    I'm used to larger, corded routers th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfQ5_mgwq6PcudJvAH25t-I4D-3cTPz4z so this was a different experience for me. Basically, this is an incredibly sweet machine, fits well in the hand, etc. It has slightly less power than I'm used to, but that's understandable. Maneuvering freehand takes some practice. These days, it's especially nice to be able to avoid power cords. This is above the level of a hobbyist but below a pro level.

    I always enjoy your videos. I have done some simple things for me at home as a hobby. I have the DW 618. I have seen you using some times palm routers. I your opinion which one is the best for the money and durability? I am not super rich but do not mind spending on a good quality product. Is sticking with Dewalt products a better choice? Thank you for any information.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for watching and the kind words. The Dewalts are my favorites but there are some other great routers out there. My favorite right now is the Dewalt DWP611 or even better it the cordless version, the DCW600. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com

    Hi Eric great video as usual but, I would never cut 3/4” in one pass with a 1/4” shank I have seen these snap easily and I’m thinking about Vicky also as they can fly anywhere, I was a kitchen fitter for 25 years and used to cut 40mm worktop with a 1/2” straight cutter but always did 3 or 4 passes to be safe I would suggest at least 2 passes to be safe for your viewers, hope you don’t mind me saying, cheers.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't mind at all. We all have our ways. I've had bits snap before (rarely) but normally when I'm trying to push too hard. Notice that when I'm cutting i'm never at the very edge of the board. If the bit were to snap it would most likely stay in the cut rather then flying. The spiral upcut pulls the chips out of the groove so that also helps take stress off the bit. Obviously this is just my opinion, like I say we all have our ways. Thank you for the feedback, Eric

    Very informative video, and looking forward to Fridays. Couple questions, is it possible to take the base off the router to show the step you were talking about for the guide. Also what how did you router and what bit did you use to make the HDPE templet?

    Looking forward to seeing the carving of the Eagle, it looks really intricate. A quick question on the power of the router that you used, what power is it as I had a 1200 motor MacAlister that I was using to flatten a piece of wood (I was only taking a few millimeters off at a time) and it failed on me stopped working altogether (I'm saving up to get a better one). The reason for the question is that yours went through that pine like a hot knife through butter.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DW618 is 2 1/4 HP. Lots of power.

      Thank you for watching and the nice compliments. I haven't tried the Milwaukee router yet. I've heard great things about it. We don't have a pre drilled base for that currently. However we do have a blank base plate that will work. All you would need to do is drill your mounting holes. Watch our video Senior Moments Episode 15 for how to do it.

    A little late to viewing this, but my question is: when making the permanent template, do you use the router on the “cutting board” material?

    • @oldave100

      Yes we cut the HDPE (cutting board material) with the bit and method. It just may take a couple passes.
