    I've been going thru them for three months now. It might feel weird to some but there's no pain or discomfort. Your eye is seriously numbed prior to the injection. Your pupils are dilated awhile so the Dr can do the retina scan each visit to track your progress. The procedure is not a big deal.

      I had the injection due to my ZRVO. I actually felt a bit pain (The injection hurts about as much as the marking they do before btw). But all the other patients i talked to didnt feel anything.
      The time after the injection can be problematic (pain,tears,red eye). So if it's the first injection and you dont know how your eye will react after, it may be better not to plan anything for that day.

      Been getting injections in both eyes for about 6 or 7 years. Thank god i just recently become lucky having the shots in each eye every 12 weeks, a lot better than once a month! Yes I do feel pain when that needle hits the eye. Afterwards when the freezing wears off it gets more painful and I usually suffer for about 3 days after with the feeling of dirt in my eye running and watery, discomfort and then my opposite eye joins in out of sympathy. Since sinuses are so close I also get a runny nose. The ride home after having the needle can be very painful depending on how bright the sun is shining. No it isn’t a ball of fun! If you are like some people who don’t suffer side effects or after effects you are fortunate! Oh and btw the thing he puts in my eye to hold it open is also painful! Probably the way he solves it into my eye socket plays a part of that.

    Although I'm still young, I had this in my right eye. Incidentally, I'm a Japanese living in Japan. I was so depressed when I found the fact that I had this. However, an Avastin injection to my eye made my eye become good dramatically. Nowadays, according to an eye test, my right eye is as good as my left eye which is perfectly healthy. I still feel sense of incongruity when I watch something only in my right eye, though.

      Check out the SENS Research Foundation. They've founded a company called Ichor Therapeutics who are hopefully looking to treat age related macular degeneration by removing age related waste products. They are also looking to help us live healthier for longer by treating aging to prevent other diseases like cancer and heart disease as well.
      Unfortunately there is a problem with advocacy and many people are unaware of what SENS is doing. I am part of an advocacy discord server promoting the work of SENS so we can achieve this goal sooner discord.gg/ftSbffu

      Alan: I too had been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration at an early age. I was referred to John Hopkins for a second opinion and it was confirmed. Johns Hopkins recommended that I start taking Bausch and Lomb PreserVision AREDS 2 formula eye vitamin daily. I was told they did a study with an older age group and the vitamin slowed down the progression. I am now in my late sixties and still taking the vitamin twice a day.

    I'm an ex Marine 6'0 220 with tats, and needles scare the crap out of me. In 2016 I was diagnosed with mascular degeneration. I researched a cure and to my dismay 3 injections right in the eye. 2018 my eye is fine. The injections needle are the world smallest, you'll only feel the pressure of the syringe touching you eye, and that last a split second. No sting, no blood, piece of cake. They give you an option of a numbing shot, that I strongly recommend not to take because you don't need it.

    My son has Asperger's Syndrome and so always had problems making friends. Freshman year in HS a senior got in the habit of kicking him down the stairs at the school. I didn't find out until years later. When he was 17 he was diagnosed with leaking blood vessels in the back of his right eye and the only real treatment was like a chemo shot into his eye (at $3,000 per shot). The insurance company would not cover it because it was experimental, but the doctor was so kind as to give Austin the shots anyway for free, he said the world wasn't fair to allow a 17 year old to go blind because he couldn't afford the treatment. Great doctor by the way. My question is this, could the leaky blood vessels have been caused by the senior in HS kicking him down the stairs?

      However, despite my misgivings, it’s a no brainier, if it’s going to save my sight, incidentally there is a strong hereditary factor with this, as both my parents had it ,

    part of the diagnostic process for me was doing a fluorescent angiogram, and the stuff they injected to make my blood fluorescent made me so nauseous omg. i got the saliva pooling in my mouth and thought i was gonna ralph for sure. i didn’t though. the imaging guy said that the feeling nauseous is quite uncommon and really only happens to guys and i’m like swag 👍 i am a lesbian

    My mother was getting injections in her eye for years. It was slowing the progression. Her last visit she got her shot and then she started having severe pain the next day in that eye. She got a “bug” from the shot and now she’s totally blind in that eye. I was just diagnosed with macular in my left eye but don’t know if it’s the wet or dry until a scan is done. I’m hoping I don’t have to have injections after what my mom went through. I don’t think I’ll take the shot if needed.

    According to ancient Ayurvedic teachings, this can be caused by mineral/nutrient deficiencies due to hereditary malabsorption. Find alternative routes to absorbing your minerals/vitamins/nutrients and it may improve the problem. Specific herbs extracted and applied in liquid form can treat this directly. Many herbs include important minerals/nutrients. Look into it before the injection.

My image quality is 24 in the right eye whereas it is 41 in the left eye in the OCT report. I am scared to read some comments regarding injection. I was fortunate that when I was still working the company medical insurance covered it as well as Bayer the manufacture kicked in $300 each time under a plan they have. At 65 the government kicked in and covers the cost. And yes I was told the shots will go on for life! I get them in both eyes and for a long time I was getting shot in both eyes once a month, I do consider the fact the cost is covered because otherwise….

    Since there is no cure for macular degeneration and because of the costs of medication injected into the eye, what are the merits of doing the eye treatments?

    • @OiDavoMate
      @OiDavoMate 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sarah McCoy If you're talking about the injections into the eye, they are only done when the macula degeneration goes from dry to wet as shown in the video. Vision in these patients who go dry to wet have bad vision when it's dry to almost blind when it's wet depending on how much blood has leaked out. The treatment aims to stop the leaking blood to return their macula degeneration to it's dry status. I know I'd pay for treatment if my two options were stay blind or have bad vision

    • @sarahmccoy1941
      @sarahmccoy1941 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +OiDavoMate
      But the treatment is not a cure. It is just a procedure down to slow down the disease, isn’t it? I mean the bottom line is that eventually the sight will be lost in the eye because there is no cure. It seems like sometimes the treatment is about as bad as the disease itself.

    • @OiDavoMate
      @OiDavoMate 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sarah McCoy Yes and no. Not a cure by any means, but the aim of the injections is to revert patients AMD back to their dry status. Everyone's eyes are different so every patient's sight will deteriorate at very different rates. You can get some people who deteriorate rapidly to a point but stay stable after that (or stable long enough until they you know.. pass away). But if they suddenly develop wet AMD their vision will go from bad to blind. Doing the injections will bring back their vision to just bad as opposed to being blind which will let them enjoy life a little longer. Yes there is the likelihood of their vision continuing to go deteriorate, and most definitely everyone's eyes will respond differently to the injections, but I guess its all about what you're willing to do to improve what little sight you've got left

    • @sarahmccoy1941
      @sarahmccoy1941 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +OiDavoMate
      One last thing. What about the cost? I understand that some of these anti-VEGF injections are very experience. I do not have great insurance, so it is going to come out of my pocket. I know balancing eye sight versus money is tough. But we live in America where insurance profits are more important than patients getting great health care.

    • @OiDavoMate
      @OiDavoMate 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sarah McCoy Tricky for me to say I'm sorry. I'm from Australia where most of the cost of injections are subsidised by government and patients mainly need to fork out the ophthalmologist's consultation fee and procedure. Certainly those who have good response from injection would benefit greatly from continuous injections to prevent further recurrence of wet AMD. But yes, balancing eye sight vs money is incredibly tough

    Now I saw this video. I think I have 2 blacks in my Right Eye. It's so small like a dot of ballpen.. it follows the movements of my eye... 😢

    F those eye diseases.
    Everyone should have 20/10 vision. Anything else is a loss of life quality in my eyes.

    I have my eyes checked every year, is this something that can be diagnosed early?

    • @ElizabethSmith-fm6we
      @ElizabethSmith-fm6we 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      adelgado75 yes that's why its so important to see an eye doctor every year or at least every 2 years. There are so many things that can be detected in an eye exam.

      You need to do it yourself to find out, close one eye and look at a text or a straight line if the text looks warped or the lines seemed wavy, go tell a doctor about it, look for metamorphopsia to know what I mean it usually affect one eye so check them one at a time

    I got it after a Christmas tree limb caught my eye & scratched it, then I was bitten by a Hobo spider which nearly took my arm & my eye. I am having surgery. I have a hole in the center & I see wavy at times. Distortion sight was my first symptom.
