4:59 and 7:24 all but 1 plug in each of the time frame looks extremely lean, I also agree to much compression for boost.

Appreciate the content and as you know, there is no better feeling than overcoming an issue and succeeding. It feels so much better than if everything worked perfect the first time. Thank you

I say put ring Gap and head studs in that 5.3 throw your cam in if it don't have that stuff.
Throw it in and go racing. I have seen alot of bigger bore combos pushing alot of boost just fine. I don't think it's the block or heads unless your head studs aren't holding good enough but I wouldn't think that.
How tight did you torque them down? I'm not sure what the limitation is on ls9 gaskets.

I agree with Mark G comment below....Those dome pistons have to much compression with 17 lbs of boost without oringing. i would get the block decked and put some flat tops in there or oring the heads or block. I would also have the injector flow tested for the cylinder that had the problem to be sure that is not contributing to a random lean on that cylinder

I just went through a bunch of bs with a cracked block deep into the #6 cylinder boss for the bolt. when you pull the heads check break away torque just for sh*ts. that's how we found our issue. good luck i have faith you will figure it out!

Maybe to much cylinder pressure, or a flaw in the block. High compression with boost, and timing/fuel pressure may up the cylinder pressure to make it pop at that boost level. Im local and hope to see this thing rocking this summer, stevin is the man and hopefully your two brains can make it happen! The no quit attitude is where its at. Good luck to you.

The deck surface of the head wasn’t as much of a issue as the deck surface of the block is , the head gasket failed on the block side , not the head side , check the deck surface on the block , bet $ it’s sketchy

That’s a bummer! I have a bar that I machined and surface ground perfectly flat to check the deck and head surfaces. Curious to see if the block was hurt in that area from the previous failure.

Maybe try a copper head gasket to see if it will hold at that psi and above. Cheaper and worth a shot vs o ringing it or time it takes to swap the whole other engine in.

  • @gavwilldo

Sce athena gaskets with the stainless fire rings held a lot better for me than the ls9 gaskets.

You may well have a problem with your new intake system.
    Air has weight.
It won't want to go around the 100 degree bend (immediately above the manifold).and exit evenly into the manifold.
As such my guess is most of the boost air will flow around the outer radius of the bend.
Because of the above the right cylinders (especialkg 4 6 and 8) are likely getting more air/boost than the rest of the engine.
You might want to try one or two splitter/turning vanes welded into the bend, to help the air turn around the bend and be more evenly distributed at it's outlet (where it meets the cast aluminum intake manifold.

I’ve had good luck with 1/2 inch head studs holding boost on high compression

  • @hartiaacres

I thought I heard other has similar issues with the LS9 on the bigger bores. There's not enough between the cylinders and they pop there. I think you truly need to go with a copper head gasket with your combo.

  • @robertchristy9883

Does that have 1/2" head studs? Is oringing the block an options? Keep plugging away, you'll get it figured out.

I'll try not to sound like a dick. lol.... That was 9 gaskets give you around 30 to 40k quench You should probably be closer to 60K. bigger head gasket will definitely help. Athena with the fire rings work great The problem with those are you have to cut the head every time you remove them because the gasket cuts into the head. And from there I would go to 1/2 head studs or the arp gold ones that a 1000$ and torque to a 100 pounds. but who the fuck has 1000$ for head studs on a 600$ motor?
