- Today I talk about one of the most powerful mages in the witcher universe, the elven sage, Avallac'h. I discuss all the lore surrounding him and also, give you a general overview of the history of the Avallac'h. Also some information about Avallac'h and Lara Dorren, as well as Avallac'h's obsession with Ciri and the elder blood.

A quick disclaimer - A lot of these videos use information from the witcher wiki, in some cases I do read directly from the pages, I do always make sure to include my own thoughts and other information I know myself, but I just want to make sure everyone is on the same page here. Even though I use information from the wiki, I do still create the videos, with time, effort and a lot of editing! The idea behind the lore videos is to present to information to you guys in a fun and more interesting way then you guys having to get the information from pages and read it yourself. If anyone isn't okay with this I apologise, but since day one I have always said where I get the information from. Thank you for reading.
He's just a guy with godly cheekbones
The godliest
And one of the best gwent cards ever
Milbox R an elf
Too much Fisstech will do that 😉
Those Cheekbones could kill
They did such a great job at depicting Avallac’h as a shifty, seemingly untrustworthy ally. The whole elven race basically. I was pining for a huge fight against Avallac’h at some point. I wanted more time in the Eleven world in the game.
During the scene when Avallac'h's past is revealed and he gets accused of "using her body like a piece of ham", if you watch Avallac'h he actually looks incredibly guilty and regretful. I think he genuinely feels bad and likely didn't want to trick Ciri in the first place, but did so because he felt like he had no choice. I think he comes to see Ciri as a complex person and not just a weapon, so he decides to help her.
I think it’s complex. Overall, Avallac’h was loyal to Auberon and the Aen Elle Elves. And he didn’t want to benefit Eredin. So the goals of saving the Aen Elle and stopping Eredin converged in helping Ciri.
I saw him as a neutral-good character. He always had his own motives, they just happened to align with ours as the player.
I didn't really like him as a character in the games but I didn't fully dislike him either. I think that his wisdom and patience was just annoying me. In the books I did dislike him tho because he trapped Ciri and even though he said he gave Ciri a choice it was a very bad/one sided choice.
Who would win: An army of multidimensional AnElle Elfs with magical abilities or one Witcher boi.
Depends on the battle field haha, in an open field? Aen Elle Elves. In a closed space? One witcher boiiii
@@WitcherGeorge What is white frost? Will wild hunt survive it?
@@Muralidharan001 That's a darned good question. The Hunt appears to actually draw on its powers (or at least their mages could), with the frost armor, horses with hooves that freeze the ground, and ability to freeze foes. Further, their hounds seem quite happy on that one world that had been destroyed by the White Frost. This suggests they could survive. Yet the world of the Aen Elle was in the process of being destroyed by the White Frost and Eredin wanted Ciri's powers to move the population to the world of the Aen Siedhe, which suggests that they could not survive. Or at least that ordinary Aen Elle could not. It seems a little confusing to me.
@@WitcherGeorge the funny thing is this super powerful army of Aen Elle Elves would still be no match to a couple of Nilfgaardian guards😀😀
@@Muralidharan001 Don't know what the white frost really is. Avallac'h said in the game that eveyone would die to the white frost.
His main weapon in battle are those sharp ass cheekbones
someone needs to make an animation of Avallac'h fighting with those killer cheeks aha
@@WitcherGeorge Lmaooo yes- I can't really make an animation but I'll sure as hell draw it
@@CenozoicSillyare you done drawing it? I wana see, @ me
@@Forgelock3d I don’t draw anymore :(
Man I remember that I thought Avallac'h was so sketchy and that I wouldn't hesitate to put him down if he threatened ciri. Thanks for the background man 👍
Mario Martocchio I was so ready to kill him in my first play trough, when I found out that he was opening the gates
Yeah, I felt so betrayed for a moment
Yeah, they did a great job at making him seem so mysterious and two-faced....like he always knew more than everyone else, but wouldn’t tell anyone ANYTHING....only letting us in on the secrets as needed. Pissed me off. Plus he was very smug to Geralt....but I think thats just the way Elves are in this world.
If he's such a powerful mage why can't he fix his own hairline
The more power, the less hair haha
He’s like hundreds of years old, right? A little male elf pattern baldness is to be expected.
Because hairline is what concerns insecure beta males.
Origulator with great power comes less hairs to worry about
He's a min-maxer, his dump stat is charisma
I have a feeling they deleted a lot of content that explains why Ciri suddenly has so much trust in Avallach. Their relationship from the books does not translate well into the game continuity unless there was a major event prior to the games that made them allies.
Wish they didn’t cut it out cause that Bloody Baron and Dandelion quest was dragged out for too long
Bloody baron questline is considered the best story in the game. You belong to the minority
@@LuffyxNamiisathing Well, Nonpneumatic did not say the story was shitty or anything, but rather too long. Too long isnt supposed to be shitty. Nonpneumatic just wanted a bit of something else, what i can understand.
But well this is still a game and not a book and the devs had a lot of stuff to delve into. So i guess, they had to cut out parts or maybe even forgot some parts.
@@LuffyxNamiisathing I thought the bloody baron-wife stuff was the most boring quest line. No matter what your "majority" thinks.
@@drunkensailor112 good for you for finding it boring. Personally I agree. The whole quest is boring up until the end parts.
But your comment is just you being a c*nt for no reason.
@@LuffyxNamiisathing what even is the point of pointing out one belongs in the minority? what is that supposed to mean
I really liked him in the game, then I read the books and I liked him even more lol. Idk there's something about him I fucking love, he's definitely my favourite. Glad you made a video on him
Thank you mate
yes thanks for the video from me too. But I miss a work -out about a rel. ship between Ciri an Avalach. For me they fit perfectly together. He is calm, collected and wise (so is Geralt too). A. is respectful and deserves respect. Ciri trusted him and he 'll protect her. They would be a powerful couple to reign the world for becoming better. Whý not, we may dream...( if s.b. know s.th. about a videoclip about them, pl. give a hint)
hmmm... so I guess Laura Dorren's portrait is drawn on papers that are in Avallac'h's secret laboratory, he still loves her. Also maybe Avallac'h decided to be nice to Ciri because she looks like Laura Dorren? :o
Probably, I think he isn't necessarily 'in-love' with ciri, but he has almost an obsession with her. It's like having a girlfriend/boyfriend who died and then you meet someone who looks very similar, you wouldn't love them, but a part of you would almost cling to them.
In The books he says ciri is replacing his memories of Lara so the drawings are just to show that
The world of the Aen Elle is breathtakingly beautiful.
I liked avalac h so much, nice to know more about him
Someone who almost gets killed by a very VERY angry Geralt. :)
Geralt
Theis Carlsen Geralt?
Poor Fucking infantry nice Edit :)
Do you think geralt could actually fight him he did blow up half a forest
Liz Davies quen shield bruh
Wouldn't it be cool if CD red make a elven story, with more info on them, and their inter action with humans! Oooh the architecture in the elven world would be so beautiful!!
They don't like elves, has been said in some interview(
They removed elven side, and all the key elven characters, from the third game..
@@ГамстерКунгфу thats just racist 🤣
One of my favorite characters in the books.
My guess is, Eredin hates him so he lies about it even with his last breath and the she elf is just jealous of Ciri gaining more attention from him than her, thus the amusement
Avalac'h s a total douch in the books, and in the game he's kinda one as well. That bastard seems to confuse people with horses, since he wants to breed perfect specimen.
Nail on the head aha, however I suppose in the end it was all for the greater good (at least with ciri)
I enjoyed when in Toussaint he was drawing giant pipis on the fake rock paintings. The elves have a huge ( 😂) complex about that. The elves male cannot light the females enough. That hit hard on them. Auberon used fisstech in order to have some “fire”. It didn’t work and he ooff himself. 😂
Playing the Witcher 3 for the second time now and got interested in your videos, they're really well made, and now I'm reading the books too.
Thank you man, glad you enjoy them
What about a video on Regis?
yes please
This video is great and all, but I am still waiting on a video on the lore of cows.
i never trusted Avallac'h even after the game then i read the books and now i hate him god knows why ciri trusts him now
It's a weird one definitely
because new writers are retarded
Or because she can slice him in split second
Lajj Von Everec avalach is able to control her powers very easy. So no she cant.
That's The XD What did he do?
I feel bad for being a douche to him for so long only to find out in the end when I thought he betrayed us he was helping Ciri even more
Siri...
Well he wasn't necessarily doing it for Ciri. He did it to prevent the White Frost perishing all worlds
Hey man, just got around to playing the Witcher 3 a few months ago and I really love the game and the lore which is how I found your channel. Just wanted to tell you that I love your vids and keep it up!
Thank you mate
Great video man absolutely brilliant. I think you're the only witcher based channel that uploads daily, and I dare say you'll have good career ahead of you on TH-cam so keep up the good work.
Thanks you mate, that means a lot!
Lol no idea why but each time I see a video of yours I’m filled with joy
Aha thank you man, I hope you enjoyed it
Love your Witcher videos. Since I started watching the Netflix series, you’ve taught me so much about the Lore.
Great vid! Franciska Findabar or Iorveth next? Elves are great
Maybe, people have been wanting cerys and Regis haha
WitcherGeorge I'll take regis as well
Cillian murphy has to play him in netflix series
So....he''s a dude who's girlfriend left him for someone better?
Love these videos. Finally got to watch after your stream, haha!
It was a fun stream! Thank you for joining me on some Halo! Hope you enjoyed it!
I don't think Avelach was ever malicious with Ciri or ever had malicious intent even when he asked her to bed the king and bear the kings child. Since he loved Lara Doren(hope I spelled that name right) he could have seen Ciri as a long lost offspring, an extension of the woman he once loved romantically without the romance and desired to see the family line advance with royal lineage. There wasn't any real malice shown, manipulation was shown but that doesn't say malice. One can manipulate a friend into not doing something stupid and that isn't malice. Avelach showed he had faith in Ciri and his manipulating her when he surprised Geralt by saying he hoped she would defy him and then telling her good luck when she did. That's someone who has high hopes for someone else who trusts and loves them enough to put their own life on the line. The games ending though... "Do you trust me?" just after Avelach decided he was done and let Geralt end him if Geralt chose to shows malice wasn't the motivation, hope was.
Ehh... You should read the books.
@@aistaxoxo1352 How was it described in the books?
Ciri is Ava's last hope
Actually Ciri never had sexual intercourse with Auberon, because he couldn't perform. Eredin used this fact to give his king a potion which should have helped with his performance, but it killed him as Eredin planned.
kronoss897 yeah that's pretty much it. I know I've talked about it extensively in other vids
Ah, I didn't know that, because you mentioned how Avallac'h forced Ciri to have sex with the king, but the sex never happened even though she did go to his chambers.
kronoss897 yeah well he mostly blackmailed her, but the king couldn't 'get in the mood'
He couldn't get it up basically. :P
They never had intercourse, but the descriptions in the book pretty much all but outright said that Auberon was... well, touching her. So it's not like nothing happened. In my opinion, still pretty foul.
I still can’t figure out if he is evil or not. Ciri says that SHE has decided to stop the white frost. If you look back in the story of the Witcher 3 when you find ciri she says she was dreaming about a tower (probably the one she enters in the end to stop the white frost) and you could say that avallach made her “fall asleep” since he is the one who wakes her up after all. Is it possible that avallach is actually manipulating ciri with those dreams to make her risk her life to stop the white frost?
PS my English kinda sucks.
It's very possible that he's manipulating her, for the greater good, I don't trust him haha
It's not the dreams that made her decide it was traveling and seeing it herself
how come avallac'h is Way smaller than the other Aen Elle?
I wonder if he's that much smaller in the books...
seems he made himself shorter to hide, blend in better in velen and in the human world. in the books and originally he is as tall, or almost as tall as eredin.
I'm gonna guess he just changes his appearance so he can better interact with humans. The funny thing about that though is that his girlfriend in the lab is also the same height lol.
@@jasonsinn9237 I got the feeling that his girlfriend in the lab is probably an Aen Seidhe elf rather than an Aen Elle. The Aen Seidhe elves in the game tend to be around the same height as humans.
@@Engine33Truck but Ciri aknowledged her as the girl from Tir na Lia, from books, so she should be Aen Elle
Yeah avallach brought ciri once to the world of cyberpunk
he is such a facsinating character
My favourite witcher character in the witcher world
He's really cool
I always wandered why they made Avallach with grey hair and receding hairline lol, I mean it certainly gives him the distinguished look of someone really old as he is, but Aen Elle dont show signs of aging like that. they dont show them at all.
Avallac'h is my drunken friend from my next door neighbour's shed.
Love all the lore videos
Thanks mate
I really enjoyed this video.
Thank you man!
8:17 months later and I still have no idea who tf that is
His girlfriend.
I love how your goal is to talk about the Witcher !!!
Thanks man!
Aen Elle vs Aen Sheide elves!
@@EzioIlMentore Poor Iorveth
The dude that voice avalac, is Albumen from BBC's Believe Nothing.
One of the funniest character developed on TV for sure!
Avallac'h forced Ciri to have Auberon's child because all the Aen Elle elves believe that human is pathetic. This human girl have a good bit in her gene but only when it's combined with an elite, powerful elf, it would make a super child who destiny is saving the world. And who would be more elite than the King of the Aen Elle. But then Avallac'h realised Ciri needs no elf. Ciri, a human, is strong enough on her own to stop the White Forst. That's when he starts to help her. Of course there is also the fact that she looks very like Lara, the love of his life, and he wasn't happy at all thinking about her warming the bed of the King.
Am I the only one who thinks that he kinda looks like Antoine Griezzman?
he kinda does
my fav elven sage 💕
Love the lore videos
Thank you man
Yeah really love yr content bruv
Eredin disliked this video
Haha GOD DAMMIT WILDHUNT
How about a video on dandelion? I feel like it would be really interesting. Plus he has a hidden story with the douchess of the Blood and Wine DLC, right? Correct me if i'm wrong.
He does yes! That would be a fun tale
The way he dresses looks like Medivh
Nice point
Always wondered how Avallac'h managed to convince Ge'els. How did he know it was Eredin who killed the king? Always wondered if he had any role to play in that assassination plot.
He showed him a dream from an oneiromancera's (which can't be faked)
@@WitcherGeorge yeah, but he was also sure Eredin killed the king before showing the dream to Ge'els
I was wating for that but i didn't ask cause i know you will do it
I wish Avallac'h could retire in Toussant on the vineyard. ❤️
#question...as you mentioned in this video avallach can open the doors of different worlds...could he open the get that lies in the cave of the unseen vampire?Thank you're
would be wary interesting! Also, he probably could open the gate to high vampires world, wich they can't rich for a long time
I know book people do not like him that much. But he s one of my favourite character in the game.
Edit: how did he know Geralt would visit the book store in Novigrad...?
@@Smuusik thanks for the explanation. Guess i will have to look about Alvin cuz i have no ideas who he is...
I liked him in the book too)
play Witcher 1 and you will know who the sender really was :)
@@kingcrimson4436 yeah yeah I know who it is now no worries
Avallach might be like Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan saw Anakin as an inferior being but grew to care for Anakin over time. This might apply to the long time Avallach spent mentoring Ciri. I think Avallach was fine with Aen Elle's evil culture but I think he sees his people becoming too evil and malicious over time and there is also the matter of the White Frost. If Avallach was evil, he would've worked to manipulate Ciri but he did not. I believe Eredin was lying about Avallach's "dark nature" as a way to convince the Witcher to kill Avallach as the last laugh. Maybe Avallach may be an important character in Witcher 4.
Enthyr on deathmarch will change your mind. He’s lightning and a one shot hitter. One of the best boss fights of my gaming life because you have to be lightning but you only get to pick away at him. When he drops down to half health dodging his attacks requires quick reflexes. Highly recommend to fight him with a strictly sword build with a few quen perks to fully experience what I did.
Sry the boss before the crones final fight.
There's more in Ciri & her elder blood thar what was revealed in witcher 3. Elves are obsessed with her ancestor & desperately comparing her with every she elf. They will not leave her in peace & disappear specifically not Avalach & difnitly not that manipulating elf whatever his name was!
2:34 I know that feeling quite depressing really
Yup
Connor Shekelstein Also lost the Elder Blood, eh? I feel you m8
He was shifty but I was always giving him a chance though, there was nothing concrete other than a gut feeling and he didn’t seem that bad to me
Crevan, or Criomhthann in Irish, is an ancient Irish name for a fox; I have no clue what Espane is; Aep Caomhan means son of Caomhan (pronounced either as Kweevan or Keevan depending on your dialect of Irish, and the origin of the English Kevin) and then Macha (the CH should be a guttural breathy sound and not the English Ch) could mean something like the small or the beloved.
Cool to know, thanks
Tir Ni Lia-Home of the Aen Elle Elves
Not all elves since Aen Seidhe ones remained in the continent, some in the Elven country given by Emyr.
I'm pretty sure the pronunciation of the mh in Caomhan is pronounced with a w or a v and the ao in the name is pronounced with 'ee' like tree. So Caomhan would sound like Kee-wan/Kee-van. Macha would just be pronounced as Moh-kah, or Mah-kah, depending on which part of Ireland you're from.
Ah thank you!
You're welcome.
How much do 'good' magic genes make a better mage? I'd love to know more about genes of the Witcher mutations and
add ons like the elder blood,
Great suggestion man!
Avallac'h vs Littlefinger Baelish
holly gemma Mhmm let’s see, one of the most knowledgeable elves who has lived for centuries and has magical abilities or just a really smart man with a large spy network; I’d say without a doubt Avallac’h although Littlefinger is one hell of a character and it’s always entertaining to see what scheme he’s up to
The Real Viper I think Varys has the large spy network. Littlefingers just really damn smart
Dark they both have spy networks it’s just Littlefinger has less spies
Dark a better matchup would be between Dijkstra and Varys
Everyone here mistake what type of battle this is. Who is actually more creepy.
Would you do a video about the history of the Aen Elle
Good idea!
Thank you witcher George in particular I'm interested in their schism with Aen Seide
Still waiting for the video
I never played the first 2 Witcher games but I would love too. My only problem is I only have a PS4 right now cause my gaming pc died in spectacular fashion. Hopefully the games will pop up on ps now or get a remastered edition though if Cd Project Red was going to do that I would think they would have released it shortly after to a year after the Witcher 3 but I’m still hoping
Ineedmoney get an xb360 for cheap and you can play Witcher 2 enhanced
Hi Witcher. One video on the dwarf yarpen
How did elves with such long lifespans even use eugenics to make super sorcerers? Avallach was engaged to Ciris ancestor so 1 elven lifetime is quite awhile it would stand to reason that they would make terrible selective breeders
they are fertile only whyle young, so it's possible to make chains of couples with about the same speed that humans. And they are mush more patient)
Yay, my comment is on there :), im famous now! Great video mate.
Yey, great suggestion man!
Love the channel What the name of the amor in this video.
The one thing I am confused on about the Witcher 3 and maybe it was said and I missed it but how did the sage elf get curse turning into Uma? I don’t remember seeing or hearing anything about how or why it happened. I’m guessing the Wild Hunt did it but I figured they would just kill him or capture him over cursing him.
I'll have to make a video explaining that story chronologically!
I remember someone told that Eredin cursed him to humiliate, not wanting to kill Avallach
The only thing I dont get is that if Eredin wanted to use Ciri to bring his people onto "this" word to save them from the White Frost and Avallac'h wanted to use Ciri to stop the White Frost for good, then why didnt they make a deal of sorts? I mean they in the end wanted to same thing, which is to protect their people from the White Frost.
Eredin also wanted to kidnap humans to make them slaves (in the books at least)
What armor are you using when you are talking with avallac’h
Nice one m8
Thanks man
Even when I was playing the game, I could never understand why Carathir couldn’t transport the elven race? He obviously can transport elves, hounds, horses through multiple portals so why can’t he transport everyone else?
Nice!
We never see them transport more than a few dozen, i imagine his race numbers at least in the tens of millions
Yen told Ciri in Avallach lab that although they tried to create another Lara's gene, Ciri is unique with her abilities. We can say that she is 'natural', and more powerfool than Caranthir
I watched the video last night and really don't have much to say on it, other than I'm still not sure why Ciri trusts Avallac'h more than Yen in the game.
...I also remembered when I was in bed last night that the name that shows for me on youtube isn't my usual login name for stuff and no one would associate this name with the one I used on the twitch stream & joined the discord group with, sorry. I really should change this name. ~Ashleyien
Aha I remember you!
Loved the opening
I thought that with the sound of the sea was great way to open the video
So, are his intentions clean or not? What does the books say about him?
I'd say they are!
Avallach is obviously the best spy card
Did you noticed that Ge'els sounds a bit lige Gebels? :P. I think it may be interesting theory to compare Wild Hunt to the 3rd reich or so.
Good point!
Omg i love Avallac`h!!!?
Ciri had a elven sugar daddy what the freak
I still don't understand how humans beat out every other race. From what I understand they learned magic from others and even then only a few humans, like the lodge, are actually powerful. Like the battle at Kaer Mohren was super lopsided. Dozens of 7 foot tall super soldiers lost to a couple of beefed up humans. I mean at that point, Ereden should've just given up on conquest. That was a free win for him and instead he was getting whipped.
Tedd Danson the final age
I mean, he changed his mind because Eredin killed the King.
when I first saw that dude after he tuned back to normal, I was like eventually im going to have to kill this dude.
So he's basically a elf version of Jacob in the Twilight series over multiple generations? Lol
i just bought this game
You're gonna have fun
quick question, when I find ciri is that the end of the game? I hope not...
The Witcher Books Saga: "Everyone Want to Have a Baby with Ciri"
Whole game I didn't even know Eredin was also an elf, instead of killing him probably should have turned him into Uma like this idiot
Best character in witcher 3!
He's certainly interesting!
Played the games first, then read the books. I was thrilled to encounter familiar characters in the pages, including Geralts first encounter with Avallach. The elven sage is one unlikeable character: arrogant, condescending, and bitter at the fact that his lady love fell for a human and bore him a daughter. Then meeting Ciri in Tir Na Lia made him even more detestable (Ciri was likewise insufferable due to her fiery temper), finally convincing Ciri to bear a child with the Alder King: her great great great great 100X great grandfather. Every bedroom encounter with the Alder King was extremely uncomfortable to read: sure Auberon couldnt get it up for her, but he's got dexterous fingers.
haha unicorns, Geralt's biggest hatred
If you think about 'Unicorns' in the witcher universe as sentient beings and Geralt just has sex on stuffed ones
Wouldn’t that be portals?
Is he stronger than the golden child?
Smarter probably, but can't travel through worlds so easy
I have always shipped Ciri and Avallach.
really?
Yeah Ciri was quite upset at Avallach's lair, of course the knowledge of him tracking her for a long time and other data but I think the elven woman made her jealous as well. Elven woman (just used for sex probably) clearly was jealous of Avallach's obsession Ciri and I think Ciri wasn't too pleased to find her there. Of course lot of theorycrafting going on. By the way, one thing that really bugged me about this game was that it gave no closure to Avallach while it painstakingly gives endings and closure to far more minor characters.
It is proposed a lot in W3 that ciri actually didnt have sex with The king.
Dominik Wozniak well he did actually try, but had some trouble
He’s just the best gwent card thats all
