      @James Merryman The difference is geography! Outside of the Scottish Highlands, most of the UK is fairly flat and easily accessible on foot, whereas much of Japan, South Korea and southern China are mountainous, inaccessible and cannot be built on. As a result, East Asia's forest cover has been left alone, whereas in Europe, the forest was long ago converted into farmland.

      @@arpandastradeenglishforeig2856 Your writing this on a phone in which the factory it was produced in caused pollution and utilized natural materials. If we didn't use our resources to make life more enjoyable and easier, than what should we use it for? Of course, we must use it in moderation so as to be sustainable, but you have to understand that other developed nations must use their natural resources if they want any chance of being an economic superpower on the global scale. Just because Suriname chose to go on an extreme to preserve their forests doesnt mean it's the right way. You need a balance of the environment and the development of your economy in a capitalistic world. I mean, it's no wonder Suriname is barely ever mentioned in pretty much anything, 99% of people haven't ever even heard of Suriname.

When I started looking at pollution stats in the late-2000s and early-2010s, Chinese cities were at the top because China was in its peak growth phase. But smog levels in Chinese cities have actually been trending down due to increased environmental consciousness, the government closing down coal plants, and huge investments made in renewable energy. India is today in the same place China was 15 years ago. e.g. Delhi's smog level is currently much worse than Beijing. Also, the article about forest cover recently reported that BOTH China and India increased their forest area.

I know we aren't very densely populated country and only have 5,5 million people but still i'm very proud of that. - Ireland has so few forests. Thought they would have more considering it is so green.

    - Mexico and USA are just about tied at 33.9%
    - Spain has more than America

    • @Novusod

      @James Merryman On the East coast of America any vacant land that is just allowed to sit will reforest itself in about 20 to 30 years. I have seen this happen myself in my own lifetime. There was a shopping center I used to go to when I was kid but today it is a forest. After the store closed the owners knocked the building down and put up a "for sale" sign. In the two decades the land sat empty it turned back into a wooded lot. Nature here is very aggressive at reclaiming things. Maybe Ireland has poor soil so nothing can regrow there.

      In fact, it is meaningless .Because the reference base year of GDP is different in different country.the reference prices of different base year are different, even though the actual GDP of different countries is the same , but the nominal GDP based on different price is different. In addition, different countries have different types of industries. Commodity housing in some countries will be converted into rent into gdp, and some will not. Some countries count their feces as gdp, while others do not.

    SO MUCH BETTER than the previous video!!! i assume that this was a per country basis: percentage of forest cover given the total size of each country. now an additional stat would be the percentage of forest cover of the country measured against the total size of forest cover for the whole world... obviously, the percentage of forest cover of the BIGGER countries would have a greater impact if measured against the TOTAL FOREST COVER OF THE WORLD... therefore the accute concern for forest cover in countries like Brazil, Indonesia, Russia, etc. THANK YOU so much for this video.

    • @loghan93
      @loghan93 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tony de Castro mate the other video was more accurate on how much forest it had as it said how many square km that mean how many trees and how large the forest it
      But this one just shows how much of the country it’s covered in forest therefore u don’t know how big the forest is, for eg it could be a every smal country but 60% of it is covered in trees but then there could be a big country only covered by trees by 35% but the bigger country has more square km of forest
      Ur a cabbage and go to school

      @tonydecastro6340 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@loghan93 no, not more accurate, or at least the information was not given about what the percentage of forest cover referred to. was it to total land area of the earth? or to the total forest cover of the earth? what this current video also provides is information on how each country is faring in its forest conservation efforts. a small country still merits congratulations for keeping its forest cover to a certain sustainable percentage of that country's total land area. and i did acknowledge that the bigger countries have a greater responsibility to the whole world re their own forest cover. this is the reason why the Amazon rain forests are so crucial for the whole planet!!! still, each country needs to do its own in preserving the forest cover within their own territories.
