It's a while since I heard "Motorpsycho Nightmare" but I still remember the sinister threat of the line:
"Rita mumbled something about her mother on the hill"
It's up there with "and the riot squad ............ they're restless" from Desolation Row for understated drama.
    This kid's got a future :)

Let him hear “isis” from the live 75 bootleg series, and “tonight I’ll be staying with you”, and “tangled up in blue” from that same album....and a whole host of songs off “Nashville skyline”, like “I threw it all away”, ect, ect...or, the higher, “dive-bombing the notes” voice on “like a rolling stone” from the bootleg series 4, from the 66 tour......Bob has so many voices, it’s just when ppl say he can’t sing, there’s just so many different voices in the last 62 years.....his first/debut album too, with the squeaky, honkin’ voice, like “gospel plow”, “in my time of dying”, “you’re no good”, or “house of the rising sun”, or “freight train blues” where he holds that one note for , like, nearly a minute...anyway, Dylan had as many voices as he did different looks.

Great job guys... enjoyed the video immensely, nice to see some open minds... i also just finished the book you are reading and totally enjoyed it... i'm a dylan fan from the beginning and liked how the author tied many of dylan's songs to a lyrical/poetic jumping off place of what was actually going on in his life.. he was out on the edge and ahead of a lot of what was going on in the 'alternative' culture of the time.. true artist living the life and getting the rewards and paying the price as he went along... as he describes himself now 'first among equals, second to none'... after 60 years of hearing him , i now find his voice soothing and comforting...

John Lennon said “it’s not how Dylan sings,,it how he sings it-- meaning, phrasing, delivery, he’s unmatched, he single handedly invented rap-- and if one doesn’t think he can sing, listen to the live 75 bootleg series

Dylan sings with microinflections and the phrasing of a beat poet. Look up the poet Lawrence Ferlingehtti on youtube and listen to his readings. Might help some.
Also Dylans pitching is unique. He sings in microtones. Usually what happens is folks begin to be drawn to his voice after listening for awhile. I think it takes time for our ears to catch up with him.
Thing with Dylan is the words. He has the ability to strike provoking thoughts that we never really knew existed. Its a very interesting effect that his songs are complex in a way that doesnt just express one emotion/feeling at a time but is able to present several within a song.
Dylan's greatest gift is being able be the best commentator in song concerning the human condition.

Love song: IF YOU SEE HER
Lyrical/ poetry: NOT DARK YET or
VISIONS OF JOHANNA - would be my call for the other two categories.
Thumbs up - thanks for the Dylan.

Good choices for the categories, but of course, mine would be a little different. For scorched earth, the song that immediately came to mind was "Idiot Wind", folk rock would be "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues", for lyrical/poetry I would go with "Desolation Row", humor would be "Bob Dylan's 115th Dream", and for love song, as you said, there's such a plethora to choose from, but I would go with , "Shelter From the Storm". But, tbh, there are no wrong answers...
