The Chinese name for this dance is 仙人指路 "immortal guiding"... She is blind in this scene, so she could only tell the which drums need to beat by listening... Yes in the movie she is pretending she is a blind but even with vision she still has to listen and memorize the beats
The first scene is the ultimate scene for setting up your surround sound system. Anyone who does not have that, misses out by a mile on scenes like this.
Meridia's Bacon If you can that is, she’s blind in the movie and can only listen you wanna be blind? And intense dancing training like chinese dance is hard af it’s not as easy as ballet
I am a huge fan of Zhang Ziyi. I think I have seen just about everything she has ever been in and when she broke out in America with Memoirs of a Geisha, it just made my feelings for her talent even more stronger. She is great.
Same here. I fell in complete and utter love with her in "The Road Home", one of Zhang Yimou's earlier films, the ending makes me burts out in tears everytime, and then came Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon that kind of just sealed the deal. Been following her ever since and i consider her one of the absolute greatest actresses of our time. Her, Gong Li and Bai Ling. Powerhouses. Too bad she didn't get a lot of good roles outside of asia aside from Memoirs of a Geisha...she was kind of typecast as a wuxia heroine for a while, not that i'm complaining in the least but she is a great actress first and foremost, not just somebody who can execute choreography well...i mean, the cloverfield paradox? i mean, how dare they put her in that role, she deserves so much better than that. Luckily she is a huge star in asia so she gets really great roles there. My favourites are The Road Home, Crouching Tiger, Hero (even though she only has a very small part), House of Flying Daggers, The Banquet, the grandmaster and The Crossing. ever seen the Crossing? absolutely beautiful
I grew up in the United States, and so normal to me is American English, culture, music, and art. But when I saw this movie, I couldn't help but watch amazed. I wonder if maybe I find it so beautiful because it's different? I find Chinese imagery to be more poetic and evocative, richer in terms of the vibrancy of the emotions it evokes. This is not to say there are not poetic American works in cinema. But for me, American culture seems rooted in the more pragmatic aspects of life, like money, fame, success, dominance (ego), and the prosaic. Every culture has wonderful things about it, but when I think about dreams and their peculiar brand of adventure, it feels like the Chinese have captured the astral nature of dreams most accurately in their paintings and cinema. It is almost as if the spiritual world is more real to them, and for us here in America we do not view spirituality as a real part of our lives. Hmm, perhaps that is not accurate. It's as if it is not acceptable to speak about spirituality here--it is not an acceptable topic for everyday conversation.
American culture is about capitalism, china for a long time has been nobles dressed themselves like" clowns" , vibrant and heavy colors to make themselves feel special, that's all about history and religion , like china has taste for nature, but christian, muslim, jews don't have, in that view human is above everything , human can everything, no wonder, they have been the main forces changing the world and its nature, even because the abraamic background had not life, but ascetic people with sand and rock, well there are several reasons

She could have hit those drums in any damn order and she knew it. It's like when you're able to bullshit your essays because your teacher only actually reads the first paragraph.
When he threw the whole bowl and she started her whole dance.. Can anyone really tell if she got the order right? She could have just thrown her shawl thing at any drum for all anyone knows.
Reminds me of when I occasionally B.S.'ed a class assignment in college. "They'll never know any better. Just be confident and likable. You can still get an A."
Irun Mon some of it, the most demanding parts were done were done from another dancer whose name I can never remember well. I do remember she was trained also on the beijing dance academy (same as ziyi)
probably because, that very officer already listed in the rebel's list as a target of opportunity, still, that's kind of direct confrontation was too rush though..
To this day and since I grew up watching her work she has been an inspiration to me. As a woman shall dance with grace but have the bite of a serpent.. unwilling to bow down to any man. (Even if he is the damn general) I love this movie to the end. Yes some scenes need work but most movies nowadays are full of cheap storylines and buzzwords... But THIS . . This is ART.
This is a hearing test. It is for meditation. Can you hear everything most people tune out. Then when you are meditating the sound of one hand clapping is very very loud. Yes it tells you where you are in your meditation like an area for special concentration. This test is usual for special hearing people at the right level of mind. Good movie

Chinese fantasy or Wu Xia often portray super human's ability but this is being done the same in western only to be backed by scientific approach. Hahaha that's cool

You've got to start somewhere, right??

To be honest, it's actually a stupid scene because it's impossible for a human to have a hearing that accurate
It’s called hanfu from the Han dynasty in accent China
Keyon Woods looks very beautiful too.
Lee Ching Yee it’s a movie.... if it was purely base off of real life then it will be boring it’s the fantasy that makes it fun
This is a perfect example of how a woman can be dressed from neck to toe and still be alluring as hell.
don't forget being incredibly badass
Ok but it is zhong ziyi lol she can be wearing a potato sack and would still be alluring
Well shit if I had magic to jump around like that I will
No...They will wear whatever they want to.
AMEN!!!
I always wondered how he threw that whole bowl of stones and not a single one of them hit her in the face.
they're beans i think
They're definitely beans.

she's not blind, she played like she was blind to fool people.
Thank you for letting us know cuz I didn't know I think she is awesome and I think the movie is awesome
Wouldn't be painful if you dance with thin shoes under tiny rocks?
Just wondering!
Either way its beautiful blind or not

Not really. At least not everyone has dance training.
Roger Faint that true, if i not wrong she went to school , f(x) Victoria also went to the same school. Zhang ziyi is Senior of course😄
she learns kung fu
