You grow this channel diligently for 6 years. You finally get a big break with some big name engagement, some leverage to get a spike in your subscribers, finally all your work pays off. Except... you decide to stamp out that spark by whining. All that potential good that could have come to you... gone. Why would you do this to yourself?

Some things like principles are worth more than personal benefits and number of TH-cam subscribers.

@@chessentials4261Sorry if it's rude but exactly what principles are getting violated when someone's reacting and appreciating your content?

@@Priyanshu9056 That react content is bad, harmful and exploitative. If you wonder why I say that, search DarkViperAU and watch his anti-react series.
Although after today I am not sure if reacting to parody should be put in the same category as, say, reacting to a 60 min documentary. Will consult with some close people and potentially reach out to Hikaru’s team.
But first need to sleep over it since the amount of hate has been unreal.

@@Priyanshu9056 I mean reaction content in general is a mixed bag as to its benefit for the original creator, but when the subject matter of your video is the one making commentary on it, surely that's an exception, right?

@@bobbobert9379 I am not sure. If someone made a detailed documentary about Hikaru’s life, he still wouldnt have right to react in it in entirety, right?
I agree parody is fundamentally different (since it is shorter and different character). But still not clear to me if reacting to it is okay or not. Especially since it wasnt PURELY about Naka and, say, his stream - but about Candidates tournament in general. (Although even if it was - not sure if it changes anything)
Sure, I could have let it go, but I really feel strongly about this React thing. Maybe too strongly…

I came to see what everyone was talking about on from hikarus page and bro you’re talented, this is really funny. It’s certainly not easy to do, and you could grow something that can even aid in growing the chess world! I saw your arguments in regard to why you’re against reactions but tbh they don’t make sense to me. I could go deeper but eh idc enough, but don’t waste your talent.

Hey man, i know and understand that you hate reaction videos, I hate most of them too, but don't you think that you could have benefited a lot more if you just would have let him use your content? I mean it's a win win situation, you get plenty of subscribers and eventualy you could monetize your videos. It will be hard now with all the hate to grow.

    • @chessentials4261

You don’t think I wasn’t aware of this when I decided to send that email and ask team Hikaru to remove the video? Even if I could have benefited (and it is something that can be debated) - I didn’t want to bend my principles for my personal benefit.
Especially since I had some plans to do other content and wanted to avoid the potential situation where someone reacts to it, I ask them to remove the video and then people go “Oh yeah, you didnt have anything against React content when you were just beginning”.
And yeah, I am aware that all this hate makes it hard to make new content (especially Hitler videos). But on the other hand, chess world has a memory of a goldfish and moves from one drama to another sooo we will see.
Although this episode makes me doubt whether I want to be doing any TH-cam stuff to begin with.

Yeah. A completely rational response “this goes against my principles, so if you don’t act exactly as I want I will abuse of the system and put at risk years of your hard work”

You do realize the reason people don't like react content is because people just watch the original and add no value to it. I can see asking someone like XQC to take it down because he would add nothing, but Hikaru added value to your original video. You added subtitles to someone else's video and that's ok, but Hikaru adds his thoughts to yours and it's a suddenly it's a problem? His thoughts and input transform your video into something it wasn't. I get it, most react content is nonsense and takes away from people's views, but there is no issue where people actually do react to something and give their feelings, especially when it's about them.

@@chessentials4261 I’m sorry for the hate you’ve been getting. I think some of it and also the way they are phrased are uncalled for, and I hope you know that you don’t deserve that amount of lashing - ultimately it’s your video, your choice. People are just trying to understand why it affected you so much. (Frankly I’m still trying to too) but they can afford to approach you more kindly.
To that point, I wanted to say that I’ve read all your responses in the comment section but I’m still struggling to arrive at why you’re against it and how it’s not matching with your principals. You mention a little but don’t go in depth and say it’s exploitative. How is it exploitative? Is it exploitative to the original creator (aka you)? Can you explain that more specific to your video (which in this instant is a parody that’s 4 mins long)?
That said, I agree and am surprised Hikaru’s team didn’t do the due diligence of sending you a note prior to them uploading. It would have been a nice thing to do and could have sparked a different conversation with you.
      Hope you’ll get through this!

Too many people watching streams of high level players and thinking being a piece down = death sentence. I would be playing out that match against anyone under 1800 because chances are they will blunder at some stage. If not it’s still a good opportunity to practice your end game.

    • @chessentials4261
      @chessentials4261  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah I am not sure about the exact rating (whether 1800 is a bit too high) and it also depends a bit on the time control and the type of position, but on this level, I do think an extra piece is not a losing factor yet. If nothing else, you can practice trying to put up resistance and playing in bad positions.
Nice to see you in my comment section, btw :). Hope you are doing well!
