  • This video covers the completion of my Colonial One model kit. It includes a brief tutorial on scribing and using pastels. It also covers the making of the display base. A couple of notes, the LEDs themselves were superglued in place vs using hot glue. Also it was just personal preference that I didn't drill out every window.

    I just finished my 2nd rewatch and this one is my favorite ship for some reason. It looks cool makes me wish I had the skill to do that.

    This turned out great Oggie! I actually like the area were the decal broke; it looks more natural even if it is not canon. I would probably add a scorch mark there to show a glancing blow from the Cylons! The base is a very nice touch and the glow of the spot lights looks great to me even though it was not intentional; gives it a futuristic feel!

      +Marc Fraley Thanks Marc. Yes someone else had suggested the same thing about the decal. I just may do that. As always I appreciate your kind comments.

    Looks fantastic, nice job indeed!!!!! By the way, just got my Galactica UPGRADE surface decals...all 1000+ of them along with the upgrade guns from your friend and mine, Cultman TV. Thanks so much for demonstrating those and recommending them. Your Battlestar Galactic looked incredible with them, soon....had to have um. Thanks for sharing your techniques, really like your channel.

      Thanks my friend, I do indeed plan to start filming my builds, editing and posting on TH-cam sometime this year. After 30+ years in Radio and Television (now retired) I might as well. Your Colonial One really looks sharp!

    Great build, one I want for my collection. Have you tried using canopy glue for the light leaks? you can squeeze it into the gap and wipe over to get rid of the access then paint over.

    Quite a collection of the BSG series, including the original shuttle too. On the camera, could you change the aperture to soften the brightness when shooting your videos?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +centaur1a I'll look into that. I've never really tried changing any of the settings with this video camera. I'm pretty good with an SLR but not so much with a video camera. Thanks

      +PFMANN1 Hi....I learned by watching youtube tutorials. Check out Modelmantom's channel and look up LED lighting. He's got some good ones. The other thing that made it easier was buying pre-wired LEDs and easy to work with switches. Modeltrainsoftware.com has some great pre-wired stuff. I also I bought a cheap soldering iron. Just practiced soldering to become more comfortable with it as well but it's not that hard to learn. Once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.

    Question? I'm a new subscriber you used to build models when I was younger and looking at your collection I could not help but wonder where you keep them all? Do you have a special 2nd two-story home? Just curious....

      Ah, the age old dilemma for every modeler...space. Well...I am fortunate to have a separate room for my stuff. My kids are older and I now occupy their old play/game room. Even with this, I am running out of room.

    Saw your BSG collection at the end of the vid. Q: Where did you get the original BSG shuttle?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rocko112camaro Hi....thanks for watching. The BSG shuttle is a resin kit that I purchased a number of years ago from Federationmodels.com. I think they still sell it. Unfortunately, it's not a very accurate likeness of the ship so just bear that in mind if you're looking to buy it.

    Why go threw the trouble of applying those blue decals when you can easily airbrush the blue color in less time and color would match, even though you used decal solution they still don't sit properly over those raised details, I also saw your viper red markings decals with same results.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments but i dont find airbrushing detailed surfaces all that easy to do.

    • @gfollano7529
      @gfollano7529 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure I understand what you mean by " that much details" just use Tamiya masking tape which conform to all those little raised detail and you can curve tape to all sorts of shapes, paint wont bleed threw, I use it all the time, edges come super sharp and clean, once you try it you won't go back to decals. You can see my viper and cylon build to links below all the stripings are airbrushed on, even the green octagon symbols on the Cylon are airbrushed on using masking templates.www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=233883&highlight=moebius+viper+finishedwww.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=230726&highlight=moebius+viper+finished

      +g follano Nice work......sorry, bad working on my part (typed it on my phone)...what I meant was I've had trouble in the past with paint bleeding through no matter how hard I've tried. I have used Tamyia's masking tape too. You're Viper looks great.

    • @gfollano7529
      @gfollano7529 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I want to thank you for sharing your builds I really love the different kits you built, I only wish I had the patience lighting models like you do they look great! I actually got the Tamiya weathering kit after seeing your video and it works great, especially for the small streaks that's what I used on my Viper with some pastels aswell.
      Maybe your going too heavy with the paint do light coats if too heavy its more prone to peel on edges when removing tape, I like to remove the tape before paint is fully cured within 15 minutes to avoid paint from peeling on edges, but again using paint threw a airbrush you shouldn't have bleeding problems.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +g follano Thanks for the tips. I will definitely give this a shot the next go around. I was actually tempted to peel off that blue decal but I had gone so far in the build and just moved forward. Again thanks for watching and am glad you found the Tamiya weathering kit helpful. I really like it too.
