  • 'Aftersun' writer/director Charlotte Wells & star Paul Mescal sit down with Brief Take during the Toronto International Film Festival 2022 to talk about why men should be opening up more about their mental health, the audience reactions to the movie, how Paul felt doing that pivotal dancing scene (and also dancing in 'Carmen'), and, for the first time ever, Paul reveals which scene was the most difficult for him to film.

A brilliant film, but it must be seen twice to truly appreciate its heartbreaking beauty. It is simply devastating.

This. I appreciated it a lot the first time, after the second I was stunned. Broken.

This film has meant a lot to me, as I’ve been experiencing the loss of a loved one to suicide as well (though hypothetical in the film, it is still a strong suggestion which can be read as an implicit topic weaving the narrative). The view of loving as seeking to know but not ever expecting to be able to know has been a balm in my process of healing. I hope to see this film at least once more, soon.
Thanks to all of you, all the way from southern Brazil 🎬💐

There was no clear answer as to HOW he died, suicide is a possibility not a certainty

Nailed it when Charlotte says " I think for me its about feeling" over the arch of the whole so to speak... Loved the way this movie keeps you guessing and exploring every single person.. Well done.... Really nice in 2023....

It's a little pathetic that the script made sophy gay after kissing a boy and watching heterosexual couples... Plus, having a baby while with a woman? Come on... Gay narcisistic moments of cinema!

it's actually a great way to depict how her dad's personality and relationship with her molded her sexuality. Aside from that, it's crazy that your only comment about such a great film is just that. Take a nap.
