Remember that goats are capable of breeding at 3 months. It’s best to not breed a brother and sister. You might look for breeding service outside of the family line when the female is at breeding age or buy a non related male goat. Keep the bloodline healthy! Just FYI.

Maybe an exchange of goats with another family with unrelated goats.. rather than having to purchase another goat.. just exchange with someone that needs an unrelated goat too?

I personally recommend not going with electric netting for a fence. I have seen many bad endings using that stuff.

on your wire fences with goats you want to get the taller fences so they are not trying to jump over it and yes the smaller squares are better

Y’all should do some research into famacha testing. Parasites in goats are very hard to manage in our area. Copper boluses will help also! Wishing you much success in you new goat adventures!😊

❤I love watching your baby goats and was wondering that since the stay together and while you are able to watch them, if you only tie one up, won’t the other stay with the one who’s tied? You could train them that way and once they see you guys as part of their family, they’ll stay and follow you as you are their “leader.”❤️🙏😘

When you find yourself with time to pet and visit the goats, try bringing Luna on a leash and see if they get along. Eventually Rox & Ant will be ready to bring their goat home. If you have not found a second goat, that leaves Cappy alone. Now is the time to work with Luna to make her a livestock companion dog. Eclipse became a very good one! Just trying to help! ❤❤

I love the leash idea! People used to use goats to pull wagons back in the day look it up it's very awesome Once they grow into those harnesses you could use them for doing work or just having fun with the kids riding around in wagons

Mel I saw some plastic chain lock collars on another homestead that they left on their goats all the time and if you had some of those you wouldn’t have to put a collar on them every day and that would be easier for you and they aren’t tight so the collars won’t bother the goats and they had a lot of goats just fyi
It will be such a relief when you are moved in the cabin. It will become a place of rest and family time not a place of work❤❤❤❤❤❤

I see the chain hook up on the goats. You either have been coached well or have been around goats to know they chew up anything that can be eaten. They can eat clothes & shoes so even human goods are not automatically off limits in their books. You look natural with your new buddies.
At first I thought Ant was upset with Dave that he didn't keep the goats longer. I could understand it was kinda him joking after you explained you were pretty much ready for them so could take them both now.
I thought it was wonderful he offered them to you both especially since they did mean a lot to him being first born on the mountain & their heritage. All good, I'm glad.
You can pick some greens like you do the rabbits & toss the goodies into the barn when you put them away.

Food or pets?
Just like with our Rabbits, we will have some that we treat at "pets" that will be our breeders - but their offspring will be for meat and milk. I know some don't like it but it is what it is. 🤗
