    Winter Schedule
    Our schedule may vary, but expect a new video every Wednesday and Saturday at 11AM Central!
    How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
    Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
    These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
    How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

    Hannah: "Really? It's none of their damned business!"
    Ryan: "Welcome to the internet."

    The cactus stands for dry. If you turn it on (and put the middle dial for the heat as hot as you want/ can bear) it dehumidifies the cab rapidly and so clears the fog of the windows within minutes. For this function the AC and heat are on toghether.
    When you just want heat turn the middle dial to hot and leave the AC and cactus off.
    When you want AC press just the ac button and turn the middle dial to cold.

    Doesn't the cactus button let you run the ac while the heat is on to remove moisture from the cab..keep the windows from foggin up?

  • @buckhorncortez
    @buckhorncortez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    From the John Deere website:
    Symptoms
    Cannot find information on what the "cactus" setting does and it is difficult to get the cab to warm up.
    Summary
    The air condition switch has three settings: "snowflake," "cactus," and "Off" (middle position).
    Solution Steps
    The “snowflake” symbol setting cools down the cab in relation to the temperature control switch, and dries the air. The "cactus"symbol setting is used to dry the air in the cab. The cactus setting will help defog the windows but it will also reduce heat in the cab significantly. If heating the cab is a problem, keep the air conditioning switch in the off (middle position) to shut off the compressor.

    • @lukestrawwalker
      @lukestrawwalker 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's sort of what I figured... "cactus" is "dehumidify/defrost/defog the windows... snowflake is just pure AC, which pulls moisture out of the air via condensation on the evaporator, which runs down the drip line out of the tractor. "Cactus" dries the air by cooling the evaporator via the AC compressor (turning on the AC to get the coil cold enough to condense water out of the air, dehumidifying it, while also running the heater core to warm the air back up-- like a vehicle defroster... course it's hard to heat the cab with the AC going, so switching to "heat" turns off the AC compressor so the heater is more efficient, BUT moisture starts to build up over time. If the windows start to fog up, hit the "cactus" switch for a few minutes to pull the moisture out of the cab interior air...
      Waiting for them to reenact the "hand on the steamed up window" scene from TItanic LOL:) OL J R :)

    6320 is a good tractor but seems under powered. We have one for bailing and it struggles on the hills. We have moved to the Kubota M7. So far, we have been very pleased with the M7-131. Transmission is a little noisier but I have to say the ride is quite nice. Once we find a 6130r for the right price we will sell of the 6320. We are nothing more than hobby farmers that toy with the farming game from year to year. We’ve had most luck with alfalfa production than crops in years past. I guess I have to say we are employed wannabe farmers that farm part time on the side... love the videos, brother! Keep working hard!

    A possible explanation of the "cactus button" ("C" switch)
    When switch (C) is activated, the air-conditioning operates without
    regard to ambient temperature. This is necessary in winter, when the
    air-conditioning has to be operated once a month, and when the system
    has to be operated in conjunction with the heater to dehumidify the cab.

    Thanks.

    • @HowFarmsWork
      @HowFarmsWork  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’re corn stalks

    • @lukestrawwalker
      @lukestrawwalker 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Soybeans are cut off right at ground level, or as close to the ground as possible... they make pods of beans clear down to the ground in some varieties, though selective breeding means they usually start podding a little further up the plants compared to old varieties. Still, they're harvested with a flex head sicklebar that snip them off usually no more than 2 inches above the ground, and usually about 1 inch high... so basically the entire plant goes through the combine, although the leaves have already naturally fallen off by harvest time, so it's mostly stems and branches and pods... The combine tosses whatever is left out the back of the chopper.
      Corn, on the other hand, is picked by a corn head usually run a few inches to about a foot off the ground, so that the ears (which are halfway up the stalk) hit the stripping plates in the head about in the middle of their length to snap the ears off the stalks. The stalks get crushed and usually break off where the stalk rollers pinch and mash them as the top of the stalk is crushed and pulled down through the rollers (and sometimes chopped depending on the types of stalk rollers, or if the head is equipped with choppers underneath to cut the stalks off closer to the ground and chop up the crushed stalks coming down through the rollers). SO usually there is "tall" stubble left in a corn field anywhere from about 4-6 inches tall to about 2 feet tall, depending on the type of corn head used to pick the corn and the height of the ears from the ground when it was harvested... where a bean field will be "clean shaven" rather than the raggedy look of a picked over corn field...
      Later! OL J R :)

      Pretty sure over the summer she said she was a Junior, she was also wearing a High School Sweatshirt that said 2016-2020. Could be wrong, but still. People need to leave the girl alone. Some of the comments made to Jamie were downright disgusting.

    Masseys and case are the same with the shuttle as far as I know. The jd I used for my test 6320 it wouldn’t drive if you put the shuttle in gear first. I thought 6430’s were more than 120hp as the 6320 is 130 from factory

      Bernie Watts aye 6320’s are usually 100hp and 6430’s I thought are around the 130/135hp no 120hp but this 6320 is different as it’s a standard chassis but with all the bells and whistles with 30 more hp but never been tweaked
