I would like you to know your great version of this song is the one I walked down the aisle to at my wedding. While dating my now husband, the original was one that we will always have great memories to. Though, your approach displayed great homage to Zappa, note for note, you can tell that you know and feel this song. It's completely obvious to those who knows Zappa's solos, such as my husband. We are absolutely certain that your gift filled the room with an extra sense of warmth in the hearts of our guests and our own. Thank you, so very kindly for making a comforting memory, for all of us. We were wed 4/3/21 :)
What a marvelous comment and testimony Audrea! Please know that I plan a shortlist of music that I request to be played at my funeral including this piece. You beginning a life... me ending one. Remember, this is the one that makes Dweezil weep.
That's such a great story, Aundrea. I always thought the composition had a beautiful 'processional' quality to it and this version was perfectly chosen. May all your memories be as special :)
@@BeauJames59 The monologue surely sets the scene for the imaginary guitar solo when Joe knows that freedom of expression has all but gone. It's about hopelessness so it is dystopian rather than poignant or sentimental. Just my take on it.
wow wow wow.... this is amazing... i"m glad youtube's algo is waking up to the good stuff, this should be seen by every Zappa guitar fan in the entire world.
Lovely version of this great composition. I don't know why, but I always cry when I listen to this track. Not great, heaving sobs, but a gentle yet prolonged tear from the eye and a feeling of some sort of sadness within. Can anyone explain why I might feel this way? (I'm not actually bothered; I could listen to 'Watermelon' all day long, every day...
I'm no expert, but might have something to do with the chords chosen for the harmonic progression and its interaction with the melody. It uses suspended chords, which sound unresolved, tense and surprising, just like tomorrow. The melody revolves around an augmented 4th, which sounds elevated, spiritual or holy, out of human comprehension, just like life itself. As I commented on a Zappa's live rendition, this song seems to comprise the meaning of life, which might be that life has no greater meaning at all. We're passengers and should enjoy every moment as its uniqueness requires. It's hard to describe emotions, but I tried, that's how I feel everytime I cry to this tune. Hope it touches your heart and you find some meaning!
You're obviously not a big Zappa fan or you would know that before he died FZ decreed that this composition could only be performed by his offspring. It is one of his signature songs & as such cannot legally be played by anyone but Dweezil. He would NOT be pleased that someone is illegally performing his music.
OMFBob...........THAnk you for all your hard work.....(I assume this didn't come easy) FUUUUUCK it's so SUBSTANTIAL and wonderful....by playing this you are dancing with some awesome muses and you're blessing your brain..........man it must feel good.

I've revisited and shared your TH-cam preformance numerous times now. A beuatiful composition and you give an amazing preformance and interpetation! I am awed at not only how you play both the solo and melodic line together, but the emotional projection of your preformance. This is my favorite Frank Zappa composition and your interpetation has become my favorite. -BRAVO!
Frank Zappa fan for almost 60 years. Amazing. I wish Frank had read the Bible. If he had, he still would have been Frank Zappa, only I believe he would have been a Disciple of Jesus. This, I believe, is Frank's finest composition. He poured his very soul into this.
This is absolutely awful. This is one of Frank Zappa's signature songs, & as such NOBODY IS ALLOWED TO PLAY THIS SONG except Dweezil. This performance is a violation. Legally & morally, it is illegal. SHAME ON YOU.

What a testament to Frank's genius as a composer.
speechless...

That's great. I've never heard it.
i love this version, great job man
It is one unusual piece in FZ's catalogue - unusually moving, and Andrea is doing a fantastic job there. You can feel FZ every second of it.
You almost think with the harsh opening monologue that Frank almost wanted to avoid the poignancy...

Just found, listened to the entire piece and it made me cry - it’s too close to December 4 for the last imaginary guitar solo, I reckon
An amazing rendition of Frank's classic. This song brings on the tears like no other.
Every version of this masterpiece I've heard moves me to tears. That's not to take anything away from this marvelous effort. Beautifully done.
