    I hiked up Baldy via the Ski Hut Trail a few years ago. I thought it was harder than Whitney lol. It just goes straight up!
    I'm also very sad that the Mt. Wilson trail has probably been destroyed by the Bobcat Fire. That was a very underrated hike.

      Thanks for watching, I hiked Wilson once, didnt really care for that hike, but its sad that its affected by the fires.

    Love those ridgeline trails! I'm wary of intense exposure but the trail near the top did not seem too slippery

      Its good trails, so no problem, much different during winter though, which put this mountain on the top 10 list of deadliest mountains in the US😳

    After doing some research it appears this is a Mt. Baldy in California (for anyone who wondered, since there are a bazillion Mt. Baldy's or Baldy Peaks, etc. in the US.)

    • @NorwegianXplorer
      @NorwegianXplorer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I should clarify that in the text, thank you! Its actual name is Mount San Antonio

      You are correct. I know of a Mount Baldy adjacent to the White Mountain Apache Reservation near Greer in Arizona.

    Another great hike! Stunning views from up there. Great job filming this too! Not easy with the slippy slide sand and scree. When did you start coming to the states for your hikes and backpacking? Thanks, Jarl! 😊🐝🙏

      @@d.w.3325 It looks cool, Joey brought it up as a potential place to go, I remember driving on the east side , through the Great Basin area, towards Idaho a few years ago and wonder what that mountain range was.

    You seem to hike there a bunch. I’m guessing you’re located in SoCal? You mentioned applying for some Sierra Permits. What’s on the agenda? For my first trip I’m eying a trip into Mitre Basin to fish the alpine lakes and climb Mt Pickering, Joe Devel, and possibly The Mitre.

    • @NorwegianXplorer
      @NorwegianXplorer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice, yes, I am in SoCal. Mt Baldy is my "home" mountain, the mountain I go to when I am feeling lazy and just need to get out there, I am usually never disappointed by it, it has so much to offer both summer and winter. I just applied for a few permits in the sierras and I got one for the Twin Lakes area in SEKI, I am not really familiar with the western side, so that should be fun, might go up Mt Silliman and do some off trail stuff from there. I also have one for late summer/early fall from Horseshoe meadows, might do a long trip or a short one, dont know yet:-)

    Parts of that trail remind me a little of Clouds Rest in Yosemite. What amazing views from up top! Was that a snow plant in the lower-center of the frame @11:16? Thanks for sharing your hike!

    • @NorwegianXplorer
      @NorwegianXplorer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, its a pretty cool place, not as cool as Clouds Rest though. I dont know about the name of the plant:-)

    Great video. Was this on 5/31/20 and what time did you start this hike? Is any part of the Devils Backbone so narrow that one can fall? Is it more windy in the P.M.?

    • @NorwegianXplorer
      @NorwegianXplorer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it was, I dont remember but I think I say when I started in the video, was it maybe 11:30am? You can fall yes if you are not carefull, but prob not on the backbone itself, the part right after is more scary IMO. I try to find the days with least wind to hike any mountain, its much more enjoyable at the summit then.

  • @WildlandExplorer

    Very cool. What is it with having a dozen Mt. Baldy's in every state anyways?
    I'm making the switch to 4k60 as well. Man it does wonders for the stabilization doesn't it!

    • @NorwegianXplorer
