    Hi guys, It is great to see that someone does the vegemite on toast properly. Just a note. it is best when using white bread and the toast is still hot so the butter melts a bit.
    The reason that everything is expensive, especially for the U.S.people , is basically because our wages are higher, about $AUD 24 per hour for for service staff plus taxes are high but that is cool because it goes to things like FREE healthcare for us.

    You’ve probably never tried venison, such as deer meat, but kangaroo is very similar to venison. Being so lean, it neds to be cooked to medium rare or rare, otherwise it becomes leathery and inedible.
    Chicken Parmigiana is definitely of Italian origin. In Australia we also have Wiener Schnitzel. Both dishes are extremely popular and have often become intertwined! Parma is one Aussie name and Schnitty is another!

      Yes, some say it’s originally from the US that was brought by Italians.

    The mighty Melbourne burger from Grill'd is one of my favourites and their zucchini chips (with aioli dipping sauce) is definitely worth trying. Actually, all of the food you highlighted is worth trying...but make sure you get a lamington with lashings of fresh cream!

    Hi guys, this was a fabulous video, I’m in Melbourne and have never visited those places you went to apart from Grill’d which I love. Wow $24 for that kangaroo burger was so steep, I can’t believe how expensive that was 🥺😮 the burgers are the best in Melbourne I think, and there are so many multicultural restaurants that make it easy to want to try different types of cuisines.

    • @TwoHungryDiners
      @TwoHungryDiners  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Angie!
      Definitely give these places a try. We agree, $24 for the kangaroo burger is a a bit too much. Maybe it’s difficult to source a good quality kangaroo meat. Good thing that it tastes delicious and the meat is well cooked 😊

      $23.90 for a delicious kangaroo burger i don't think it's expensive. You can’t compare prices with McDonald’s. I have lived in Melbourne for many years. You want a basic pasta or pizza in Melbourne for more than $20 .

    Its always funny to see how much similarity there is with New Zealand and Aussie cuisine. Vegemite ~ Marmite, Beetroot in the burger and of course a classic meat pie. I could say NZ does it better but I don't want to start that battle hahahaha. I'm just joking with ya guys great video :D

    Great stuff folks. Made me feel homesick. I remember when the pineapple was introduced into the kitchen sink burgers back in the 80’s from QLD. Never cottoned on to it myself but all good. Two steams of thought with Vegemite on toast, the way you did it and with cooler toast good helping of butter and then swirl the Vegemite in. Both work and both good. The later being better during the summer seasons. I think this channel has legs. Perhaps you can interweave the incredible diversity of cultural influences and corruptions/interpretations that catered to and shaped current food norms. Even the chiko rolls and steamed dimsims. I know, I know there’ll be flack. It’s Victoria Australia after all. But what a fascinating TH-cam channel it will become. Australian Food History. Anyway, great work and have compassion for the nasty commenters, they ate white lead paint from the window sills when they were kids, because it tasted sweet. 😅

      The reason that everything is expensive, especially for the U.S.people , is basically because our wages are higher, about $AUD 24 per hour for for service staff plus taxes are high but that is cool because it goes to things like FREE healthcare for us.

    Chicken Parmigiana (pollo alla parmigiana and also based on Carne pizzaiola - Which is Naples food like pasta sauce is from and has other names (Originally they used eggplant or beef instead of chicken but eventually they used chicken) is Italian since the 20th Century and the Italians that went to America made it more famous and was called Chicken Parma in the 1950s but Australia does it better or perfected it apparently.
    Chicken parmigiana was known in Australia by the 1950s. It was offered in restaurants in Adelaide as early as 1953. It is regularly served as a main meal throughout Australia, where it is considered a staple of pub food. In a 2019 interview that was broadcast on ABC Radio Hobart, food historian Jan O'Connell believes that chicken parmigiana did not become a pub staple until the 1980s; before that time it was primarily served in restaurants.
    I am from an Italian decent and have a napolitana born Mother
    Australia invented the Burger with the lot.
    ANZAC Biscuit is was named in WWI after the Anzacs soldiers. They use to send so many overseas to the soldiers and someone in Adelaide named it Anzac Biscuits.

      @@TwoHungryDiners thank you. Thats because of so many Italians started cafes and restaurants they got popular and the pubs copied it and they became more known and popular pub food. I dont like bought Parma because the pasta sauce is can or jar and too sweet.

    Aussies eat way more lamb, beef, chicken and pork than kangaroo meat. Beef tops the list for burgers although chicken and lamb ones are becoming popular. Kangaroo burgers are more rare and found in restaurants, not your average burger place.

    I am curious about the character of kangaroo meat, is it tough? What if the kangaroo meat was made into Indonesian rendang, it might taste good

    • @TwoHungryDiners
      @TwoHungryDiners  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The kangaroo burger that we had in this video was not tough, it's in fact a tender one. Kangaroo is a lean meat, so it's sometimes really hard to get it right as you can't overcook it and it becomes dry and chewy.
      I don't think it's the right meat to make rendang in our opinion. Because in rendang you need that fat that helps making the meat tender, and the way we cook rendang is normally for a long time. Maybe I am wrong though. We had tried kangaroo tail in our Native Australia Food video - th-cam.com/video/p-KbLLMSOcA/w-d-xo.html and the tail seems to be quite fatty.
