Just came back from my 3 hour session, did well, foot doesn't hurt anymore. I stretched, showered and now I'm watching this 35min episode while eating, thx for rounding off this perfect and sunny saturday!
YOU ARE THE VANCOUVER CARPENTER! I was trying to see if you had a brother or something, thanks for the videos. You helped me jump to the hawk and trowel aaand slappies! Please keep up the great work.
This is a great video! I love how ben is always so honest and shares his feelings and every detail about the products. Probably the only channel I can trust when it comes to skateboarding products.
Dude I gotta say, you're skating better than ever in this video, like the Achilles isn't an issue whatsoever. And that dark wood grain on the anti hero is beautiful. I just had a Grant Taylor 8.5 and seeing this makes me want another.
honestly. i had a session out when it was raining for a solid hour and they barely slowed down after, i cleaned them the next day and they're like brand new again. I've never had bearings that survived the rain like quantums have
6:30 Its been so long since I’ve ridden ventures I had forgotten about the hardware location. As soon as you mentioned it I had a flash of PTSD of trying to take them on and off a deck lol
My brother and I rode ventures pretty exclusively for yeeeears. We always just used a wrench on the nuts. We didnt even own skate tool dont think til we were older hah
Good to see you killing it! Also if you're looking to make mob stick better I def recommend snipping off a corner and using it to sand down the edges of the top ply before applying (mainly around the nose/tail/pockets). I learned this as a way to stop mob from peeling during east coast winters but it works well in any climate 👍
I bet on the Venture Highs With that AH deck if you measure the tail and nose they are longer than the board you were skating with venture lows/ I've realized that comes into play with truck heights the tail length has to be longer for a taller truck. also the steepness is a factor as well for the angle it has and the angle it will create with the tail to the ground I measure both angles. my sweetspot is a 36 degree angle over all. and tail like a 19 to 21 degree angle
as a freestyler, I can tell you that spacers are a essential to keep the bearings alive. Because in railstand (primo) there is too much pressure on the bearing without that spacer
It would be the exact same with or without spacers. The inside cylinder of the bearing ( one that the axle goes through) protrudes out slightly from the shield. Spacers just rest on that. Unless I’m missing something I’m pretty sure it’s the same either way.
Tip to anyone gripping a board: use the paper from the bottom of the griptape, put that paper on top of the griptape when pressing down to get air bubbles out. Now you wont scratch up your hands lol
Im 45 years old and really still prefer 14wb with thunder trucks. Around 31.6 length I skate 8" or 8.125 decks. Took a bit to figure out what works best when I started skateboarding again last year
I was stoked on that new Anti Hero 14”wb and picked one up for myself. I ride venture 5.6 also, my only concern for that deck on ventures is the short tail (6.5”), I’ve found that longer tails work best (like the primitive 8.25 shape)
ever try the April 8.25" ? I ask because I like the April 8.25" and I think the Primitive 8.25" is the exact same mold from BBS, but not 100% sure. It would be nice to know so I can find more of that shape in stock.
Great video, favourite so far. Just a pleasure to watch. Appreciate your effort in making these. I ride the 8.75 version as I’m a heavier skater, but loved your observations and set up. Many thanks.
Good shit today Ben, as expected. I know you may not recall specific people in the comments but I still have yet to actually skate. I bought a Canada skate shop blank out of one of the very first few batches and I spoke to you ig. I have RA and I've found some more problems my right hip is totally shot, ruined done. So I'm trying to fix it at the moment. What I want to say is your rehab and ability to skate after that injury gives me hope man.
22:26 you stomped that one i could tell you were liking this 14" wb at first touch. XD I may have to keep my eye out for 8.25x31.5 decks. Last short board i rode was a 8.13x31 Rick howard semi pro deck sum 10 years ago but that thing BLASTED fs shoves i figure it was the shorter WB before i stepped up to 8.38x32 decks. Only trucks i currently have at that size are 144 mindy hollows. Or old 139 stage X hangers i could put on the 144 plates or some old 9 plates that will probably crack/snap a pin in its lifetime. BC thats just what they do. Ive been liking the red/big balls 6 ball bearings lately since i mostly ride parks they keep speed and are really good for transition not sure how well theyll hold up.
damn bro, i can listen to you talk about skating for hours or watch you skate, love it! you are a great inspiration to me to keep skating forever. I dream of having a spot behind my house like yours, where I can skate every damn day. keep up the good work homie!👊🏽
I too have noticed it’s hard to avoid getting a crease when gripping with Mob but I think I have it figured out now. Patting it in the middle helps when first applying the griptape
this was a great video, I'd love to see something about board selection with this level of board nerdiness 😅 I tend to buy Almost since they have good options, I can get steep concave, steep nose/tail and twin tail @ 8 inches consistently but would be interested in knowing what the other big board companies do for features and sizing. Don't know how many freemium boards you have sitting around, but it's an idea. Thanks for putting out the great content, skating 20 years+ but only really just started watching skate youtubers and you're definitely one of the favorites!

@21:10 Actually, there are like dozens of different types of aluminums out there. They differ mostly in softness and strength. I'd say between brands you will find significant differences, even when none of them will be like Wallmart grade crap that breaks when it comes to the skate A brands.
I just lost my board some theft took it from me, I have the exact same size 8.25 Girl board 5.6 venture trucks and 55mm Spitfire classics i really love that set up Its my diamond i spend my savings out off it its really my dream set up i wish i get it back or get my hands to that exact setup

Hey @Ben Degros! I discovered your channel and videos a few weeks ago when I first got 'back' into skating after a 10-ish years break. I've never been good at it, but I want to give it another try. My main issue right now is picking up the parts that I'd qualify as 'bang for the buck'. I'm 33, pretty much out of shape for a sport as physically taxing like skate, and have a pretty tight budget. I was wondering if you have already made a video like that, or if you could please do one, because to be honest, I'm not sure the parts I have in mind would be adequate if I'm back to square one, having to relearn pretty much everything and all. Love your content btw! 👍
And here all this time I thought you just had a very serious "addiction" to buying skateboards & parts 😂💕👍 PS- dannng Ben u were pushin urself haaard there at the end! Careful not fatigue injure yourself 😁👍
If you're used to skating Thunders, you're probably not going to like switching to Venture, at least right away (unless you prefer tighter feeling, stable trucks)
I have been dreaming of the kaders ever since I saw a screenshot leak on the slapmag venture thread… this video is perfect. I also recently bought the 14” wb misregistered eagle deck. It’s perfect! The rest of your 8.25 setup is identical outside of the kaders… hopefully a shop near me will have em in stock
had a set of ventures 5.8, swapped the bushings for bones mid whites. Loved the truck but changing boards was always such a pain due to the whole skatetool barely reaching. Due to this i wont bother again
