    I have made a number of hats using this tutorial, so thanks so much for that! I was working on trying something a little different on this last hat- doing a couple of rows in a different color- but I get like a diagonal line where the two rows don't quite match up. Any suggestions on how to make that look a little cleaner? Or would your tutorial be more just for a single colored project?

    • @donnabecreates
      @donnabecreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you enjoy making this hat! I would say this is more for one color (or skein) of yarn which could be a solid color or variegated or stripes, etc. If you want to use different colors, don't do continuous rounds, but make each round individually - chaining 2 or 3 at the beginning of each round, then join with a slip stitch to the top of the ch 2 or 3 at the end of each round. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching and take care!

    can you please help me? I tried a different beanie pattern recently, and it had me slip stitch 'into the top stitch of the end of each round' and then chain two, and then begin that same pattern of double crochet stitches that you are doing. Afterwards, I had a weird seam where the slip stitches were going through my hat. why did that happen and why did the pattern have me do that? i'm so frustrated

    • @donnabecreates
      @donnabecreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello...you can slip stitch at the end of a row, then chain two (or three) to start the next row. It does make kind of a diagonal slant seam up thru the hat. You can especially see it when you are using yarns that change colors....like cakes. That is why I came up with this pattern, so there is no seam. But either way will work. Hope this helps! Thank you for watching!

    • @donnabecreates
      @donnabecreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Instead of the crab stitch, do 2 double crochets in each stitch around. Then the next row do 1 (or 2 again) in each double crochet around.

    Hi! Would you still use a J size hook for a hat to fit a man, or add more stitches at the beginning? Thanks!

    • @donnabecreates
      @donnabecreates  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These hats fit my husband. But if you need to make it bigger you could try a K hook or I would still use a J hook and yes add more stitches at the beginning. I would start with 12 (add 2 more dc in the first round). Then maybe add a row or two of the hdc. You may need more than 1 skein of yarn. Thanks for watching!

    Why do you use a J hook when it calls for an L hook?

    • @donnabecreates
      @donnabecreates  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I want the end result to be dense, thick and warm. If you are a tight crocheter, you may want to go up a hook size. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Donna. My hat circumference only got to about 5 inches when I got to 50 stitches. I increased again to 60 stitches and it's not quite 7 inches. I must crochet tightly. If I increase again, the crown will be too big. Any ideas? I'm new to this. Thank you!

    • @gracestramiello1446
      @gracestramiello1446 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually closer to 5.75 at 50 stitches

    • @donnabecreates
      @donnabecreates  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Grace! Just double checking-are you using #5 bulky weight yarn and a J crochet hook? If so, I would go up a hook size, try a K, if still too small try a L hook. Other thing you could do is start with 12 stitches instead of 10, increase as normal - your 2nd round would have 24 sts., 3rd - 36, 4th - 48, 5th - 60. Let me know if this helps. Thanks for watching my video.
