Jana needs to live up to the hype for Uconn to win the championship. By mid-season she should show what she is capable of. I liked the confidence she shows in her interviews. At 6' 5" she is the only true center

This comment is about recent signee, Blanca Quinonez.
I have coached women's basketball from 7th grade through Division 2 college and have followed UConn women's basketball since 1995. After viewing several hours of her playing and being interviewed, it is my opinion that she has the potential to be one of the most unique players ever to play for the Huskies. She has a unique blend of offensive and defensive athleticism, speed, moves, court awareness, passing, size, strength, and maturity. Alcott Corriette, who covers the NY Liberty, said as much on a Locked On UConn Women's Basketball podcast. A former WNBA developmental coach said in an interview that "its not if, but when she gets to the WNBA". She is mature both in her person and her game due to playing strong competition professionally in Italy

Jana is expected to start and contribute day one. If she does not, then Geno has done her a real disservice by hyping her up so much.

    BREAKING 2025 CLASS UPDATE:
UConn signs Blanca Quinonez 6-1 W from Ecuador that played in the Italian pro league last year at 17 yrs old. avg 10.4pts, 3.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists in 29 games. Appears to have come on UConn radar at Basketball Without Borders event at the WNBA All-Star Game in Phoenix. Geno Auriemma and Morgan Valley visited her in Italy subsequently.
UConn still has 1 scholarship spot left as of now for next year. Recruiting #4 ranked Makeer 6-1 W/G, #13 ranked Prawl 6-1W and #23 ranked Somfai 6-4 F.
More scholarship spots could be available as Fudd and Ducharme could leave after this year. Fudd is most likely if she has a good year without injuries. She would be a high WNBA pick and might not want to risk another injury staying in college another year.

Jana is the key. when you look at the size of the other contenders she is the sole player that can match up.

I have watched clips of her playing and this girl can play. Her turns to the basket are lightning quick and she has a monster of attitude. She plays with pash0n.

Guys you’re always calling her Yah-nah but I think her name is actually pronounced Jah-nah. When the interviewers call her Yana the teammates and Geno always correct them. The team actually calls Ayanna Patterson Yah-nah. I could be wrong. Can’t wait for your recaps when the games begin. November can’t come soon enough!!

Like Ice last year, as Jana goes, so goes the NCAA tournament. We can play a lot of games without her, and do well. But, that's the luck of the conference. In a stronger conference, that wouldn't be so easy. But, as she develops and can handle more and more time on the floor, the team should use her more and should play better. It will take her some time to get into peak physical condition as well as to learn how to play with these teammates. Like others, as long as she's healthy, I think she'll come along fine.

I think expectations may be a little high on Jana. Like Ice last year, Jana is coming off a significant injury and a complete loss of her freshman year that includes practice. Her contributing from day one may be an overreach. Hopefully as she gets her legs and experience under her she will be more consistent than Ice was last year. Speaking of Ice, she needs to make a big jump. Still feel that because of all the significant injuries last year along with uncertain health of Caroline, this team will go as far as Paige takes them.

Phil & Ry, what are your predictions for the starting five?

With Jana as a coach it would be kid gloves to me she can start. It's going to be a slow process for the first couple of games especially against ranked teams. Once it gets to tournament time Jana and the Huskies will be a well oiled machine

El Alfy's name is pronounced Jan-ah. Yah-nah is actually what they call Ayanna Patterson. Jana is for sure going to start. We've needed a center badly since Dorka left

I am very interested in your starting lineup predictions. because i can tell there are some major differences of opinion when it comes to picking the top 5.

@@UConnNation12 I think that is the obvious starting 5. But I get a sense that listen up has a different starting 5. And I am curious what it is.
And again. I want to point out. I don’t think anyone got the initial starting 5 right last year. No one had Ducharme starting.

@@TheDisruptiveOne I've always liked you because youre a straight shooter. Just because we don't always agree with each other doesn't mean I don't respect what you say. I must read Caroline won't be ready to play when the season starts. Azzi and Aubrey as well. ACL injuries do take time, I get it... but with Caroline... after a year after getting hit in the head a few times and she still can't play? What type of injury keeps you out a year? Not only that, after a year rehabbing you're still not ready to play? Believe me when I say I'm empathetic to her situation but in my opinion, if youre not ready to play after a year when will you ever be ready to play? Maybe you know something I don't.

    • @TheDisruptiveOne
      @TheDisruptiveOne 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@UConnNation12 I don’t really ever see Caroline playing again. To me she is more of a practice player and a friend for the other girls on the team. I think she needs this year to officially graduate. And that’s important.
But I can’t imagine Geno or UConn ever having the guts to put her into another game.

I think Jana is starting off rip. I don’t think Qadence stays in UConn. I think the problem is she played like an inexperienced freshman which is normal at regular school but her classmates outshined her and were ready for the challenge. I’m interested to see your thoughts on her

Q is one to keep an eye on. Has had issues on social media. It will be interesting to see how much the UConn accounts promote her or if they try to shield her totally on social media.
I think she has a lot of competition at her position. And her body language will be something to pay attention to on the bench.

Thats true. Her social media now says it's being run by UConn which is interesting. Her minutes will be limited for sure. Too much competition @@TheDisruptiveOne

Jana starting or not starting is not important right now. The ideal scenario would be for Jana, Ice, and AY to play the frontcourt by committee until Geno finds the right chemistry and combination. Physical talents are there. Lack of leadership, toughness, and basketball IQ are the reasons why UCONN has not won the championships in the last several years.

My hats off guys....Read a few comments on this post, during this video, which read like going squirrel hunting with someone with a shot gun.( spraying pellets all over the place). . MY POINT : It's To early , The season hasn't started, no games, it's a long season, zero sense to make predictions on who will start, who will transfer.
This year, barring injuries, this years team will be outstanding, one of the better teams tbis decade. Goal is NCAA championship. I can't wait. Go Huskies . Go Oregon Ducks🦆, and OSU Beavers 🦫😁
