This story is so fucking beautiful. Especially. Tohru . The way her character is written is masterpiece level. The way we all think she’s the perfect person and has never been affected by anything come to find out she has trauma of her own. That is just so absolutely beautiful. I don’t even get me started on kyo or Yuki.
I don't normally watch Anime. But then my daughter stumbled upon this show on HULU. As I sat and watched it I fell more intrigued by this series. By the time of the 3rd season, we were so hooked. I even found my self either cheering, crying or at one time getting pissed off. For good reason and those who've seen it may know the moment. I was mad for good reason and the show was obvious trying to go for that emotion. I have now seen this series about 5 times. I love it so much and it's such a great show to talk about with those who have seen it. I was o lying disappointed by the ending because I just didn't want to leave this world that was built. I wanted more. But I must say, it ends very well. I cannot recommend this show enough.
Finally a female TH-camr talking about a shoujo manga /anime ,I hope even more girls comes in for the competition to define a more broader demographic,as a shounen fan myself and a male ,I want even females and shoujo to be as popular as shounen ,I love fruits basket a lot
This video got me so fucking teary-eyed dude. I remember when Fruits Basket hype was here stateside back in my middle school days, but I was *way* deep in my Narutard phase. When I was 18, I finally gave Fruits Basket a chance at the behest of one of my (now disappeared) online friends. To this day, I wish that I could still talk to the person who introduced me to Furuba so I could properly thank her for how much of an impact that recommendation had. I watched the original Studio DEEN anime first, and I fell in love immediately. The dub was so well-done, the episodes were slow but also so fucking hilarious and sincere, and it gave me an impetus to keep reading the manga. As I kept reading the manga, I became completely engrossed: it was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. I found myself identifying so intimately with both Tohru and Kyo, but I also found myself shedding so many tears for characters like Hatori, Momiji, Haru, and Rin. The ending of the manga to this day remains my all time favourite endings and I find myself eagerly recommending Furuba to anyone who never read it before. It isn't often that I come across a series that I seriously enjoyed watching and reading multiple times over, and it's even rarer still for me to come across something htat I could relate to on countless levels. Fruits Basket for me wasn't just one hell of an emotional rollercoaster - in many ways, it was also therapeutic. I don't wanna go into the minutiae of why, but let's just say that I identified with the previously mentioned characters for a LOT of reasons. I remember when I first went to Anime Expo back in 2016 and how I screamed for joy the moment I entered the LA Convention Centre and I saw a gigantic sign that said "Fruits Basket now in print! Check the Yen Press Booth for More Information!" I immediately went to the exhibition room to buy the first 2 omnibuses volumes they had. I still own those volumes to this day. I remember so well how happy and how fearful I was when I heard about the reboot, because I've always dreamt of a faithful reboot of Fruits Basket since I finished the manga all those years ago. At the same time, Funimation's recent history from 2019-onward made me hesitant that the dub would suffer. For what it's worth, Laura Bailey, Jerry Jewell, and so on aren't youngsters anymore; they're older and they can't portray teenagers/young adults like they once did. This isn't even getting into how the logistics of COVID made it really difficult to dub seasons 2 and 3. At the same time though, Furuba is the ONE modern Funimation title that I still find myself wanting to own a physical copy of. My love for Fruits Basket transcends my hatred for American distributors, and wouldn't you know that Funimation also wanted to make sure they didn't desecrate their original claim to fame. Sorry for all this rambling. It's just... been so long since I felt any genuine joy out of the medium of anime/manga as a whole.
Fruits basket is an amazing anime. Basically about a family of traumatized individuals needing help from a kind and accepting motherly figure that they never got, the opposite of Akito who rather than treating them with love and care takes out her trauma on all of them. The show basically addresses that everyone including the non zodiac members has trauma, or these childhood curses we carry with us into adult hood that bring us down. We can either face the curse head on and try and heal what hurt us or continue hiding from our traumas and keep them unresolved. And the main characters of the show finally chose to face their traumas head on and break the curse and live happy lives on their own terms despite their sad upbringings. Thats the message I take from it, you may not be able to rewrite your past but you can write your own future.
i watched the og anime in 2004 ( i was 10) and while growing up in a screwed up family, Fruits Basket was the anime that kept me sane, comforts me. i rewatched 26 episodes anually . i really mean it, anually. Up until i was 14 years old, had my own laptop and i found out about the manga with 136 chapters, it became my holy grail. I learned a lot from all char's backstories, even Tohru. Everything made sense. I guess Fruits Basket is like a therapy for us the broken ones. Fruits Basket 2019 finally gave me the satisfaction that i longed from since 10. Fruits basket change how i view people around me and the way i live my life. I have no shame of saying Honda Tohru is my role model. Fruits Basket trully inspired me. I will always go back to Fruits Basket, anytime , anywhere
Between the first anime and the reboot, i prefer the original. The cute opening, the animation, the humor and drama. There's way too much sad moments in the reboot, almost every episode which is annoying and not enough humor. I know the Soma's life is sad but to me, it's exagerated. I stoped watching it after season 2 while i saw the original more than 20 times. The 2002 anime has a special place in my heart 🥰 Also, we don't see the Soma's turned into animals that often in the 2019 version. The curse is still there and we mostly saw them as humans... that's weird 🤨
@t.ris_ THANK YOU! @Neno-zb1ci What is wrong with you? Suffering, trauma, hatred, bullying are all as real as your nose. The backstories are beautiful traumatic painful and sad. Your kind of Backstory is " I am a delinquent who everyone loves." Asking why the backstories can't be better like that for themselves is like asking bamboo to eat a panda.
@@AnwitaAshwin why u replying to a yr old comment, anyways i still think fruits basket is trash cuz its so corny in everything it tries to cover, trauma dumping =/= good writing not to mention the main villian just gets forgived for attempted mrder jand false imprisonment ust cuz she had some anger issues lol and in general it just isnt realistic abt its setting (if animal powers existed in japan the somas will NOT keep quite abt it to the govt)
@@Neno-zb1ci I mean no hate to the animanga, but I also think the backstories are corny af. Just like clannad s1. I think it's appealing to the young viewers and those who re new this type of thing.

Fruits Basket does to shojo what HxH does to shonen. It subverts the expectations we have on these respective genres.

Great analysis by the way
Thank you so much!
An excellent analysis! It seems like you read the manga, I'm so happy since season 3 cut so many scenes and story bits!
I'm very much glad I managed to find this channel in its infancy. I cannot wait to see it grow into an intellectual giant.
