Hi everyone, hope you found this video on Macbeth themes useful! The last two themes of Masculinity and Cruelty and Kingship vs Tyranny will be coming out next!
I found the last interpretation of the themes in the play to be too Dostoyevskian, in similar vain as Crime and Punishment. I would think that the correct interpretation of all tragedies must lie in the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. The moral interpretation of the play is of a Christian character. Tragedies are older than Christianity, therefore their fundamental value is non-Christian. I would interpret it thus, they felt guilt because their murder was not well thought through, after the crime was done, they knew they would get caught. Natural law dictates not that murder is wrong, natural law dictates that murdering the wrong person in a wrong way is wrong. The king had sons and allies that could easily take revenge upon him, that was Macbeth's mistake and the reason why Macbeth felt guilt after killing him.
