The vocals by pastiche sound somewhat sad and dark, especially the part that starts at 0:33 and ends at 0:40 . Not to mention, that guitar?? That guitar sounds almost menacing in a way. The little *bang* sounds that play before it also sound like the factory is attempting to work, but is failing badly due to how eggman left it in such a rotten mess. It just overall sounds like it’s saying “well, you tried. Not much to do about this area.” And it’s almost taunting about it. It fits totally into a bad future, but it’s way more subtle about it.
@@Niktheman74478my thoughts exactly. There's a sort of grunge to its quality, which fits pretty well with the sad and dingy state the factory is in. Especially when you get to the higher parts of the bench, with the dim and broken lamps. People just lack imagination I think, and can't easily picture backstories for levels, so they need them spelled out in loud letters "YOU FAILED TO SAVE THE FUTURE!". There's a subtlety to this that most don't seem to appreciate.

Sonic CD always had a unique atmosphere about its levels, and Spencer Nielsen, David Young, Sterling and his crew managed to really show it. The Japanese sound like they fit more of sonic and eggman themselves while these sound like they fit the levels.

The tunes are rad. But US version just captures that vibe. I also prefer the US bad future of Stardust Speedway. Goes well with the lightning in the background for act 3 and sets a dark tone. Not gonna lie though, I think I do like Metallic Madness bad future JP better. But yeah, like you said, JP themes do sound more Sonic-esque, for lack of a better word, but CD is also a different kind of Sonic game, so the US tracks being kind of unique to it seems fitting. There will never be anything quite this atmospheric sounding again, unless it's Tee Lopes doing it.
This soundtrack is amazing, especially since the creator of this soundtrack made all the us soundtracks in 1 MONTH. This is probably the best composed one, because it focuses on one instrument and amplifies the music it is making, which means this soundtrack was probably given more time than the others.

I gotta disagree that this doesn't sound like a bad future song, it's just done more subtly. Compared to the present song, this song has a slower tempo, is lower pitched and almost sounds....worn down in places? It's showing the slow decay of the area.

This Bad Future features Wacky Workbench which is demolished, crumbled and not as lively as it was in its previous years. The mechanisms here are not as functional as they were in the present, and they are now just as hazardous. The warehouse seems it will most likely to crumble at any moment, with many of the support beams and lights adorning the place in widespread disrepair. The checkered floor is constantly flickering uncontrollably compared to its earlier appearances, and atom-like structures generate electricity at four-second intervals, making them much more dangerous. Sonic may have lost to obtain a Good Future here at this time. But should he lives to save the Wacky Workbench Zone, then he must do so right away to travel back in the past and reverse this utter disaster. In other words, he's gotta go fast to stay alive from this disastrous level, or something else WORSE might occur - the COVID-19 Virus spreading around is going to develop an effect on the Hedgehog...
That was how I was with the Japanese soundtrack until I really sat down and listened to it. I still prefer the US soundtrack as a whole, but some JP songs are my preference over the US ones. Except Collision Chaos JP Present, that song still sucks.

While the JPN portrays a collapsing factory, The US version is a factory that was abandoned LONG ago, everything is broken and old, and the rest is more dangerous like the electric stuff being faster.

I love that if you pay attention, the plucky synth still plays the familiar Wacky Workbench motif, yet the rest of the song is entirely different, emphasizing how much the zone's changed under Robotnik's influence. And that guitar buildup... it's ever so tasty. Absolutely my favourite of the 2 versions, just like the Present theme.

This reminds me of the episode of the powerpuff girls where the boogie man blocked out the sun and put eternal night on the planet so all the monsters under the bed could come out to party. While not the same genre it gives the the same vibe. I imagine this place over run with robots that destroyed the place and have taste for funky guitars. Works really well as a bad future track. That guitar riff is sick too 🔥

I think this song has the most in common with the Japanese bad future. It has a very vapid and disconnected tone, with the present bass being sporadically played out in beeps.

This track is one of my favourite Bad Futures. It feels like Wacky Workbench has become a derelict dump, with a grim and grimey atmosphere to boot.

Fact: 90% of people who bash the American soundtrack never listened to all the tracks fully. In my opinion, this runs circles around the JP version.
I still prefer the JP Soundtrack, but the US has gems as well. I like how they diverge in a lot of ways and tell a slightly different story.

While not the same genre it gives the the same vibe. I imagine this place over run with robots that destroyed the place and have taste for funky guitars. Works really well as a bad future track. That guitar riff is sick too 🔥

Before I didn't like this song, but then I listened to it some more and found out that I was made to like it.
I think this song has the most in common with the Japanese bad future. It has a very vapid and disconnected tone, with the present bass being sporadically played out in beeps.
