Beides sind komplett unterschiedliche Elemente und die Opening Ceremony ist mehr oder weniger das Gegenstück zu einer Endshow, was das Wochenende offiziell und speziell (Effekte, Feuerwerke, Chor/Band) einläutet. Beim Defqon 1 Gathering besteht der Großteil aus DJ Sets, eingeläutet mit Effekten usw., vielleicht auch zwischendurch Spezielles, aber nicht die komplette Länge. Das braucht es aber auch gar nicht.
