I’ve completed 6 FD batches and my freeze dryer has never operated for over 22 hours. I’ve done raw eggs and cooked ground beef twice, ham and brownies. I do pre-freeze my food. I’ve numbered each of my five trays. After the initial drying process, I weigh each tray and return it to the machine for another two hours. If a tray weighs less next time, I add an extra 2 hrs drying time. I repeat the process until they weigh the same. The brownies were cooked but I did not reconstitute them. They were interesting, but I ended up giving most of them away to people who eat carbs.

I just got my HR freeze dryer two months ago and I’ve done 7 batches. I made the same mistake with the blender after the first batch of eggs! 🫤 I use a gallon freezer bag to reduce the freeze dried eggs into powder. I also learned that if I use the lids of the pans for the process, it’s much easier to get the final product into the bags. It’s also easier to clean up. I also don’t store the eggs in court jars anymore as I had one implode (explode?)! Giant mess. I took my first batch of eggs with me to Tennessee over Christmas, along with some ground beef that I freeze dried on my second batch. My host had a big party planned, and I could not use their refrigerators. Reconstituting the beef took longer, but I cooked both products together and they were awesome. Now that I feel more confident on my freeze drying, I’m putting the products in mylar bags.

As always, for you, this - is - epic! So well done. So easy to follow and tips and tricks for next time. I'm going to view the '6 things' first.
    Well done!

Thank you. I just got mine and it's not on it's table yet. Clearing out that area of the basement. I can't wait! Eggs for sure. Lots of meat. and turning homemade stock and broth into powder are some of my priorities.

I just put the eggs in a gallon zip lock bag and use my rolling pin until they are powdered up, then into mylar bag with OA and into long term storage. The machine knows when the food is frozen. When I put eggs into my machine it goes into the freeze cycle and runs for about an hour and a half then goes onto the dry cycle. I never put my frozen food into the freeze dryer until it is well under 32 degrees, no sense on having my frozen food cooling down the freeze dryer. It takes around an hour for it to get under 32 but it is well worth the wait. If you put it in after the 15 minutes it is like putting it on the counter if the machine is not under 32. Sometimes I forget and it get down to 15 degrees, but I don't sweat the small stuff. When I reconstitute I use cold water and a small amount of milk, stir and let sit for up to 5 minutes then whisk them smooth and cook.

we dehydrated a bunch in an Excalibur dehydrator this summer with no problems as well. 3 dozen eggs powdered will fit in to a quart jar for us. FYI, they now make an aftermarket silicon "pan" for the Excalibur that is about a half an inch tall. It worked great, of course, amazon, but really happy with the results.

I may have to get me one of those HF freeze dry machines! I have eggs coming out my ears! Started with raising 9 chickens and 5 years later I got 55 chickens!
I sale eggs too, but could use a few more customers at times. Right now many chickens are molting, so not getting as many eggs daily right now! I’ve added a few ducks and geese to my group of animals I take care of. So now I’m getting duck and geese eggs too!
I’ve seen other ways to prolong the eggs right in their shells too! But the eggs have to be fresh laid clean eggs and not cleaned or washed! If I remember right I believe this way eggs can last a decade or so providing their stored correctly! Nice part is the eggs don’t need to be refrigerated after this process is finished. There’s also video of this process on TH-cam too! I’m assuming it would work well duck and geese eggs also!
I tried my first duck eggs the other day scrambled and I personally couldn’t tell any difference from a chicken egg. Other people say they can tell a different thought! Heard the duck or geese eggs are good for baking with? I’ll try that too soon!
Kind of funny, since I was never much for eating eggs! But that was store bought eggs! My own fresh egg right out of the nesting box taste so much better than store bought. Even the egg yolks are a different color! More orange than the store’s yellow yolks! Soiled now, no more store bought eggs for me! 😂

Something I saw in another TH-camr’s video (Haxman) was that they prefroze the eggs in quart sized bags and then put them on the trays. They were able to fit more per tray and cleanup was easier since the wet food never touched the trays. Hope that helps. Go check him out! He’s had the same freeze dryer for a while now!

I do 18 large eggs per tray (my own eggs, not sure why you purchased eggs to try this, unless to just make a video?), pre freeze, no parchment and they come out of the trays amazingly, I do work quickly, not to let them get any humidity and seal ASAP. I have some in milar, some in jars. I know which to use first.

Guy at my local coop was telling me about these a year or so back. He said I have orders I can't fill, and at 25 it's a steal.
Lmao I said 25? Put me down for one, he said you have to leave a $500 deposit for me to order,
I said for a $25 dollar freeze dryer?
He just laughed and told me to get out

What did you do with all the egg shells.??

    • @chrispaulus4491
      @chrispaulus4491 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I dry mine out, pulverize them into a powder, and then add vinegar to turn them into calcium acetate. Then I can either add water 10:1 to use as a fertilizer or reduce it by reheating it and add a high percentage alcohol (>70%) to create a sterno gel. I have succeeded with tested the latter. 😏 I tried, adding the powdered egg shells to the compost, but it doesn’t break down very well in any reasonable amount of time.

Good quality mylar bag, vacuum seal + oxygen absorber seems like the way to go
