Great to see you out on the trail again. Glad to hear your wife is doing better too. That is great news! Cool colorful salamander. Interesting that there is water availability constraints on this trail it seems like there should be plenty in such a green environment. Wow, you are cranking out the miles! Great views from your dinner location. So awesome and beautiful. Well done on your hike. Have a great day.

Thanks Steve. I really appreciate it. We’ve been having a severe drought since early July so many of the water sources are dry. Even some you would think should still be running. Or ally we get rain all the time. Last year, I got rained on in every trip. Like downpours.

I think the best part of clockwise is overnight with only 7(ish) miles to Masten. Plenty of time to hang around till late afternoon. The best part about counterclockwise is stopping after 7(ish) miles and staying for 2 days!

Good to hear your wife has a positive prognosis and is on the mend. I love Loggers Path. Have done it twice. Both times counter-clockwise, camping at the big stream and then Rock Run. I think Rock Run is stunning.

Thank you! We appreciate it! I agree Rock run is really neat. Pleasant View creek (I think that’s what it’s called, about half way) has amazing camp sites.

28 miles after 2.5 months off?! Dan you're a beast. I'm glad to hear that your wife is doing better! 🙏 Also good to see the beard coming back in 👍 haha

Thanks! It was a long road but she’s getting better and better. I figured the beard needed to come back. The funny thing is the next two series of videos are two trips I did before her surgery so I don’t have the beard. Lol. A little out of order but I wanted to give an update.

I’m glad your wife is doing ok.
I’ve done this loop before. I really liked it. Saw a bunch of rattlesnakes out there.
    28 mile day hike…… impressive

Thanks Jason! She’s getting stronger every day. It’s a very popular trail in PA and for good reason. I didn’t see a single rattlesnake this time. Ow that I think about it I didn’t really see any wild life really. I wonder if it was the drought.

You said at the end of this video that you are turning 50. Congratulations man! You are hiking some serious miles. I'm 45 and just started backpacking and it's nice to see you doing so well. I also live around the Pittsburgh area and it's nice to see the trail I can hike.

Yep. The big 5 0. Lol. PA has a ton of trails to hike. I’m surprised about how numerous they are compared to other states. I still have quite a bit of trails on PA to hit.

I hiked that trail for my first backpacking trip during this past 4th of July weekend. It was pretty dry back then. I was able to also cross the stream over the rocks without going into it at all. Glad to see you back out there. Happy hiking!

Thanks Blake! It was still pretty dry when I did this trip. I did this trail in the spring before and that stream gets waist deep. Kind of glad it was low this time around but overall I was still able to get adequate water throughout. This trail is a great trail. Not too hard and not too long.

I love this trail! It is one of PAs best. It is definitely popular. I see more people each time I do this trail than any other.

I hit OLP about 2 months ago. And I only had 2 real water sources. It was tough but still beautiful and fulfilling as always. It's the driest If seen the trail in years. Great video as always btw.

Thanks! I agree. This year has been very dry. I think a close second would be 2020. I’m leaving soon for another trip and at least there was and will be rain for a few straight days before I hit the trail. Hopefully it will help.

@@backpackingadventures4813 ya rock run and pleasant steam were the only two real sources of had. Total I had 4 sources all trail I used. But still beautiful as always. And a little more of a challenge is always appreciated. Enjoy your next trip.

Hey Dan, first off really glad to hear that your wife is doing well!
I have been off the trail lately also just with life and everything. I have a 70 mile in 3 day hike coming up and idk if I will be ready. I might try to do OLP as a day hike like this to see where I'm at.
We should try to link up for a trip this fall.

    • @backpackingadventures4813
      @backpackingadventures4813  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks Derek! She’s getting stronger every day. I just did the Quehanna Trail last week in three days. Loved it. The OLP is a great trail but it is a tough little trail. It will definitely provide you with a gauge on where you are at. But, if you haven’t hiked in for a while you may want to try a smaller length out of the gate. I’m game for a fall trip with you! 👍
