As a lefty, it was nice to see someone else (Nicole) that writes the way I do. I also turn my paper 90 degrees and write sideways or towards myself.

I’m a lefty and I’ve been working on my brush calligraphy for about a year now (your worksheets and videos have helped me along in my journey tremendously), and I’m thinking of ‘graduating’ to pointed pens pretty soon so I can expand my tool-kit, as it were. I love fountain pens and brush pens so merging the two seems to have the potential to be the best of both worlds, but the potential adjustments I’ll have to make gets me nervous, I know that pointed pens probably work a little differently in comparison to brush pens ^^’. But still, I’m going to try and give it a go. The ability to write in copperplate with a pointed pen has always been such a cool idea to me, and I’m excited to see myself getting the hang of it, in due time.
As for tips for other lefties, just- start. I know it’s daunting, I know it takes adjustments. But just start. As soon as you can get your hands on a good brush pen, start on your basic stroke drills, those are integral to building your alphabet. And as far as the actual strokes go? The hardest thing for me for a while (and still can be difficult) is getting those thin up strokes, since ‘lightly pushing’ a pen isn’t exactly conducive to a thin stroke. But just keep practicing, the muscle memory will get better with time. Don’t get discouraged, we lefties can letter just as good as any righty. Even if it takes us a bit longer to get the hang of things and work around what doesn’t work for us. You can do it, I promise

I just want to take a moment to say how smart Nicole was using a laser beam to keep her lines even when doing bulk items (invites, envelope addresses, place cards). I’m a newbie to lettering and never thought of doing that!

Thank you! Nicole's tips were the best for me. I just tried writing "down" a page, turned at 90 degrees. The letters turned out almost as nice as my (very) practiced lettering, which I have always had to write from bottom-of-page to top-of-page to avoid smudging. I'll be practicing this way from now on. If some of you want to try gothic or blackletters, try puting your paper with your base line horizontaly, that allow you to get the angle necessary for the nib

I’m a lefty looking at trying hand lettering. I’m an illustrator and there’s times it would be good to know. So glad this popped up in my feed. I’m a lefty and I just wanted to try it so I did. I guess, I’m old enough not to need much advice how to do things with my left hand, I just automatically adjust for myself. I am happy to see it was considered though. I just started practicing and got the book to help. I haven’t found all the best pens for me yet. I’m always interested in new suggestions for pens. Thanks for thinking of us lefties. Also, I did like the idea of putting a paper under my hand to help avoid smudging. Even us oldies can learn new tricks. I have to say, letting it dry first is very hard to do. I get too impatient to keep going. 😊

I'm a lefty who has done calligraphy for 30 years, but I'm trying the brush letters for the first time and seeing that there's quite a difference in how the tip of the pen is dragged differently when using your right hand compared to my left. I don't write with a "hook" or other unusual coping strategies with regular writing or chisel-nib calligraphy. Thanks for the tips!

I am both, ambidextrous. I use both hands for everything. Whichever is most convenient, lol
I write and eat primarily with my left. When I use my left hand, it’s in a right-handed way.
The key is as the first “guest” noted: angle the paper steeply. My paper is at a 90-degree angle (sideways). No smudges. No hooked hand. No back-slant that’s so prevalent in lefty handwriting.

Im a lefty. I dont really have luxurious tools in calligraphy but just color pencils. I started using these when i realized you can do thick downstrokes by giving it pressure.

I’m a lefty but a righty as well. But I can only write eat and draw with my left hand. I bowl and throw with my right hand. I am confused and dyslexic.
Im a lefty....a bit hard bc when lettering and the ink is still wet..the ink will stick to your side and the ink will smudge in short my art is destroyed ....i rotate my paper if writing bc its comfortable and much easier....and i think this video really help me❤
