    Also worth noting there's serious merit to pressing the button. You WILL be fighting both swarms either way. If you're seriously bleeding ammo dashing to the pod in both swarms leaves bugs from both swarms in the dust, primes the pod early for your exfil, and saves you a slow drawn out death of nitra starvation. Both options have a place, but clear your swarm if you're comfortable. I guess its sorta funny that way, if I'm comfortable im more inclined to send it and clear the bigger swarm, but if I'm uncomfortable sending it and ignoring the swarm is a pretty tempting option.

      For sure, I made certain to mention that sometimes you DO just have to bite the bullet and hit it. Im mostly trying to remind people that overlapping when things are going alright isnt necessary and to save it for when your experience and judgement call for it. Also to ask the team haha

    but i guess its a lot bigger than what can spawn in an overlap

    • @siirvend
      @siirvend  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +31

      There is, I think its 200 but I may be wrong, its somewhere around that though. Swarm overlaps just get you closer to that limit and can sometimes exceed it a bit but its still more bugs than youd be otherwise dealing with. That and it will spawn the bugs nearer to you rather than keeping the furthest ones out.

      @@siirvend Last time I checked the maximum active bugs at one time is around 60 on Haz 5, which can be doubled by Haz 5+, if you look into the custom difficulty mod this number is probably written in the code for Haz 5 somewhere

    Oddly I had an opposite of this situation occur for me once.
    I was doing a solo Point Extraction on Difficulty 3, it was a double hazard mission with Mactera Plague and Exploder Infestation and the mission was going on too long (10 gems plus a random Dreadnought attack) so the hoards were getting pretty intense. Another swarm was alerted and I didn't want to call another re-supply so I decided to just shove the last gems in and hit the button.
    Then for some reason once I cleared the current bugs and the mineral pod hit orbit... nothing else spawned beyond a few Mactera and a goo bomber, legit a minute or so of quiet while I waited for my ride back. Normally the wait is the worst part, but legit first (and possibly only) time I just walked up to the pod with nothing trailing me.

    I’d like to at least see some discussion involving the OMEN specifically, as unlike other machine events the OMEN has its own attacks, with no swarms.
    Therefore, it is possible to accidentally time a swarm with the press of the button. I’ve got an engrained habit (despite not playing the game for a long while) to start the OMEN when the third swarm message appears (where the wave is done spawning).
    I do think that the OMEN tower should at least damage and target bugs as equally as dwarves, considering that’s what the original programming was for. That way, any accidental activations during swarms won’t have a high risk of mission failure.

    • @siirvend
      @siirvend  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I always try to time OMENs for the minute after a swarm has ended for that reason alone. Those and every other activated event.

    THE KING RETURNS

    @librus107 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    It's important to remember: the bugs are more coordinated than you'd first assume, and they can get annoyed by a tremor a freakish distance away. Additionally, remember that underground, the positions of their roving, burrowing numbers can exist in three dimensions! They're hyperagressive, colonial predators - even if they're not particularly hungry, they will *always* diverge to examine any potential prey. Even if they don't devour victims right away, they'll drag bodies away to hidden little alcoves and store them for later, or as a sort of... way of "sharing" should a hungry pack pass by a few hours later. You might have scavenged some old gear from less-fortunate colleagues from these hidden pockets, even. To them, any unfamiliar tremors, scent or sound is worth redirecting their course towards - Hoxxes is as hostile and unforgiving to its own fauna as it is to us, after all. And the bugs don't have any Abyss Bar or Worker's Rights to take the edge off, either!
    There's *always something* lurking in the walls down there - Dwarves aren't iconically quiet or stealthy folk, but it's wise to plan around any racket all the (cheap-as-free) machinery is going to make. The priority of their design isn't to be quiet, either - it's for them to be easily manufactured, serviced, and functional after being strapped to a drillbit and fired from orbit. Hit those switches accordingly, and remember that 50% of MC's job is to tell you if you've antagonized a swarm as *soon* as they can confirm the readings. These caves may be DRG property, but they belong to the bugs just as much. They'll always know exactly when some machine roars to life, or if a cave gets saturated with enough Dwarf BO. It's not like seeing two freighters crash: two or more swarms at once has never once resulted in any infighting amongst the creepy-crawlies. It takes a lot more than that to confuse the blind (and nearly-blind) critters to turn on each other...
    (Oh my god, you're back again! Always a treat to hear from you, as much as it is to inhabit your comment sections. Very interested to hear what you have to say in detail about the moments most worthy of flipping on a cassette of DRG's best tunes.)

    On another note, it used to be that certain events just "stop" spawning of enemies (boss spawn, droppod) , ages ago. this belief stuck with graybeards and because they got good at the game, the final swarm doesnt seem hard even if they immediately call the pod.

    • @siirvend
      @siirvend  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Definitely agree about Greybeards. They tend to be able to handle the maxed out swarms which can make it frustrating for teammates who aren't at that level of proficiency. And yeah, certain events do actually stop swarm spawns which definitely adds to this confusion. That's the plan later on, to clarify and categorize these differences so people know.

    I feel like triggering 2 egg swarms if you can manage it would be a 1.5x size swarm depending in the enemies spawned and the enemy cap, but i assume im gonna be proven wrong.
    If im low ammo i generally tend to hit the button to gtfo as i tend to make sure we always have 1 or 2 status effect nades like shredders or pheromones so we can kite for the duration of molly strutting her stuff.
    If i know my build is good and i trust my teammate i dont mind popping two swarms at once, feedback loop - bio reactor does wonders x3

    Interesting, I seem to have the same sentiment (doubled swarm is objectively worse, fight one swarm at a time where possible, saving a few seconds or minutes is not worth risking the entire mission) yet in 'normal operating conditions' will often end up approving of pushing the button as a swarm spawns. I wonder if that's pure hubris, or if it's more that, in 'normal operating conditions', I feel my team can more than take on a swarm and therefore more than a swarm is an acceptable risk. Or of course, the out-of-universe explanation that a more daring escape is more fun to play

    • @siirvend
      @siirvend  14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If your whole team is on board and coordinated its very doable to rush through and get to the pod, Ive done it plenty of times too. It complicates things though when you arent communicated and leaving teammates behind or starting things before people have a moment to grab supply or what not. I think it really comes down to the circumstances at the end of the day but this video is more of a "this is ideally what you should do if you want to live" sort of thing.

    When starting an objective that will draw in swarms or extracting, always ask the team if they are ready to go. Ether by asking with voice or just by typing, r? In the comms.

      If you want a short version before the video: every egg will call a mini swarm and all eggs have a chance to call an announced dwarm. 4 eggs have 1 chance, 6 eggs have 2 and 8 eggs have 3 possible large swarms. They can all overlap with eachother and ambient spawns so it can get out of hand fast.

    I usually thought people do this cause escaping to the drop pod is the main focus than combat, which definitely an easy thing to do for Scout and Driller, even Gunner to an extent with his shield. It honestly screws over Engineer though. But I didn't know it was also done on a misconception. Glad you're putting the word out on this though.

      Yeah, its just a bit of push back ai wanted to put out against selfish playstyles that kinda make things hard for people who aren't in board with unnecessarily chaotic gameplay. I'm personally all for reasonable amounts of chaos when I know my team can handle it but it's just mean to force people to be left behind and frustrated in the name of expediency you know?

    • @veryheavyalan
      @veryheavyalan 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@siirvend Definitely, I can deal with situations like those since I have enough experience to adapt and I usually play in other's lobbies which means it totally was their fault for causing that and failing, not mine lol. The swarms of enemies on Point Extractions (random or actual) is a part of that mission. It's telling you to finish it as quickly as you can or be overwhelmed (mostly noticeable past the 25min mission time on Haz 4 and above) by the swarms.

    • @siirvend
      @siirvend  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      As the other commenter Saud, PE swarms get worse over time and cap out around the 15 minute mark. The longer you take the harder it is to clear bugs at all and when you pod get called you get even more frequent spawns so it can get FUBAR fast!

    My main problem with escapes is the 1 or 2 guys running ahead, then waiting at the closed drop pod.
    There is no point in outrunning Molly, and when the last in line goes down you have to run all the way back.
    Even better if the last dwarf is still doing a crate, sideobjectiv or carrying a lump of gold because someone called too early.
    Even even better when they are trying to get out of a hole or other difficult terrain while not being scout or driller, and those who ran off waited at the top for someone else to do the mission.

    • @siirvend

    Great video, some ideas;
    Sometimes cave generation is a bit extreme, in the sense of variation; one mission there is an infuriating combo of exploders and stingtails, the latter pulling you into the former, nitra concentrated in the part of the cave where you haven't been, and teammates who aren't as vigilant as you would like.
    The next mission has greybeards all around you, 3 nitra veins in the spawn alone and a few bulk detonators, who get bullied by scout's single target Dot stack built.
    Swarm overlap is usually caused by me in the latter cases, to make things interesting, (after asking of course,) the few shaved-off minutes are just a nice side effect.
    Another thing is Driller.
    If he does the right thing at the right time, during extraction, the mission becomes very hard to lose, regardless of most enemies.
    The typical drill-extraction is close to a moving bunker, and placing a terrain-hazard before drilling, for example coating the will-be-digsite in sticky flame, goo or a neurotoxin grenade will secure the retreat against unlimited grunts, leaving behind other, tankier threats.
    Exceptions exist, oppressors in particular need constant drilling to escape from, but positioning and massive numbers can be negated.
    This is more of a last resort than usual gameplan, it drains drill-fuel and can be quite simple and one-sided, either you die in the mole-hole you dug yourself, or you crush any bug that's fast while digging away form everything else.

    This is not me trying to be high and might or saying "git gud", but I in my 1000 hrs of playing this game have never seen a team fail in the exfiltration phase of things. Pressing the button during a swarm, therefore, is simply an easy time saver. It can even make things easier since fighting no longer matters and we can feel good about leaving bugs behind us. Dwarves are faster than almost all bugs outside of Haz 5+. Interesting take.

    • @siirvend
      @siirvend  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Ive had a different experience on more than one occasion. Its mostly when someone calls the pod in the dead center of another chaotic situation, even worse when it happens during a particularly bad warning mission like Shield Disruption or Swarmageddon. The other factor that has doomed the team before is when the terrain for returning is particularly weird and we dont have an easy out with a driller. On a typical mission with the normal amount of bugs it is totally doable but its still a bit rude to call things when the team isnt ready and on board for it. Its more of a teamwork/good practice thing, especially when considering all skill levels.

We both called in a hackingpod (magament was NOT happy they had to send 2 intend of reusing one.) and started them up at the same time and nothing at lest on my end the only thing coming was the bucket of bolts the bugs all went to Fox and Baracuta.
