Thats why they usually avoid high risk areas. Those areas in california were high risk but not to a degree that isnt wasnt feasible to insure. But when you have a great disaster like this there is no way to pay out all the money. Its a dicey situation in life where there is always tradeoffs for everyone.

Not really, it works as designed as a launder, from my perspective. Because of insurance, medical and pharmaceutical companies can charge anything they want. Take a look at you medical bills statements. A 6 figure surgery is pretty common. You have a company that has a business model of taking residuals forever and basing the profit on low claims being filed. Well stuff does happen so often it’s not profitable (as they want), so on the backend they send their clients a bill to offset. Insurance as a business is a contradiction in itself, imo.
