This is my product review on the Bluebird Toys Thomas Miniature Play-set By ERTL. This is an extremely rare box that contains a very rare play-set. Bluebird toys was a toy company that was making toys for ERTL and Mattel in the early 90's. They were responsible for the Polly Pocket that was a global phenomenon in the early 90's. By the mid to late 90's the company was in trouble and Mattel came to the rescue by purchasing the company and protecting their investments. Bluebird Toys released some pretty amazing Thomas Miniature sets through the years. A few of these Thomas sets were small pack up sets that allowed the young engineer to pack up with ease. The set that we are reviewing today is one of the bigger sets that were released, and is considered rare among collectors today. I would have to say that this is one of the most interesting sets in the Thomas genre. The parts and pieces in this sets are extremely small and easy to lose. All in all, I would recommend this set to collectors of Thomas, However, if you have small kids that you intend to play with this set, I wouldn't recommend it. i remember this playset fondly as a kid and took it everywhere with me. sadly I've lost it and all the parts a long time ago :'(
For those who never tried this, the trains work on Wooden Railway track. No joke, they fit in the grooves of the track!
I had this when I was a child, bought from Woolworths. Loved this but naturally as a child, things went missing. Might have to buy another to add to the collection. Always wanted a Thomas Hornby as well as other items. What a blast of Nostalgia!!

how unbelievably tiny...very impresive to look at and the metal wheels underneath work perfectly well. guess the potential hazards of miniature toys is the only drawback, that and the fact that bluebird never continued with this line after mattel took creativity's driving seat. don't know all that much so great to hear all the extra interesting facts - you definitely have a great voice for narration / review style videos. great stuff! :)

I use to love to play with this toy set. I remember when I got it in May 1998 after I saw the ad for this on TV, and I thought it was a cool set.

I bought this set at a yard sale when I was little for about 2$ it only came with the Thomas, I wish I still had it it this video reminded me of my childhood
God i miss this set! I want it back! ugh! I used to have James with this set too, tender and all! I don't know how I got James, but it wasn't part of the set. When I found him, his build was very similar and his "wheels" fit on the rails. I always wondered why he seems so much smaller than Perc and Thomas though
I had one of the small folding sets. It came with Thomas, one cargo trolly, and the steam dozer

I can confirm that other bluebird sets exist. I never had any but I remember clear as day that there were some smaller loop tracks on card bubbles at my nearest Target.
The Mini Layout looks so colorful
I had one of these sets (big Thomas fan) and recently I started collecting classic Polly Pockets very seriously. It's really lovely to see them getting a bit of attention. I absolutely despise the new Polly Pockets because they're basically Barbie clones. I have no problem with Barbie, but why does every single girl's toy have to copy her? These little things were genuinely unique and installed in me a deep love of all things miniature. I mourn their passing.

oh this is great and so cool ;-) i still hope there are enough people to bring back bluebird toys! i loved the disney tiny collection and still look for it secondhand... nothing compares to this detailed and tiny playsets, i also think it would start to make children play more like we used to in the 80ies / 90ies!

Wow! I knew it would be tiny but this is amazing! I bet a lot of pieces ended up in vacuum cleaners. The amount of detail for the size is very impressive too.

I saw some ertl minis at library. It was a paper face Thomas and paper face James with a double truck along with other ertls and old wooden items.

I know. If I can remember, I think I had a Thomas one but I don't know where it is.
I'm still debating that. I have never gone this long without an upload. It's been a week. And with the success of my last review nearly at 1700 views, I think I better get it out soon! hopefully by tonight or tomorrow I will have something to feast on. It won't be much, but at least I can get something out so everyone can enjoy while I am working on some other projects!

It sure is an interesting set... I still can't believe how small those parts were... I know I didn't go into details about the flaws in this set. I would have to say it was very difficult for me to move the parts and pcs.. My hands were just too big! This is really only catered to small children. Thanks for the comments!

I got this second hand only came with Thomas (minus his funnel) plus one coach I think no idea what happened to it but I want this player again because it was alot of fun :3

The Thomas from 00:00-00:35, what brand is that? I remember having those once when I was in Kindergarten. I had a Thomas, Toby, Percy, Annie, Clarabelle, Henrietta and two Troublesome Trucks that are like that Thomas. I don't know if I still have them or not, but are you planning on talking about them?

i have this beautiful set its just missing the loads and the hook from the dock crane
There are to more sets of this line of toy (not expansions for this toy) - slightly smaller scale. I remember having both a Tomas and James sets that folded up to be portable. I Have know Idea what happened to them but I think they ended up in the bin after I lost most of the parts. :(

Something I think you’ll find interesting is that polly pocket was so successful that there a was another toy line made targeted at boys called mighty max. Trendingmasters even got in on the tiny toy craze and made a line of Godzilla themed play sets called Godzilla micro battle play sets
I really don't have a problem with this item. I did mention it is a choking hazard.
