I keep saying to myself, Chris Dave is the best (if we say: 'pound for pound') living Drummer. Derrick Hodge, don't want to say yet for him as the best modern bass player to me because he continues to grow/produce in ways that can't be predicted yet, although already an amazing artist.
Mark Johhson thanks for introducing me to Dave King, his drumming is so beautiful on that track, love all the variations of rhythms that he plays. I’ll listen more to his and his bands music. I am biased with Chris Dave because I love all the styles he’s played in the past jazz, gospel, rnb, soul, hip hop, classical, and his new stuff always innovating, incorporating so many styles and playing outside of the box, and with his technical abilities it seems he can play anything/everything - Chris reminds me of the most influential jazz drummers of the past (heavy players like art blakey, elvin jones, billy cobham and others). I’m primarily a guitar player so I try to learn/listen as many drummers as I can.
Jacob Miranda ..cool, I can tell the drummer in the video isn’t Chris Dave, I was mentioning Chris because Derrick Hodge plays with Chris a lot..and I was in my mind comparing Derrick as a bass player to with how I feel about Chris Dave’s drumming. Although I didnt know who Mike Mitchel/Blaque Dynamite was before you mentioned him so thanks for that introduction to him.
Absolument magnifique !!!
This is great.
Wow I am honored! Derrick beyond his playing is truly a special guy. Thank you sir so very much for the comment truly. 🙏🏾
