I had this LP when I was a teenager and loved it... forgot about it, and woke up this morning with the lines "in my room" in my head... Couldn't remember what song it was, or by whom... My brain sometimes plays these tricks to me. So I started googling and am so happy I found Jimmy Campbell again. Live is full of surprises!
I remember buying this LP in a department store sale (most probably the Grace Brothers store in Parramatta) in the late 1970's I didn't know of Jimmy Campbell or the "Half Baked" album at that time, but as I held the LP in my hands looking at the cover picture of the male and pregnant female clowns with their sad faces it haunted and intrigued me most profoundly and I just felt that I should buy this album out of sheer curiosity, which was a great decision because it would have been a significant loss to me to not have this music and songs in my life, and isn't the lush orchestra backing just sublime and the backing musicians Rockin' Horse just perfect, it is certainly up there in my top 10 all-time favourite albums.
Spencer Leigh, writing Jimmy Campbell obituary on the 14th February 2007, summed Jimmy up. Worth looking for if you have time. Jimmy was a great writer and musician, who just missed the 'Liverpool Sound' boat at the time, probably by design. Jimmy Campbell was his own man, and a lovely sensitive man at that
I've liked this song for many, many years. I've heard so many people sing it around the folk clubs. But why would he have a picture of Hitler on his wall?
This is so good it almost defies belief.
Good friend of mine from waterloo liverpool
Forever missed mate. John
