    I'm certain that you have created the most educational fragrance channel. It is a channel that is ( refreshingly) worth my viewing time. No foul language or ridiculous antics. Not a cheap random girl in bikini survey channel. I value your perspective. BTW could you recommend other TH-camrs who have a similar relevant education and credentialed fragrance evaluators? Life is short and I'm done with listening to the opinions of those who lack professional designations. STAY CLASSY!

      Yea, but a woman shouldn't smell like civet either. Chanel was getting at clean skin, which is why Ernest Beaux used the overdose of aldehydes.
      Btw, my masculine analogue of The Scent of a Woman, i.e. The Scent of a Man, is Polo by Ralph Lauren.

    My most animalic perfume is Givenchy Gentleman 1974. Civet, patchouli, honey and leather bomb. Pretty animalic in the opening because of the honey and the civet top but then gets earthy from patchouli and the russian leather with the civet in the back. Greetings

    Two by Zoologist perfumes that i quite enjoy, Musk Deer, a pretty textbook musk done to perfection in my opinion; and then Hyrax, which is a pretty "skanky" animalic fragrance, tip-toeing the line of wearability, but i still think its wearable.

    I love your demeanour and more intelligent analysis, it really is a breathe of fresh air. But on no.1 I’d love to hear a few more personal insights into it except mentioning what it’s called. I too love Musc Ravageur as a man, and I’m worried it’s too much sometimes (it’s a beast for sure), but I appreciate it’s affect. Love it all so far so keep up the great work - but don’t skimp on the conclusion if you can add a couple of minutes on the best 👍

    To me the best classic animalic fragrance for men is Chanel Antaeus, with the same atomic power than Kouros but elegant and sofisticated something that Kouros never was, in this case Antaeus use castoreum, don't get me wrong I like Kouros (I have a vintage bottle in my collection) but to me Antaeus is superior in every aspect and another classic that nobody talks nowadays is Diva by Emanuel Ungaro, this one used to be my kryptonite, this was tremendously sexy and totally drove me crazy, I used to ask my girlfriend to use it often just because that used to awake my most primal instincts, this one used civet in its composition, unfortunately although all these 3 fragrances are still on the market the reformulations resulted in fragrances that in some cases are just a watered down version of the original and in others like the Diva totally ruined the fragrance, saludos desde Monterrey, Mexico!

    • @Finn959
      @Finn959 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is today’s Antaeus still good or was it reformulated?

    • @dm4life90
      @dm4life90 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Finn959 in my opinion modern Antaeus still is quite good. The magic is still there, unlike Kouros which modern variants (later L’Oréal era, white-shouldered bottles) aren’t that special.

    I've always had trouble with animalics in general. Too much funk. But in the right amounts, in the right way, very controlled and judicious, they can impart a je nais se qua (or however its spelled!) to a frag. I love vintage, "old school classics, and evidently many of them used a proprietary concoction known as Animalis, which used costus root among other things. That gives a very slightly funky halitosis-like accord that is much better than it sounds. Here are a few of my favorite frags that seem to have this dimension:
    Hermés Equipage (1970)
    Floris Elite (1980)
    Then there are a few favorite frags I have with animalic notes done well:
    New York Intense by Parfums de Nicolai
    Monsieur by Lancetti
    Danger by Roja (although the nasty cumin complicates it)
    I hate Kouros. Nasty. Even the creator, Pierre Bourdon, said he doesn't like it.
    It sounded like you said Le Male, as in JPG Le Male, but I can't imagine that is what you meant. What was it?
    Oh, and according to the book Floating Gold, a book about ambergris, the origin and nature of ambergris is pretty settled: its whale poop, not vomit.

    I love anamalic fragrances. Especially Chanel Antaeus, Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme, YSL Kouros, Chanel No 5 EDT and surprisingly Cartier Santos which doesn’t contain any anamalic ingredients at all

  • @cryptogoose8817
    @cryptogoose8817 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    when talking about KOUROS you mentioned LeMale ? I dont think you meant LeMale (from JPG): did you misspeak? or is there another LeMale that you are referring to ? LeMale (JPG) is well regarded as a more modern Fougere: freshy clean with classic barbershop tones - not animalic is any way - by smell or by note breakdown. Can you advise ?

    • @Gonzalo_K

      I was thinking the same, maybe she was referring to MAAI

    • @ashleyinparisvideos
      @ashleyinparisvideos  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re totally right, it is absolutely a fougere and I should have clarified a bit more. While it’s not Animalic, it has this very sweaty cumin note that at least on me keeps it from smelling clean and veers on animalic.

  • @andrewbhurvitz6298

    I had blind bought Jicky a couple of years ago after reading it was a feminine perfume that suited a man. When it came to my house, I opened it, sprayed it, and found it sickening. But then, just as you said, I gave it time, and gradually it settled into something milder, less civet, more lavender, and the combination of the two was unique. I would still not say it is a favorite, but rather an odd, acquired taste I sometimes sample. The civet undertone is not appealing to me, but I ignore it and try to go along with old fashioned oddity of the scent.

Um no some of the things other Channels suggest smell downright funky as hell. No normal person around you would smell them and be like omg you smell so good. More like omg were you assaulted by a skunk?! 🤣 I blind bought one because it was on a limited time sale half off.
