It feels like I've been waiting years for this army. Thanks to @officialwarhammer I got the launch box early to get some tutorials ready for you guys, as well as some time to work out what schemes/cities I wanted to include in my army! For Launch Day, I painted up this Hammerhal Aqsha Knight, as well as a Misthávn infantry model which will be on my Patreon later today! Be prepared to take your time with these models, they're not difficult to paint...but they do take a lot longer than you'd expect, even with the infantry. With that in mind, I'm glad I can use different schemes across the army so I don't go insane painting the same intricate details again and again with the same colours. Hope you enjoy this video, and let me know if you have any schemes in mind you'd like to see me tackle!

Being super duper detailed is wahmmers like #1 aesthetic
That’s very true.
Not really, its clean and thematic models. Plus details are not that simple obviously.
This is detailed in areas you dpnt need. Not a good thing. Unless you dont paint or paint minimalistic like most which is wasted on "detailed" models haha.
Love the human factions like Empire and Bretonnia, just a bunch of guys fighting with Faith, Steel, and Gunpowder (or lots of horses!)
Agreed 100%. And yes maybe a few horses.
The extra detail makes them easier to paint. Zenithal highlight and contrast paints make light work when theres more texture, bits, and bobs.
Yeah that’s a very good point!
Fantastic work on this guy! These new models give me massive Oldhammer Britonian vibes. I can't wait to see how the new units look when you've painted them up.
Same. Got the new infantry models as my patreon video today. They were even more fun then the knight.
Great color scheme and man these new models look amazing.
There 10/10 amazing.
Really lovely line of models, great work Andy
Cheers pal.
Mate what a wicked video, enjoyed watching this and your outcome at the end. WELL DONE.
Cheers pal. Very kind.
Wonderful color composition! Great job.
Appreciate it pal.
Love these new miniatures it was my second army in the hobby almost 20 years ago so super excited to get my hands on this box. Ps amazing job on the videos lately your not far off the warhammer official videos in terms of views 👍
That’s so kind pal. Thank you so much.
Great looking mini. Look forward to painting the knights as already have ideas starting to bubble up lol
Yes they’re definitely an army that will spark a lot of creativity for people!
Great Video Andy, Thanks. I can't help thinking these guys might make great Rough Rider Conversions...
They mite. I feel like it would be a lot of work.
Wood was used to craft the frame for saddles and sometimes still is. Great paint scheme!
Did it know that. That’s cool.
Fantastic job Andy! That orange works great
Cheers pal.
Awesome paint job 🔥
Cheers pal.
He looks so good. It's great inspiration for my box, when it arrives...
Awesome, there’s so many schemes to choose from in the battletome!
Cities of sigmar really caught my eye, I loved the Empire in oldhammer
A man of true taste.
Beautiful. You make that orange look so easy.
Hahah cheers pal. Two thin coats made it look easy.
Beautiful figurine and very well explained. It makes me want to paint. Hello from France
Well hello pal. And I’m glad your liking the videos pal.
Beautiful. Also, Empire, Cities of Sigmar, Guard and Black Templars... Really small Venn diagram with my favourites!
Hahaha you sound like me.
I kind of like painting more detailed models because they pick up washes, drybrushing etc better, and have more obvious places to edge highlight if i want to. I usually base coat with contrast paints so the more differences I have in value once I finish that, the easier it is to apply the other highlights and shadows.
I agree 100% pal.
They are definitely too detailed. In my humble opinion, they crossed the line here and made it less fun to paint because of it.
I've just finished the Terminators from the Leviathan Box, they reminded me how much fun it is to paint models that are not overly "busy".
They are for sure very busy. But having painted a knight and an infantry now they were quite fun to paint. My plan to keep them interesting is to do a different city colour scheme for each unit. I think I will enjoy that a lot.
Yeah and they took away my beloved Shadow Warriors which were still nice sculpts and quite easy to paint. All they needed were some new bits, like helmetless heads or never dynamic Weapon poses, but naaaah they took them out completly. :/
@@burnbobquist8999 they will for sure be back with old world.
That’s a stunning mini, and yeah if it were me I’d definitely be painting them all different heraldry’s like the old bretonnians for visual interest and to save the sanity hehe.
Ye for the knights I feel that is that way I will go. There so so nice.
I love the silver and orange combo. I might to some of my own models this way. I have some conquistador models from titan forge that this latter would look great on.
Sounds great man! Yeah give it a go on them as well, this army will be a lot of fun for trying out ideas that we might use for other stuff too!
He looks really great. Fantastic job as always. I had a pretty massive Empire army back in the day. They were cool. Personally I'm kind of interested in the Bretonians when the old world stuff drops.
Oh I shall be doing a whole series in old world so don’t you worry about that.
Excellent! I can't wait for that!
These look a little bit easier to paint compared to dawnriders!
Edit: The paintjob was great!
Cheers pal. And for sure easier.
I main soulblight but i am in love with the new cities of sigmar. They were in desperate need of new plastic
Yes they were and we are not disappointed.
Looks incredible. I always hated painting Orange. Going to have to give those two thin coats a go!
There really fun to work with. Worth your time.
Love the video, just wondering if you or anyone else has an idea how I would dull down the orange almost, to an autunmnal russet colour? Its in my head but not sure how to make it work
That would probably involve starting with browns and then just highlighting with oranges. If that makes sense.
AoS desperately needed a more grounded army.
Agreed. And I think these will do nicely.
Be good to see Ironbreakers done as they can really be done amazing but never know how lol
I do like the iron breaker models.
Im just excited for Bretonnia to return, love knights and shinning armor :). I am thinking about collecting Cities of Sigmar army just hoomans tho.
Oh solid choices. I’m working on both.
AoS hands down has the best minis.
100% agree.
I would be really tempted tempted to paint the free guild in house Lannister colour’s from a game of thrones
You sir are one of my new Favourite people. I love Lannister colours and have been so tempted to paint an army in them. Maybe bratonions.
@@MediocreHobbies bretonoins would work well with Lannister colours but i recon with the bretonons fondness for stag antlers they would be more suited for Baratheon colours
The community is impossible to please in principle:
1. Make the miniature smooth or minimalistic, so they will say that "the Oldhammer models were so high detailed!"
2. Make the model heavily detailed, they will say "too much detail, hard to paint, or the model is overloaded/overweighted."
Yep, there will always be complaints!
Lovely job as ever but would have opted for something darker and grimier
Totally fair to have different plans!
Hi Andy. I'm curious. I'd have done the metallics after the initial contrast basecoat rather than before. Is there something weird about using metalllics over contrast? I usually count on them to cover any mistakes from the rest of the basecoat. Sometimes we make these decisions cos a paint is easier to use and it's still before the second coffee of the morning ;)
Looks fab btw
Either works pal. It changes from model to model.
Awesome paint job! But at 400 bucks for the box all I can say is...HAVE THEY LOST THEIR FREAKING MINDS?????
You must be down under. Cos it’s €155 here so that’s three units two characters and the special codex. Not to bad.
Where in God's name are you seeing it for 400$
What paints were used for the base?? Thanks
It’s just dark earth texture paste from AK drybrushed ryza rust drybrushed bone. Rimmed black. Supper simple.
I actually bought the cavaliers as my first try in this hobby... what have I done
It’s only paint. See what works, see what doesn’t, if you’re not happy, you can always strip the paint and start over. You got this.
Yes. It is a problem with modern war hammer
Yes. More and more sneaky tips and tricks are needed to get through my warhammer.
I do honestly think that GW need to dial it back on the complexity and level of details of their most recent releases and moving forward. I think it will begin to hurt them long term. Don’t get me wrong, the models look amazing, But looking amazing isn’t enough if the thought of attempting to paint an army intimidates you beyond the will to complete it, due to the excessive level of detail for details sake.
I remember when GWs drive was to get young people into the hobby, I was part of that target demographic and it worked. My first army was vampire counts. Even as a young novice painter, most of the models were absolutely a decent tabletop standard. If then, I had something like this or the likes of lumineth to contend with, I’d of probably fallen out of love with the hobby.
I still feel they do Greta work getting people in with the likes of marines and stormcast but yes some armies I do feel you need some Experience to get rite.
@@MediocreHobbies my concern with that is that if it carry’s on in the direction it’s going in, we’ll have an entire generation of hobbyists that will all play stormcast or space marines because the insane detail will only appeal to competition painters and not the tabletop.
@@noticer786i feel like there's still a lot of easy to paint armies out there. My first ever warhammer purchase was the old start collecting box for Sylvaneth and I feel like they're not a bad place to start as a beginner unless you're jumping right into a more detailed smaller model like the arch revenant. I also paint Nighthaunt and those aren't bad at all though I suppose it depends how detailed you want to get with it.
Contrast and speedpaints have also made it super easy to get something half decent looking, and most places that do casual play don't even require you to paint... i don't think the problem is as bad as you think
@@soogymoogi not as bad as I think currently, granted, but if they continue on the current trajectory, maybe not so much.
I love heavy detailed models. And you do an amazing job on the models you! If people dont like all the details then dont buy or just dont paint all the details. But i disagree personally with complaining about it. Just my opinion.
It’s the internet, people will always complain 😄
The latest generation of plastic figures are difficult to build, fragile, and take a long time to build and paint. The re-released plastic Bretonnians are to my liking and hopefully they will re-release the old Empire knights.
I agree on that. I mean I love all the new models. And I enjoy painting them even with the bit of extra detail. But I hate building them. And yes empire knights back would be great.
I literally cant bring myslef to buy them because my painting wont do the price justice, feels like a waste makes me more bloody depressed.
Can’t agree with that pal. You don’t have to paint them amazing. Just tons standard glue happy with. I hate the idea of people missing out on Models because of that.
@@MediocreHobbies oh I agree hugely with you! I’m just not doing great so it’s where I’m at at this time that’s all
@@carlofhodgy1501 sorry to hear your not in a good place pal. Hopefully it gets better soon. Maybe join one of the twitch streams and try get some hobby done there chatting with people.
AoS > 40k
HahahHa fair.
I love heavy detailed models. If you dont then dont buy or just dont paint all the details.
Totally agree, it’s just sad to see some people missing out on models they want because they don’t have the same mindset!
A lot of the design of models now IMHO are just way overly detailed, and not in a good way, in an obnoxious way.
I’d have to disagree there for the most part. I’m a big fan of the designs and I think you can very easily pick and choose the parts to paint and ignore and still get great results.
The biggest issue with these miniatures are the horse's head. It's way to small and does not scale correctly to the body. 0/10 trash
Can’t say I agree at all but fair enough!
