the sith. The light side is Always balanced on its own.). Over the years, perhaps due to prophesies and visions, they became overly strict and overly cautious in regards to their rules and regulations. They allowed fear of Jedi students turning to the dark side, to influence their decisions. They decided that they had to start training new Jedi at an age early enough that they never formed "attachments" that they would fear losing. They limited relationships that Jedi were allowed to have. There was no evil or corrupt intention here, just way too much caution and fear. In practice, the Jedi order is not evil. It's not great, but it's not evil. By the time of the movies, they had become respected as peace keepers, but not cops. They were held in so high regard and were so skilled, that they were asked to do things by the Republic's leadership. This inherently lead to involvement in politics... and since they couldn't really see or feel clearly what the will of the force was, they defaulted to keeping peace, assuming maintaining peace in the republic is what the force would want them to do. They allowed themselves to become tools of the political entities... and the emperor had been weaseling his way into control of the political powers, and by proxy, the Jedi themselves. The final manipulation of creating the war with the separatists, turning the Jedi into generals in a war, and usurping the power of the entire republic sealed the emperor's victory over the old Jedi order as they knew it, culminating in Order66. It seems Jedi that spent more time off Coruscant, like Qui Gon, had a closer relationship with the will of the force, and his actions against the will of the Jedi Council was more in line with following the will of the force, as a proper Jedi should have done.
The character itself does have an arc:
Starting out on a quest to avenge her brother's murder, earning glory but being so obsessed and insecure about her mission that she won't give up and find peace, making tons of mistakes and alienating everyone around her with her selfish obsession and then ultimately paying with the consequence of her rearming the one she swore to destroy.

Amen! Completely agree. It's absolutely insane.
It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off.
It’s not a business strategy, it’s cultural mark schism: destroy the icons of the old culture.

Isn't it at least a little grey to have to kill hundreds of thousands of slave soldiers who literally never had a choice. And before the Death Star actually fired, it is unclear as to how many people on it actually knew it was a planet killer and not just a mobile base.
True. I can only imagine how badly they would screw up Revan, and they don't have the balls to make HK47

Skywalker blows up the death star: the empire is obviously evil
Anakin blows up the death star: maybe the empire isn't so bad after all?

But now that I’m no longer a five-year-old I realize pretty much any of those prisoners would’ve been willing to die so that the death star wouldn’t be able to kill more planets.
They chose to be there. The death star was also a massive troop transport
You think a storm troopers knows how to install a toilet?
I don't think workers had any choice or saying on accepting nor rejecting working there. Also I think George Lucas never wrote it that way thinking in the innocent workers.
Ok, maybe the workers were simply droids, and the only living beings were full imperials.
Is that from Clerks? I haven't seen it in twenty years but it seems familiar.

The thing that all these people seem to miss with the Death Star is that LUKE killed about a million COMBATANTS. By blowing up Alderaan, the empire killed 2 billion civilians. Those two things aren’t even close to comparable
Exactly. It's the same as attacking Tirpitz.
That a very good, very scary point. This push for moral relativity on children is disgusting.
that's probably very true however how will those kids ever watch something their parents won't take them to see right? that's the problem Disney is going to have in today's culturally divided world. sure they may catch it on tv once it comes out but that just mean they are losing more money to reeducate children on tv. that'll be some thing that they can afford for only so long.
@@gregowen2022Moral Relativity isn't moral at all.
Endured the first two eps. The biggest sin any kind of sci-fi can commit is that it's boring. The only reason we're discussing it (like you said) is because its Star Wars. Star Wars is officially dead. Just waiting for the funeral to take place so I can pay my respects.
Youre a bit late, it was 100% over when disney acquired it, back when they copied a new hope scene for scene.
There won't be a funeral if people keep rewarding them by boosting viewership numbers!

The Death Star was inspired by battleships in World War 2. The idea that hitting an enemy battleship is "bad" because "what if there were good guys on it?" Is preposterous

I noticed a lot of that in Barbie too.
thanks for the honest comment. I appreciate it coming from a woman
"...maybe to increase their female market share..." Which is ironic because Disney first bought Marvel and Lucasfilm because they were concerned they were too much of a "girl brand" with their focus on Disney Princesses. How times have changed.
A leopard can’t change her spots.
I recall their acquisition of male IPs to be aimed at gaining a male audience, due to their other primarily princess based properties.
However, they didn't have to do anything special with Star Wars, to have their cake and eat it too... They had Princess Leia and Princess Padme, and probably Princess Cara (there are hints she was related to the Organa family in some way, and she was from Alderan.)
This whole concept of shunning their male dominated fan base, in favor of smaller "less represented" groups, is mind boggling from any sensible perspective that assumes they're in business, and only takes on some form of reason when you see it from the lens described in this video above.
It's not just a mistake. He twice said Anakin blew up the Death Star. He has zero knowledge of star wars, thus shouldn't be anywhere near a star wars production.

Palpatine put the Jedi in a position where they’d never been before, using war and politics to corrupt them along with Anakin.
Even if they fired every creative in Lucas Film, it would take a minimum of six years to regain lost fans.
At this point, the IP would have to be sold to a different company that appreciates it. It's apparent the people running the current one don't and never will. Even a turnaround wouldn't bring me back as long as Disney has it. They dislike the old fans so much, they can get bent.
That's generous.
I don't think it would take that long for me to come back. All it would take is maybe one or two shows and one or two good movies reviewed by people I trust to get me to come back
They would also have to wipe out all leadership roles, this is a total failure from the top down, company wide failure
It would require starting from scratch, with people who have a passion for the property, and about fifteen years to forget the dreck that was 'not for us.' Do we require fifteen years of nothing? No, getting fifteen years of good content would help us to forget.
I thought it was a slip up until I saw him say it multiple times. Definitely not a slip up.

You just had to jinx it, didn't you?
1:46, Ryan George will be able to do that. (I have no doubt he’ll make a Pitch Meeting on this.)
You're right about all of this
Not sure if Disney is going to include competent writers but still
Well said. The Jedi were never corrupt. They were always "the good guys."
Maybe they failed to change with the times, or simply failed to recognize that the times were changing and they were being manipulated, but that doesn't even mean that they were wrong.
So "old-school" Star Wars fans "forced them" to corrupt Star Wars in order to "do the right thing for humanity" :)
The Acolyte will certainly contribute to the good of humanity.
Only in 2024 can you be the personal assistant to a predator then become a Star Wars show runner.
Disney stock is down 27% from 5 years ago, keep the boycott going people, it works.
It doesn't work, though. They're still doing it. They're doubling down, in fact.
As a gen x woman, I have never felt attacked by star wars fans until disney/kennedy.
