People always talk about the golden generation of England football and euro 08 probably would have been their best year imo as Chelsea and united were probs the 2 best teams in europe at the time and had a host of England players in them. My team for England at that time:

However....Where were Terry, Ferdinand, G.Neville, Hargreaves, Rooney and Owen in 2008? Were they ALL injured? Could ANY International Team {even the likes of Spain, Germany or Brazil} cope with the loss of that many First Team Starters?
Plus Scott Carson was atrocious and Croatia had a d@mn good side back then! They really were the best of the rest at the time once you remove Previous Euro and World Cup winning Countries AND better than Uruguay, Greece and Denmark in 08 too!
