Wow! Amazing! Ganassi is the best Adalgisa of the last 15 years. Devia gives a singing lesson every time she opens her mouth. The whole role of Norma is definitely beyond her reach and I hope she never tackles it on stage (I wouldn't like to hear her sing "Non, non tremare, non tremare o perfido), but these lyrical parts offer her the opportunity to flaunt her impeccable legato, breath control and perfect coloratura. Divina.
It's true that this role is, in general, too heavy for the kind of voice of Devia. But, her tecnique is SO AMAZING that I think she could do it. Not like Callas, of course, but an interesting version...
any idea if Devia is going to add Norma to her stage appearances? If only we could have her at the Met. The role may be a little heavy in places, but all her registers seem to be equal to almost anything! Thanks so much for posting this treasure!
i know what you mean! according to opera chic, she sang casta diva in her recent la scala recital but that's it. i would love to see her as norma with dolora zajick singing adalgisa. possibly vagras as polione?
perhaps if donr on original instruments in Bellini's tuning she could do it! It would add demension to the performance and perhaps be less bright compared to orchestras today. I'd love to here her and Ruth Ann Swenson as her Agalgisa
I think Devia won't take on Norma because in some ways it is too heavy. It's also very long and could be tiring. Many sopranos sound veiled by the final scene. Vocally she could do it, but at 60 I doubt we'll see her on stage in it- Heck, I'd settle for a concert performance- Eve Queler where are you?

Thank you so much for this! For this concert they were named "Le Regine del Belcanto". I really think they should record the opera together!

If Sutherland and Sills can sing Norma, then Devia certainly can.
You are absolutly right.
Versione magnifica...

Are they singing together in October?

this is good, but not in the same class as Ponselle & Telva or Sutherland & H in my opinion
