Our Story:
We are five years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden organically, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our journey!

I remember one of the first things I said when I climbed on the L3901 is why does it even have 2 separate pedals you can’t use them where they are. That’s a great upgrade! Great comparison video!
I'm just glad we could get you on a real tractor on Piney Grove last year Lucas. 🤣🤣🤣
@@PineyGroveHomestead Yeah, yeah... Lol
Absolutely a wealth of knowledge Brad! I love it!
Glad to see the improvements on the L3902. Been using a friends 3901 for a few days and after 18 years on a JD, the right side brake pedals have definitely been a challenge. I keep hitting the clutch trying to stop... which obviously doesn't work too well. LOL!
I've been driving a JD shuttle shift all week and after having a Kubota hydro, I had to get used to brakes again! Thanks for watching.
Great comparison, Brad! They made some really nice improvements. I never understood having the split brakes on the same side as the treadle pedal.
Right? The only good thing about it is that we all got used to taking our foot off the HST to apply the brakes, if they were ever needed. I assume it would be an adjustment to use the left brakes on the L3902 for us seasoned Kubota owners!
I was ready to buy a 3901 then learned of the changes to the 3902 so waited until the 3902 eas was released. Glad i did! Love this tractor. Have had it 2 years and 130+ hours. By the way, if you install a 3rd function, the bucket level indicator will work on the left side too.
That tractor was back on the farm this week for another concrete pour.....it's a nice tractor for sure!
The suspension seat on the L3902 is a huge upgrade! I sat on one at my dealer and wanted to trade in my L3901. I love how Kubota will refine a product without completely starting over. If I trade I’ll be able to swap a lot of my upgrades and backhoe over. I’m building my case for the finance committee😂
I'm sure I missed a few features. Thanks for pointing that out. It was one nice tractor!!
You're the exact consumer they had in mind.
I like the improvements on the 3902, especially the brakes being moved to the left side. I agree with you.
I really wanted to try those brakes and see how tight I could spin it!

Love it! Great commentary, educational, love Piney Frove channel! Liked and Subscribed!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great compare video Brad 👍🏻, mostly cosmetic changes. Have a great week 🙋🏼♂️🙂👍🏻
Thanks Luc. I still want one!

Very informative. Great job.
Thanks for watching...we have lots of tractor videos here: th-cam.com/play/PLG5yS75HLzo3RVqEuA0f6IioXV6FtFhHW.html
Excellent overview of the different model years. Good job.
Thanks Ross. I want one!!
great video, im close to buying a l3902...thank you
They have some great improvements over the L3901. My advise would be to ensure it has enough lift capacity for things you might use the bucket/forks for and also plan on 5' implements...maybe 6' depending on what you are pulling. Thanks for watching.
nice little side by side review
Thank you....was glad to see a L3902 in person finally!
I want to let you know that the 3 button switches 2 of them still operate the same the 3rd switch is when you want to turn the pto on when you’re not sitting on the seat push the 3rd button and you can operate it from the ground just fyi great videos be safe
Thanks for watching!
If you have cruise control on the 3901 you can use the brake pedals in a similar fashion as the 3902 to make tight turns.
good point!
That was a good comparison Brad.
I am one that is and probably always will be, old school. I have the gear drive with ag tires. The most basic L series that Kubota makes. It wouldn’t surprise me if Kubota were to not even offer the gear drive in a few years. For my use in the woods , pulling up logs and tops, gear drive is the better choice. No comparison in pulling power.
Gear drive has its place. It sure is quieter!
Nah the clutch tractors are very popular still
I have that same box blade, how have you liked it so far? Have you had to replace any rippers if so where'd you get them?
The L3902 with the box blade is not ours. We have a 6' King Kutter box blade that we used in this video: th-cam.com/video/pxJtd79R1MA/w-d-xo.html
Got my 3902 a month ago.
Has 9.5 hours on it now 😅.
Bought post hole digger today and tomorrow I'm heading 5 hours north to purchase a king kutter tiller new in crate. Getting a great deal $1750. These tillers after tax run 3K.
So I'm willing to drive a 9 hour round trip to get it.
Thankfully prices have come down a lot this past year. We bought our KK 5' tiller for that same price 3 years ago!
Good comparison, I need that bucket indicator
There are many aftermarket options. We would like one, but fear we would tear it off in the woods.
I have l3800 and l3901. Treadle pedal cramps the back of my leg while doing a lot of reverse work. I wish they had gone to side-by-side.
We love the treadle! L3800 was my favorite Kubota....had two of them! Thanks for watching.
Try exercising.
Got a l3940 2011 I believe and i don't have to move the grill guard to open the hood. I have the same guard as the 3901 you have . Wonder if it was modified or more compact in the newer years?
They changed in 2015 when they went from the L3800 to the L3901.
I think it would be worth having to pay a little more for the 02. Just having the breaks on left away from the hst is worth it! I use the split breaks all the time plowing snow.
What is this snow stuff you speak of?? 🤣🤣
@@PineyGroveHomestead lol right now I don't know. We have had hardly any this winter.
Define a "little more"

Thank you!
How often do you have to regenerate the engine? does it use DEF fluid? thanks
No DEF on the L-Series Kubotas. My L3901 regens every 50 hours or so. Not a fan of all this emissions control, but my Kubota L3901 is a very clean burning tractor....not much smell or soot when it's working.
Nothing under 75hp will have an scr system
There is something awesome about a newer piece of equipment. Your due for a upgrade hahaha! Newer, Bigger, Better. My motto is go bigger or go home!😂
Agreed! Would love to have an older L4600. Dare to dream!
Great video, the L3901 PTO switch is terrible.
It is! Here's our tractor videos: th-cam.com/play/PLG5yS75HLzo3RVqEuA0f6IioXV6FtFhHW.html
What do these run $….?
$30K+ for the L3902
No way I'll ever trade my 2014 l3200 dt. Best little machine I ever owned. Kubota strong
That's a great model year. I had two 2014 L3800s over the years.....bulletproof engines with NO EMISSIONS!!
If it works for you that is al that matters. It is a 4 cylinder and I know it will use more fuel. The 3901 is what I have now. 37.5 is better than the 2501 I traded in with 222 hours on it in 3 years. When it comes to power I want the 47 HP the 4701 offers. I am waiting for the paper work to get mailed to me. I got mine from the 2nd oldest Kubota dealer in Illinois. They know their stuff. Good folks at Neimeyer Kubota, Humbolt, Illinois.
4701 is a good frame size but I don't want a turbo on my tractor. We're looking at upgrading to a cab now....it's hot in Florida!
would anyone compare this to the 2038R spec-wise?
It's more comparable to the 3038. The 2038 is smaller than these Kubota LSeries and only has a 2 range hydro transmission. A 2038 is comparable in size to a Kubota B series. I tried to cover that in this video: th-cam.com/video/WSC7T6DOTcs/w-d-xo.html
I wish manufacturers were pushing back against government emission standards. They have destroyed the quality of new equipment.
From what I'm hearing, the DPF isn't causing any problems, but it sure jacks up the price on the tractor.
@@PineyGroveHomesteadand burns more diesel. Another win for the "enemy" oil producers. Gun sales and oil sales sky rocket when Dems are in control...
Can I have 1 of your tractor 😊😊
We want more ourselves!
None of you youtubers buy the more powerful & efficient, quieter, normal to operate gear drive
Very few people buy gear drive.
2.2 lbs more loader lift? lol
those tractor were a lot less compact A few years ago were built a lot stronger than today todays are built a lot cheaper
I've had different L-series since 2006....they all feel the same. The biggest difference is cost!
That's complete bullshit OP. Tractors change overtime but there's no way I'd ever take the m9580 I grew up on if I had the choice to get a new tractor
Hi homestead....I'm all most with you .....but 🧐🧐🧐the government is pushing hard to eliminate diesel engines 🌍😱😱😱😱why would I purchase one of these when there time of fuel ⛽ supply is going to be phased out....😱😱😱😱😱⛽⛽⛽⛽🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🙏🏾🙏🏾
I think you will see a protest with pitchforks first!!! Diesel runs the world as we found out during the pandemic! Thanks for watching.
@@PineyGroveHomestead all praises to the homestead family 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 I hear you
You're dreaming if you truly believe oil is going to be phased out.
Yeah another Kubota commercial 🙄
We had a great time checking out the new model.
I love my L3901. Not worth paying for the small upgrades. 425hrs
L3901s are great....plowed all day with ours today.
