Honestly, I think this is the best because she really doesn't seem to get enjoyment out of it like the song says. Most versions you see have them all peppy, even when she's supposed to be bored. This is amazing and deserves every freaking thumbs up it can get. You go girl!!
@@OptimusPhillip That's a cool perspective too! I just get tired seeing peppy-and-proud Marcy's, because that's contrary to her character. I highkey want to see the angry performance you reference.
I like how in this version she actually sounds bored, like she is actually “sick and tired of always being the best”, and that she “gets no real enjoyment” from winning

I’m embarrassed to say how many times over the years I’ve come back and watched this video. It’s the definitive version of this song for me. Just the best.
Same. Honestly, I just now remembered the song and went to listen to the song on the soundtrack and it just... wasn't it for me. Had to come back to this specific video.
Hazel Grey this comment is killing me. Firstly, she doesn’t speak Latin. That line is in Spanish. Next, you forgot that she speaks Japanese in this song. NEXT, she doesn’t speak German, that’s the ensemble.
I've been watching one of the many productions of Putnam here the utoob and I just got through a ...less stellar performance of this song. I had to quickly go find another to sooth my soul. Thank you Lili Thomas for your wonderful portrayal of Marcy. I think you speak 7 languages, you forgot to mention the language of great theater.
This is a very good performance and this shows what Marcy Parks character really should be acted out as. Another thing I like about this performance is that all her moves are on beat. Like her even coming out of the door is on beat, and on point! I know this is thirteen years late but good job👍🏿 Hands down best performance I’ve seen!

Oh, my god. I come here looking for another lousy song some 5th grader is singing, and I'm treated to a wonderful, amazing renedition. I MUST MEET THIS GIRL! REPLAY!
In the local production of Spelling Bee that me and my friends are doing, my girlfriend sings this song and she likes it which is cool. But I really have to say, the fact that this song, which introduces who she is as a character, and Jesus, the song where she essentially exits the play, are back to back (as in there are 4 lines of dialogue between them) is really the greatest example of how little this play value's it's characters. Marcy does not do anything of note until those two songs, which might as well be considered one song, then she is booted out of the play. And of course Marcy also has the same message behind her character as all the other children, especially Logainne who gets way more development. I guess they really needed two extra songs.
In one of the versions of this that I have seen, the video ends with them all hoisting her up and setting up a wooden board on bricks, and she karate chops it in half.
@cathythedisasterx In my school's production, the girl playing Marcy went over to the band playing, pushed the pianist off the seat, and played the music xD
@weezel365 They do exsist. We have on in our production, she is asian too. Some of the others that tried out could do things like pogo and jump rope at the sametime and play instruments. some of them did speak multiple languages, and lacrosse.
@weezel365 If you're really trying to put on a great show and people are truly dedicated to it it's not difficult. With just weeks of rehearsal my school's Marcy, a blonde little sweetheart of a freshman, learned all her parts, was able to do cartwheel across the stage, twirl a baton, and play a flute.
As a trumpet player, my only thoughts on this rendition are that they shouldn't have had her play the trumpet at the end unless she could achieve a real good tone on it, as Marcy obviously would have to have in real life. If you didn't play the trumpet before this show I have to say, for how long you had to learn you were rather impressive.
In a way, I don't think she would have had to be so good at it though. Although she displays the versatility, I think the matter of fact is that she is overwhelmed. She is obligated to be able to do anything. Of course, she has to be the best, but I believe the "best" is relative. Not many other "kids" could do half of what she can. If everything was perfect, it would be difficult for the audience to be convinced that these characters are real children with relatable struggle. Actually, the less than polished sound actually makes this funnier!
I’m abt to go perform this song. Any tips for choreo or ways I can do it without choreo and still make it good? I haven’t practiced choreo it was sorta last minute ...
i feel like this is the most accurate version. she has no enjoyment and shows a resentment towards how she is expected to be good at everything. I feel like this most accurately portrays the "overachieving asian" plight of a gifted student stretched too thin by expectation. Her lack of emotion is indicative of someone whose emotions have never been taken into account. I hate all the other versions because of how peppy they usually are when the character is supposed to be annoyed with her situation.
I love this version of the song because she is bored and that's who Marcy is.
So unfazed is she

gosh i wish my school woudlve done this

This performance has set the bar, the standard Marcy should be. Simply, this is the best performance of Marcy.
