I am honestly in tears! This is my uncle Jimmy, and I haven’t seen his face since the mid to late 70s. Although my memories of him are few now, the strongest are the ones of him sitting in the kitchen strumming his guitar and writing notes, sometimes on scraps of paper and often with his friend Kenny. Half baked is by far my favorite album of Jimmy‘s. For some reason I always believed that the female clown on the album cover was my aunt Yvonne… She assures me it is not! LOL. Like any other human being my uncle Jimmy had his issues. They were none of my business, and this is CERTAINLY not the forum in which to discuss them. He was my uncle, I loved him very much, and I miss him dearly! To whom ever posted this video… Thank you! Lee.
L.A.O SPEEDWAGON Hello there! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and that it found it’s way too you. I am a huge Jimmy fan and was always wishing for just one video of him performing. I’m happy you shared this little information about him. Could I contact you somewhere to ask you a few questions? Best Giorgio
Yes wonderful to see him, I love the half baked album and have posted the whole album on my karmaman54 channel, along with a track from 23rd turn off, nice to read your comment, I think it must be hard to live with fame, I'm sure though he was a wonderful soul : )
The music of Jimmy Campbell inspired me a lot when I was a young teenanger. The atmosphere generated by his singing and playing was so moving. I was mostly touched by the beautiful melodies of few chords and by the scenes that he brilliantly described with simple words. He had the courage to express emotions that a lot of men feel but dare not share for a reason or another. In my view, he was a true poet.
hello laura , ive loved your uncle jimmys music , since the 60s, [70s /half baked is my favourite album too, /also have a listen to to [the group rockin horse album [yes it is , 1971, jimmy and billy kinsley , [a wonderful beatles feel, album /thank you
Forever grateful that this footage exists. I'm convinced Jimmy Campbell never had a bad song, all of them amazing and uniquely his own. From The Panthers and Kyrkbys, his short stints as the 23rd Turnoff and Rockin' Horse/Atlantis and his three magnificent solo albums. A tragedy he never made it big during his time.
Knew jimmy , from waterloo. Dear friend. What a fantastic talent. Very underrated. Should have made it, in to to the top . Think he had self doubt. Rest in peace in peace jimmy jimmy . Much love .xx
Michaelangelo is one of the greatest songs of the sixties. Love Jimmy. V brave lyricist with a keen ear for melody. The Kirkby's harmonies are fantastic.
What an extraordinary, beautiful and momentous discovery. I’ve lived with this man’s music for 15 yrs, and to at long last see the man himself deliver such a trio of classics in such stunning film quality, is to me, a revelation. Thank you for posting this sacred stuff. Jimmy Campbell fans- unite and take over! X
I donated some Kazoos for Billy Kinsley's tribute in Liverpool some years back now. Mike Badger used them for his contribution. Discovered Jimmy Campbell over 20 years ago now. Blessed tunes he made. The Kirkbys, 23rd Turn off and Rockin Horse are fantastic too, and once appeared as Chuck Berry's backing group on the BBC 1972.
What a beautiful gift to all Jimmy's fans...Thank you so much. Like people wrote here what a emotional moment...i'm deeply moved too and to know Jimmy played this at the day i was born, Forever Grateful.. So wonderful to see Jimmy peform his magic music. Does anyone know if there is perhaps also footage of Jimmy playing Michelangelo or Another Vincent Van Gogh?
@@giorgioarmanizavos Thank you for your reply, i was just wondering...but this is already more than we could wished for of course. Jimmy deserved so much more recognition in his own time, still so unbelievable sad how he was overlooked, like many great artists in the seventies...he sure was another Vincent van Gogh.. Thank you again for sharing this wonderful footage.
My God this is so true! I'm ok that Jimmy never achieved any elevated status past these true performances and that unbelievably beautiful masterpiece Half Baked. Lennon had McCartney to share the musical journey with, Elton had Bernie, Jimmy had no one- and didn't need anyone. That verse in Closing Down the Shop where he says " hope the sun shines through my window to keep my paintings warm," is pure genius and truth from the heart. Thanks for sharing Jimmy Campbell fan!
Wow, been a fan of Jimmys music for a fair few years. amazing to see him perform live for the first time. In my room was always a fav. Thanks for uploading.
Thankyou very much for unearthing this footage I thought was long forgotten/lost.The bloke deserved/deserves to be recognised up with other eary 70's songwriters far better known.Buy the albums NOW!
Went to see some close friends of Jimmy's today and found this video. It was a bit emotional for them but otherwise amazed and grateful this video exists. Thank you for posting
Im happy you enjoyed this video. Do you have any stories about Jimmy to share? I try to find more information on him but there is barely any, especially from his later years.
Wow man! Where did you find this? Hope there is going to be more live footage... Love all three of his records, still looking for his last one on vinyl
@@TheMerseySound1 Not Jethro Tull, that's never Martin Barre or Glenn Cornick, but I can see a flautist! According to the BBC Genome, it's probably Love Affair (post-Steve Ellis).
I don't think it's literal, I think it's merely his analogy of blind faith in individuals/demi-gods, cleverly he chooses Hitler (posterchild of hate) alongside/juxta'd with The Beatles (posterchildren of love) as if he's caught between the two, very provocative writing
This bloke was an absolute *genius* and the world needs to rediscover him yesterday.
He can't even sing in tune FFS ! It's awful. Ooh a song about his fucking room, how interesting.

How blessed are we that with BBC's decades long destruction of their own content that this gem survived!

This is incredible! Jimmy Campbell was such an immediate lyricist, very much in a class of his own. I love the Half Baked album, thank you!

Pauline Lievens Unfortunately this is the only known footage of Jimmy Campbell performing.

I’m a very recent Jimmy Campbell convert. Thank you for such a high-quality post. 🙏
I’m elated to see this footage! I’ve been hoping for years to see a video of him performing. This came as a very unexpected treat, thanks so so much!

Who is the band seen just before Jimmy is introduced?
Ah I cant remember right now. I have the full episode somewhere. If I find it Ill let you know.

I think it’s Jethro Tull

UFO and Rare Bird were the Other guests that night.

Last I heard of him (which was not long after this was recorded) he was living in a little flat in New Brighton. Anyone got any updates?
He passed away in 2007
Deeply talented man whose work is inexplicably unappreciated!
He is the type of guy, who the door at Apple Records should have opened for!
too lyrically intelligent for his contemporaries as well as too sensitive
His pitching is painful. Awful !
