First Fish of 2024

I had a few hours to spare, and I decided to grab two rods and my minnow bucket to head over to a small pond on Maryland's eastern shore. I just wanted to feel a fish, any fish, pull my line. This would not be a kayak trip, crabbing trip, or a head boat trip. This just an outing to get that bug off of my shoulder, and to feel the satisfaction of a fish on my line. I did manage in two hours to get my first fish of 2024. There was not a lot of action at the pond, but catching a couple of fish was fun. It was cold in the morning, but the temperature eventually made if to 49 degrees or a little higher, just before the winds really picked up.

Do you really pronounce that fish as CROPPIE or do you do that for the camera? Everybody I know from MD say CRAPPIE.....LOL

LOL... yeah, I sometimes pronounce it both ways.

Just curious, why stop at Walmart to get hooks if you are going to Anglers anyway??

LOL.... Since this was a last minute trip, I needed some small hooks. Typically, Walmart is much cheaper for small hooks for crappie, perch, and brim. If I was going for trout, rockfish snakeheads or flounder, then I would get them at Anglers. Also Walmart was on my way to Anglers, so it was nothing for me to stop in and see what they had.

My favorite kind of fishing once deer season ends. Love hitting the mill ponds on the shore to get some fresh crappie

First time for me trying a pond. I have caught them in the rivers and trolling on big lakes before. It is fun. I cannot implore how fun it is to see a bobber dive down due to a fish.
